Chapter 808 She Must Not Let Her Take Everything Away

Zhan Mohan, standing to the side, looked up at Catherine, her reaction surprising him. When had she become so concerned about Wei Yumeng?

After the nurse left, Catherine sat back down beside Song Lijun, her gaze fixed anxiously on the emergency room.

As the red light on the emergency room door dimmed, Zhan Mohan felt a wave of relief. Every minute he couldn't see Wei Yumeng felt like an eternity.

"She's out," Song Lijun said, standing up immediately as the emergency room door opened.

Wei Yumeng was wheeled out by several medical staff, still asleep from the anesthesia.

Inside the ward, Song Lijun pulled up a chair and sat by Wei Yumeng's bedside. At this moment, her worry had overshadowed all other concerns; all she wanted was to see her daughter well.

Catherine followed them in, and her eyes fell upon Song Lijun and Wei Yumeng holding hands. A flicker of malice crossed her face.

She would not let Wei Yumeng take everything from her!

Catherine approached Song Lijun, trying to get her to leave. "Mom, you've been at the emergency room all day. Why don't you go back and rest for a while?"

Song Lijun shook her head. She couldn't rest. It was her fault that Wei Yumeng was in this state. "Yumeng is like this because of me. I have to stay here."

Feng Zhenhua also spoke from the side, "Linlin, if you're tired, you should go home first. Mom and I will stay here for a while."

Their own daughter was lying there; how could they leave as if nothing had happened?

"It's fine, I'll stay here too. Yumeng was injured because of Mom, how can I leave?" Catherine said with veiled sarcasm.

However, everyone's attention was focused on Wei Yumeng's safety, so they didn't dwell on her words.

After sitting for a while, Catherine seemed to have thought of something. She scanned the people in the ward and then got up and walked out.

In the quiet corridor, only the sound of Catherine's high heels echoed, tap, tap, tap.

As she reached the end of the corridor and was about to take out her phone from her bag, a dark figure emerged from nowhere and walked towards her.

She gasped, her legs trembling, ready to scream, when the other person spoke first.

"Catherine."

It was Zhan Mohan.

Upon realizing who it was, Catherine actually wished it had been a ghost. Zhan Mohan was more terrifying than any ghost.

Stepping back, Catherine stammered, "What, what do you want?"

Zhan Mohan stopped about a meter away from Catherine. A beam of light from the window opposite fell on him, intensifying his already strong, sharp aura.

"Where were you this morning?" he asked, his gaze icy as he scrutinized Catherine.

Catherine forced a laugh. "I wasn't anywhere. I didn't have breakfast this morning, so I went out to buy some. If you don't believe me, you can ask my parents."

"Just going out to buy things?" Zhan Mohan's voice was cold, and a hint of ruthlessness entered his eyes.

"What else?" Catherine retorted stubbornly.

Without any evidence, Zhan Mohan couldn't say anything. However, he was certain that Catherine was involved in this matter. Finding proof was only a matter of time.

He walked forward, leaned in slightly, and gave Catherine a sinister smile. Catherine felt as if she were being stared at by a devil, a chill running down her spine.

Zhan Mohan said slowly, "Catherine, Wei Yumeng is someone you cannot touch."

With that, he turned and left, giving Catherine no chance to speak.

Watching his retreating back, Catherine leaned against the wall and let out a breath. Zhan Mohan in anger was no less than a ghost, but even a ghost couldn't make Catherine feel this bone-chilling fear.

When Catherine returned to the ward, only Feng Zhenyuan and Song Lijun were still by the bedside. Zhan Mohan had disappeared.

Meanwhile, in a ward at the end of the corridor, Zhan Mohan stood by the window with Fang Xun.

"Mr. Zhan, I've already inquired outside. People around did indeed see Catherine going out to buy food, but she didn't just go to buy food," Fang Xun said.

Hearing this, a look of disgust flashed across Zhan Mohan's formerly expressionless face. He detested people who schemed behind others' backs.

He glanced at Fang Xun, signaling him to continue.

"After buying food, Catherine met someone."

Zhan Mohan frowned and asked, "Have you found any information on that person?"

Fang Xun shook his head. "There wasn't enough time to investigate."

"I want to see that person's information by tomorrow morning," Zhan Mohan said coldly before turning to leave.

He knew this woman wouldn't tell him the truth. Since she had shown her hand, he couldn't be blamed for what came next.

Once the evidence was found, he would not let Catherine off the hook.

After Fang Xun left, Zhan Mohan stood by the window for a while before returning to the ward. Song Lijun and Feng Zhenhua were still unwilling to leave, despite the late hour.

He walked to the bedside and gently brushed a strand of hair from Wei Yumeng's forehead. Looking at her peaceful face, he felt an inexplicable sense of remorse. It was his failure to protect her.

"Mr. Feng, I'll stay with Yumeng here. You and Mrs. Feng should go back and rest," Zhan Mohan said, seeing that they had been there all afternoon.

Song Lijun still refused to go back, unable to rest easy until she saw Wei Yumeng awake.

Even though the doctor had repeatedly assured her that Wei Yumeng was out of danger, the stone in her heart remained.

Since the couple wouldn't leave, Catherine didn't feel comfortable leaving either and stayed to wait with them.

Wei Yumeng woke up the next morning. The moment she opened her eyes, she saw several dark heads leaning around her bed.

As she tried to move her hand, she discovered that Song Lijun was tightly holding it.

Wei Yumeng's movement was slight, but Song Lijun was still startled awake. Seeing that she was awake, she immediately asked anxiously, "Yumeng, you're awake? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

"I'm fine," Wei Yumeng said, only to realize how hoarse her voice was.

As she frowned, a cup of warm water was handed to her. Wei Yumeng looked up to see Zhan Mohan.

He brought the cup to her lips and said softly, "Here, drink some water. Drink slowly."

Wei Yumeng obediently took small sips. The plain water was tasteless, yet it felt inexplicably sweet as she drank it.

Seeing that she was awake, Catherine squeezed her way over. "Yumeng, how are you feeling? Are you feeling any better?"

"I'm fine," Wei Yumeng smiled.

Glancing at Zhan Mohan, Catherine started her act again. "Yumeng, thank you for yesterday. But it's all my fault. If I hadn't gone out, maybe this wouldn't have happened."

"It's not your fault," Wei Yumeng said. Although she found the doctor's intentions strange, she didn't suspect Catherine.
