Wei Yumeng felt she hadn't enjoyed a meal this much in a long time.
She didn't know when it started, but eating had become one of the most ordinary things in her daily life. Yet, this meal today felt incredibly significant.
It was as if she had rediscovered happiness from the past, the carefree joy of her student days, free from any worries.
Perhaps, in this world, only Che Lie could give her that feeling.
Wei Yumeng didn't tell Zhan Mohan about meeting Che Lie. After all, she knew that if Zhan Mohan found out, he wouldn't have enough vinegar to handle his jealousy.
Initially, Wei Yumeng thought it was just an old friend meeting up, nothing major. But she was wrong. She never imagined that her meeting with Che Lie would be secretly photographed by someone with ill intentions.
"Did you guys hear? It turns out Ms. Wei and that..."
Before the employee could finish, she saw Wei Yumeng approaching the company and immediately shut her mouth.
She felt the atmosphere was a bit off, as if everyone was looking at her with strange eyes.
"Good morning, Ms. Wei."
Although they greeted Wei Yumeng as usual, it was clear they were still a little flustered.
Wei Yumeng, with a hint of confusion, arrived at her office and saw a familiar person already there.
"Wu Yi!"
Seeing Wu Yi again, Wei Yumeng couldn't have been happier. If she had to find another assistant, no one would be as easy to get along with as Wu Yi.
Wu Yi looked at Wei Yumeng with equal delight, "Ms. Wei, it's wonderful that Feng's Group is finally back in your hands."
Wei Yumeng felt a bit awkward, "That's not entirely accurate. I'm merely acting in an interim capacity. The company will eventually return to President Feng's control."
Wu Yi didn't seem to care, "Those things aren't important to me. What matters most is that you're back, Ms. Wei."
After chatting, she learned that Zhan Mohan had helped her find Wu Yi. After all, she had been working without an assistant and was struggling to manage everything alone.
Wei Yumeng was overjoyed, her mind already having pushed aside the strange atmosphere from earlier.
But just then, Wu Yi's expression turned worried.
"Actually, Ms. Wei, I don't know if you've seen the news today."
Wei Yumeng blinked, "News? Did something happen?"
Wu Yi sighed, "Yes, it's about you, Ms. Wei."
With that, she took out her phone and opened the news for Wei Yumeng. The headline was a photograph of Wei Yumeng and Che Lie dining at a restaurant, looking quite intimate.
And the comments below were a mix of everything.
"I said it before, that Wei Yumeng is not a good woman at all. She feigned innocence during the Katherine incident, and I knew she wasn't innocent."
"I agree. She has a good man like President Zhan, yet she's flirting with other men. How shameless!"
"Sisters, let's go! One day we'll make this trashy woman Wei Yumeng leave our President Zhan."
Seeing these comments, Wei Yumeng's brow furrowed. She had never expected anyone to capture such a moment, and she and Che Lie had absolutely no relationship.
She didn't want to cause any trouble for Che Lie, nor did she want Zhan Mohan to misunderstand their relationship. But what was she to do now?
Wei Yumeng felt uneasy throughout her workday, partly thinking about how to apologize to Che Lie and partly wishing Zhan Mohan wouldn't believe the news.
But how could she prove anything convincingly now?
Wei Yumeng was still uneasy even as she went home after work. Even her two children looked at her strangely.
"Mommy, my classmates say Mom has changed her mind," Zhan Shiqing said sadly. "Although I like that uncle very much, I like Dad more. Mommy belongs to Dad."
Wei Yumeng felt a little dejected, "Shiqing, you have to believe Mommy. Mommy has no relationship with that uncle. That's just the news making things up; you can't believe it."
"Is that so?"
A cold voice came from behind Wei Yumeng. It was Zhan Mohan, who had just returned.
Zhan Mohan had also seen the news. If Wei Yumeng had told him about that day, he wouldn't have overthought things. But Wei Yumeng hadn't mentioned meeting them, which clearly indicated she didn't want him to know about it.
The more she tried to hide it, the more it seemed like there was something wrong.
Zhan Mohan had been troubled by this all day. He had even deliberately left work early, wanting to clarify things with Wei Yumeng sooner.
"Mohan, I..." Wei Yumeng looked at Zhan Mohan, and finally lowered her head, like a child who had done something wrong.
Seeing the tense atmosphere, Zhan Jinzhi took Zhan Shiqing's hand and led her back to their room, leaving the two adults alone.
"Go on, I'm listening," Zhan Mohan's tone was restrained, as if he were suppressing something about to erupt.
"Mohan, actually, our meeting that day was a coincidence. I never expected Che Lie Gege to be there, and also..."
When Zhan Mohan heard Wei Yumeng call him "Che Lie Gege," his expression darkened by half.
Wei Yumeng noticed this and quickly corrected herself, "I never expected Che Lie to be there either. Feng's Group had just taken on a new project, and the person in charge turned out to be him. So, we just had dinner together."
Zhan Mohan raised an eyebrow slightly, "Is that so?"
"Of course, that's all there is to it. I know we had some history before, but that was a long time ago when we were children. Moreover, I have you now, and my heart won't change."
Wei Yumeng's words were sincere, making Zhan Mohan have to believe her.
However, Zhan Mohan knew that Wei Yumeng might indeed have no relationship with Che Lie. He was just uncomfortable after seeing the news and insisted on hearing it from Wei Yumeng's own lips.
Seeing that Zhan Mohan didn't seem moved by her words, Wei Yumeng, in a rare gesture, hugged his arm and swayed it.
"Mohan, we've been married for so long, you don't still doubt my feelings for you, do you?"
Wei Yumeng looked down, appearing very sad. "How about this: you decide. What do I need to do for you to believe me?"
Zhan Mohan looked at Wei Yumeng and finally let out a light chuckle. In truth, he had never thought Wei Yumeng would fall for another man, partly due to his own confidence.
But believing Wei Yumeng didn't mean he trusted Che Lie; that man was still quite dangerous.
