Wei Yumeng found the words somewhat amusing and difficult to comprehend.
"Why can't he divorce me? Isn't that a normal thing?"
Zhan Mohan now believed the child in her belly wasn't his, and coupled with his recent good interactions with Jiang Siyu, his departure back then was due to Jiang Siyu leaving, not Zhan Mohan. This meant that if that incident hadn't occurred, Zhan Mohan wouldn't have parted ways with Jiang Siyu.
It seemed there was still lingering affection.
"I don't mean it that way. I just feel that he had doubted whether the child in your womb was his back then, yet he never intended to let you go. He should have been able to foresee this outcome and have been mentally prepared for it."
People are often like this; when immersed in a situation, they can see less clearly. It is the bystanders who can better understand the underlying principles.
Upon hearing this, Wei Yumeng felt that Xin Ran was merely trying to comfort her, and she offered a bitter smile.
"How do you think a man would accept a woman carrying another man's child? A normal man would find it hard to accept, let alone someone like Zhan Mohan, who is so concerned about his reputation and comes from a family background like his."
Xin Ran, deep down, did not want Wei Yumeng and Zhan Mohan to reconcile. Who would want to see the person they liked with another man? Even if he couldn't have Wei Yumeng, he would not want to witness such a scene.
Wei Yumeng also didn't wish to dwell on these matters. They were, after all, personal issues, and she and Xin Ran were no longer as close as they used to be, able to speak so freely.
She had rested enough and it wasn't appropriate to stay with Xin Ran for too long.
"You should go and get busy too, and I need to head back."
"I'll drive you. You're not in a very convenient state right now."
"It's fine, I can take a taxi."
Wei Yumeng decisively refused his offer to drive her.
Xin Ran knew Wei Yumeng's temperament and didn't push the matter further.
The two walked out of the coffee shop together, and Xin Ran was still reminding her.
"Be careful on your way back."
As they reached the entrance, Wei Yumeng bumped into Zheng Yuanyuan.
Zheng Yuanyuan glared at her with eyes like surging waves, as if she could devour Wei Yumeng.
The two exchanged glances for a brief few seconds, after which Zheng Yuanyuan's anger erupted. Disregarding the fact that they were in a public place, she began to curse at Wei Yumeng.
"Wei Yumeng, aren't you ashamed of yourself!"
Xin Ran immediately became angry. "Zheng Yuanyuan, what nonsense are you spouting? This is a public place, mind your image."
"My fiancé is about to be snatched away by someone else, and you expect me to have an image!"
Zheng Yuanyuan spewed curses, losing all semblance of a wealthy young lady.
Xin Ran explained, "We just happened to run into each other."
Zheng Yuanyuan clearly didn't believe him. She sneered, "Yes, you just happened to meet, and then you had a drink together to 'catch up,' right? Also, Wei Yumeng, you're pregnant with Zhan Mohan's child, how dare you try to seduce Xin Ran."
Previously, they had all assumed that the child Wei Yumeng was carrying was Xin Ran's. However, Xin Ran had personally admitted to his mother last time that the biological father of the child was Zhan Mohan.
Moreover, nothing had happened between them; it was all part of his scheme.
Wei Yumeng remained composed and unyielding, showing no fear when facing Zheng Yuanyuan. A clear conscience fears no accusation.
"Miss Zheng, please watch your words. Xin Ran and I did indeed meet on the road. We weren't 'catching up,' and there's no 'seduction' as you claim!"
Zheng Yuanyuan snorted coldly, "Who would believe you!"
Wei Yumeng shrugged and chuckled, "Miss Zheng, you can consider this: if I really intended to seduce Xin Ran, why would I choose a public place?"
Anyone who genuinely intended to seduce someone wouldn't pick a public venue; it would be too foolish.
But Zheng Yuanyuan was not about to let Wei Yumeng off so easily. Every time she saw Wei Yumeng, she felt that Wei Yumeng was trying to snatch Xin Ran away from her. Furthermore, the fact that Xin Ran still hadn't forgotten about Wei Yumeng made her even more sensitive about their relationship.
"Who knows what you're thinking? You're capable of anything, Wei Yumeng. I warn you, you'd better stay away from my fiancé!"
If Zheng Yuanyuan hadn't been restraining herself, she would have slapped Wei Yumeng across the face.
"I apologize, but I truly have no interest in your fiancé."
Wei Yumeng could understand a woman's insecurity in a relationship, but Zheng Yuanyuan's nonsensical tantrum was becoming unbearable.
Zheng Yuanyuan's words were like venom, each one a dagger to the heart.
"You, I can tell at a glance, are not a respectable person. No wonder the Zhan family disliked you, and no wonder your mother-in-law didn't want you as her daughter-in-law. Your character is indeed improper."
"Zheng Yuanyuan, if you continue to be unreasonable like this, then leave immediately!"
Xin Ran, standing by, could no longer stand it. Zheng Yuanyuan was usually prone to unreasonable outbursts and was very domineering. If she didn't get her way, she would throw a huge scene, and she often complained to their mother.
Every moment spent with her made him feel incredibly suffocated, especially her behavior today, which disgusted him even more.
Zheng Yuanyuan looked at Xin Ran in surprise. "You're actually helping her? Xin Ran, what's wrong with you? You're my fiancé, how can you help an outsider? You've disappointed me so much!"
With that, Zheng Yuanyuan turned and ran out in anger.
Xin Ran's mood was also severely affected. Wei Yumeng said to him,
"You should go after her and check. What if something really happens?"
"I'm not going. She's always like this; you get used to it."
It wasn't the first time this had happened, and if he had to appease her every time, it would be too exhausting.
"You should still go and see."
Xin Ran pondered for a moment and decided to go.
"Alright then. You be careful on your way. She speaks like that, don't take it to heart."
"Mhm."
After they parted ways, Wei Yumeng looked at the resume in her hand. After some hesitation, she hailed a taxi by the roadside.
"Driver, Zhan Corporation."
Upon arriving at Zhan Corporation, as she was about to take the elevator up, she was stopped by the receptionist.
"I'm sorry, President Zhan has instructed that he will not see anyone today."
Wei Yumeng frowned. Was this person doing this intentionally? But the more he didn't want to see her, the more she felt the need to find him and clarify things.
A grown man in his thirties resorting to such tactics, didn't he find it childish?
"Please go in and announce me. Tell him I have something very important to see him about."
The receptionist shook her head awkwardly. "I'm sorry, President Zhan said that even if the sky were to fall, he wouldn't see anyone right now. So, you should please leave."
