Wei Yumeng looked at Walsh, feeling a sense of frustration. She realized that in such a short time, she couldn't possibly have considered every angle of the problem.
She even felt that even with ample time, she might not have achieved such perfection.
What should she do now?
"Let me explain this," a familiar voice suddenly appeared.
Wei Yumeng and Walsh turned their heads and saw a tall, handsome, and gentle man walk in.
Wei Yumeng was surprised. It was Che Lie. Did he have something to do with this project? She had never heard anything about it.
"Mr. Walsh, I apologize for the delay due to some matters. I hope you don't mind."
Walsh, who had been making things difficult for Wei Yumeng, changed his demeanor upon seeing Che Lie. "No problem, no problem. It's good you're here, it's not too late."
Che Lie greeted Walsh and then nodded at Wei Yumeng, acknowledging her presence.
However, the gesture felt distant and unfamiliar, as if they barely knew each other, just casual acquaintances.
Wei Yumeng felt a pang of sadness, but this was not the time to dwell on such feelings.
Che Lie walked to Wei Yumeng's side. "Ms. Wei, please leave the rest to me. I will explain everything to Mr. Walsh."
Wei Yumeng nodded and stepped aside, leaving the entire stage to Che Lie.
Che Lie opened a map. "Mr. Walsh, as you are visiting from abroad, there are some things you may not be aware of. Actually, the original site selection was part of the downtown commercial street. It officially entered a maintenance phase last year. On the surface, it appears to be two separate streets from the downtown commercial street. However, to my knowledge, once the construction is completed there, it will ultimately become part of the downtown commercial street. Therefore, Ms. Wei using that location as an example is entirely reasonable."
After Che Lie's explanation, Walsh nodded. "If that's the case, then I have no issues."
Wei Yumeng breathed a sigh of relief. A situation that had felt almost desperate was resolved by Che Lie with a single explanation.
In reality, she, as a local, should have known this. But when the pressure mounted, her mind had faltered, and she couldn't recall this crucial piece of information.
The subsequent meeting proceeded smoothly, and the initiative returned to Wei Yumeng's hands. Although Walsh occasionally found minor loopholes and pressed for details, Che Lie was always able to skillfully bridge them.
"Alright, it seems that despite your young age, your abilities are quite impressive, much like someone I once knew," Walsh said with a smile.
Wei Yumeng, curious, asked, "May I ask who that person is?"
Walsh did not show any reluctance. "You locals should know him. His name is Zhan Mohan."
Wei Yumeng was slightly taken aback. She couldn't see any similarity in their work styles with Zhan Mohan, and she hadn't expected Walsh to bring him up.
"You are similar in some ways, and different in others. When it comes to work, you both have that drive, but your methods differ slightly. However, it doesn't matter; you are both very capable individuals."
The reason Walsh was sharing so much with Wei Yumeng now was naturally because the day's meeting had confirmed Wei Yumeng's competence.
He also believed that Wei Yumeng could effectively manage the project between them.
"Oh, and Che Lie, please continue to follow up on this project with Ms. Wei. With both of you on board, I am at ease."
Che Lie replied with a gentle smile, "Rest assured, Mr. Walsh. With us in charge, there will be no further complications."
Walsh then left Feng's Group with satisfaction.
Wei Yumeng breathed a sigh of relief as she watched him depart. At that moment, a large hand gently stroked her hair, a warmth that evoked a sense of familiarity and reliance.
"You did very well just now. Thank you for your hard work," Che Lie said to Wei Yumeng with a smile.
Wei Yumeng looked at Che Lie. She had truly thought he intended to pretend they didn't know each other.
"I apologize. In that situation, if I had directly acknowledged our acquaintance, Mr. Walsh might have thought I was simply trying to help you. So, I had to pretend."
He then playfully winked at Wei Yumeng.
Wei Yumeng finally relaxed. "I really thought you were angry with me about that last incident and weren't talking to me."
Che Lie chuckled. "How could that be? Am I that petty? Besides, seeing you happy now is all I could ask for."
Wei Yumeng then remembered. "Right, Che Lie Gege, were you the one in charge of liaising with Catherine on this project? I never heard about it before."
Che Lie shook his head. "Actually, I just took on this project. Before, I heard Mr. Walsh managed it personally."
"It seems you have a good relationship with Mr. Walsh?" Wei Yumeng thought about the affectionate way Walsh looked at Che Lie and deduced that their relationship must be exceptionally good.
"More or less. My parents were old acquaintances of Mr. Walsh, so we've known each other for a long time. I've only recently started working for Mr. Walsh's company, and this is my first time managing a project."
Wei Yumeng found it hard to believe, as Che Lie's proficiency didn't seem like that of a newcomer.
Was this the legendary innate talent?
"Enough about work. Since we've finally met again, shall we go for a meal? We were interrupted last time. I hope it won't happen this time."
Wei Yumeng nodded. "Of course, that sounds great. It's lunchtime anyway."
The two eventually chose a Chinese restaurant located near Feng's Group.
Wei Yumeng never expected that Che Lie would still remember her taste. The entire table was filled with dishes she loved.
Seeing Wei Yumeng in a daze, Che Lie asked with amusement, "What's wrong? Are you that hungry? Didn't Zhan Mohan feed you well?"
Wei Yumeng snapped back to reality. "No, it's just that I didn't expect you, Che Lie Gege, to still remember."
"How could I forget? After all, in one's life, there are always one or two people you can't forget. You are that person for me. Fortunately, we met again, so my remembering these things wasn't in vain."
His words seemed casual, yet they hinted at something, making it difficult for Wei Yumeng to grasp their true meaning.
Wei Yumeng pondered for a moment, then called the waiter over and ordered dishes that Che Lie enjoyed.
Che Lie's eyes twinkled with a deeper smile. "It seems I'm not the only one who remembers."
Wei Yumeng had genuinely thought she had forgotten, but now she realized those memories were still held deep within her heart.
