Chapter 383 Knowing When to Retreat

Fang Xun felt it was unlikely. Given Young Master Zhan’s personality, he wouldn't be able to let go of his pride.

This matter had become somewhat tricky.

“So what do we do now?”

Zhan Mohan shot Fang Xun another glare. “Can’t you think of a solution?”

Fang Xun flinched, looking wronged.

He wanted to help Young Master Zhan find a solution, but he simply couldn’t. The current situation between them was rather difficult to manage.

Seeing Fang Xun’s unreliable demeanor, Zhan Mohan sighed, “Forget it. You keep an eye on things over there. If she can’t find a job, she’ll naturally come back.”

He didn’t believe she could manage without money, especially with a child on the way. She would need money for childbirth and expenses.

Xin Ran had Zheng Yuanyuan. Was she expecting to rely on her child to secure her position? Zheng Yuanyuan’s family background was far more affluent than hers.

Fang Xun dared not say more. “Okay.”

After a night’s rest, Wei Yumeng prepared to continue her job search, but it remained unsatisfactory.

She was increasingly suspecting that someone was deliberately obstructing her, intentionally preventing her from finding employment. This person, she believed, was likely Zhan Mohan.

Last time, he had refused her resignation. This time, he had agreed so easily. Didn’t that seem suspicious?

The thought of being manipulated fueled her anger, making her wish she could confront Zhan Mohan immediately and demand an explanation.

“Yumeng…”

Someone gently patted her shoulder from behind.

She instinctively turned around and saw Xin Ran. It was somewhat unexpected to run into him here.

“What are you doing here?”

Xin Ran pointed to the vicinity. “I’m in the area for a meeting. Our company just took on a new project.”

He then noticed some documents in Wei Yumeng’s arms and asked,

“What are these for…”

Wei Yumeng offered a wry smile. “Job hunting.”

Unfortunately, it was all in vain.

Surprise flickered in Xin Ran’s eyes. “Did you resign from Zhan Corporation because of the child you’re carrying?”

Wei Yumeng stammered slightly, but since Xin Ran had asked, and he was aware of the situation, it was difficult to refuse to answer.

“Something like that.”

Xin Ran glanced at his watch. “I still have a little time. How about we sit down and chat? You don’t seem to be having much luck finding a job. Perhaps I can help.”

Even though they couldn't be lovers, his feelings for Wei Yumeng remained. Seeing her in distress made him even more eager to offer assistance.

Wei Yumeng was feeling dejected. If Zhan Mohan was truly interfering, she might never find a job. But Xin Ran had his own network. If he could help her find employment, it would be a good solution.

She finally nodded in agreement.

“Okay.”

They sat down in a cafe. Xin Ran extended his hand towards her.

“Could I see your resume first?”

“Sure.” Wei Yumeng quickly handed it over.

After reviewing it, Xin Ran was quite satisfied, even somewhat surprised.

“There’s nothing wrong with your resume. Moreover, your previous employment at Zhan Corporation provides a strong advantage. Generally, people who have worked at Zhan Corporation find jobs more easily, as prospective employers will consider their past company’s standing. Why, in your case, are you unable to find work?”

Wei Yumeng remained silent.

After a moment, Xin Ran seemed to have an epiphany. “Is Zhan Mohan sabotaging you behind the scenes? He doesn’t want you to find a job.”

Wei Yumeng lazily lifted her eyes, her voice weak. “Even you can see that. He just doesn’t want me to find work.”

Xin Ran didn’t find this particularly unusual. Zhan Mohan was a dominant person. His actions were always more forceful than others, driven by intense possessiveness.

“However, it's also apparent that he didn’t truly want you to leave. Perhaps your stance was very firm, and coupled with his recent emotional turmoil, he agreed to your resignation out of spite, almost as a form of defiance.”

But based on his understanding of Zhan Mohan, he had likely already planned for contingencies the moment he agreed to Yumeng’s resignation.

Therefore, Yumeng was essentially trapped in Zhan Mohan’s scheme. Escaping it wouldn’t be easy.

Thinking of Jiang Siyu, Wei Yumeng’s mood sank further.

“If I stay there, I’ll only be making myself unhappy. Being in the same company as Jiang Siyu every day, and seeing them so affectionate, would surely break me.”

When you truly love someone, it’s impossible to let go easily. She couldn't let go, couldn't forget, yet she was unwilling to go back.

Xin Ran was not surprised by her thoughts. Wei Yumeng was a rather indecisive person, prone to overthinking and weighing options, lacking a sense of security.

He also didn't entirely approve of them being together. Sweet moments were few and far between; most of the time was spent in torment, for themselves and each other.

“Then you don’t need to keep looking for a job. Go home and wait for news.”

Wei Yumeng looked confused. “What do you mean?”

“I’ll find one for you. I’ll ask a friend to inquire. Since Zhan Mohan doesn’t want you to find a job now, continuing your search is futile.”

Without external help, finding a job at this point was entirely impossible.

Hearing the prospect of a job, Wei Yumeng’s eyes filled with hope.

“Okay. If there are any issues, please let me know in advance.”

As long as she could find a job now, she was willing to do anything.

Xin Ran took out a card from his pocket and pushed it towards Wei Yumeng. She looked up in confusion.

“What is this for?”

“You’re pregnant now, and you’re at odds with Zhan Mohan. This situation will likely last for a while. I know you’re staying at Mu Linjing’s place and still need money. This card doesn't have much on it, but take it. If you need money for anything, it will be convenient.”

“No, thank you.”

Wei Yumeng pushed the card back without hesitation.

Her refusal made Xin Ran feel a bit dejected. He didn't reach for the card.

“Yumeng, this is not the time for you to be stubborn with me.”

“Really, I don’t need it. It’s already very good that you can help me find a job.” She no longer hoped for anything else.

Seeing Wei Yumeng’s persistence, Xin Ran couldn’t insist further. He could only put the card back into his pocket.

“Alright. I’ll notify you if I find anything suitable. Try to get some rest these past couple of days; you look quite worn out. As for Zhan Mohan… Yumeng, you need to seriously consider whether you can continue this relationship.”

“There’s no need to consider. We’re already divorced.”

Mentioning this, a wave of sadness washed over Wei Yumeng’s face.

Hearing this, Xin Ran couldn’t hide his astonishment. He blurted out, “How could he possibly agree to divorce you?”
