Chapter 629 Tearing Off the Mask

"Understood," Jiang Yan replied, her voice choked with sobs.

Ning Xin, standing beside them, felt a pang of jealousy seeing Jin Lan. She wanted to speak but stopped short as Jin Lan walked into the emergency room without so much as a glance at anyone else. His eyes were fixed solely on Jiang Yan.

Ning Xin looked at Jiang Yan. She clearly had a boyfriend, and Jin Lan was introduced to her by Ye Wan. Yet, Jin Lan had chosen Jiang Yan. He probably didn't even recognize her now, just like moments ago, he had completely overlooked her presence, his world revolving around Jiang Yan.

"Jiang Yan, are you together with Jin Lan now? What about your boyfriend?" Ning Xin asked, her feelings of imbalance surfacing.

She felt Jin Lan chose Jiang Yan simply because of her family's wealth. But now, her family was bankrupt, her father was in prison, and her situation was worse than Ning Xin's.

Jiang Yan wasn't in the mood to discuss it. She didn't want to talk to Ning Xin either. When the ambulance arrived, Ning Xin had barged her way in.

"Right now, all I want to know is how Ye Wan is. I don't want to talk about anything else," Jiang Yan replied irritably, her gaze returning to the emergency room.

Ning Xin was taken aback by her retort, her heart suddenly filled with anger. Her expression soured. "I was just concerned about you. Jin Lan is your boyfriend's uncle. Aren't you playing with the feelings of these two relatives?"

"Are you done? If you're done, then be quiet. Ning Xin, you and I can no longer be friends, so please be considerate and stay away from me!" Jiang Yan felt anger welling up inside her, coupled with her worry for Ye Wan. Her already limited patience had completely vanished.

Ning Xin's face also darkened. She let out a cold laugh and said, "Just a bitch who only knows how to play with men's feelings, and even worse, playing with the feelings of a nephew and his uncle. Do you think you're anything good? Someone as disgusting as you, I wouldn't bother with even if you begged me. I'm here to wait for Ye Wan's situation! What business is it of yours?"

The words from Ning Xin made Jiang Yan tremble. The relationships she had with Chu Yu and Jin Lan were her greatest fears. Regardless of the reasons, the outcome was something that would be incomprehensible and unacceptable to everyone.

Ning Xin finished contemptuously and turned to sit elsewhere, making it clear she wasn't leaving. She took out her phone and started playing games. Jiang Yan stared at her, trembling, barely maintaining her composure with immense self-control.

Ning Xin sneered, as if Jiang Yan were some sort of contaminant. Anyway, Jiang Yan's family was bankrupt now, and her father was going to prison. Ning Xin had nothing to fear from her.

Ye Wan was wheeled out. Ning Xin immediately put on a demure and sweet expression and stepped forward, asking solicitously, "Doctor Jin, how is Ye Wan?"

Jin Lan finally noticed Ning Xin and said, "It's nothing serious. She just needs to rest well, and she'll be able to be discharged."

He didn't realize that Ye Wan had fainted because she was too heartbroken and had suffered a significant emotional shock.

Jiang Yan found Ning Xin's demeanor utterly repulsive. She remained silent, quietly staying by Ye Wan's bedside. Ye Wan had woken up by now, but her eyes lacked any spark, appearing like a lifeless doll, which was heart-wrenching.

Jin Lan sensed that Jiang Yan was unhappy. He glanced at her, noticing her somber expression and the redness around her eyes. Mistaking it for concern for Ye Wan, he didn't think much of it.
