Chapter 76: What’s so Special about Elyndra

"What a strange group." A man whispers.

"Yeah, why would they come here?" Another questions.

"Probably looking for a new place to hide is my guess." A woman answers.

The whispers around me felt more like confused people than anything else, people not really understanding anything that’s going on. I brushed off the whispers before getting us back to the path.

That guild hall of Obsidian Covenant couldn’t be much further so we continue to look as we travel the road.

I’m surprised you just brush it off now.

I am pretty positive that we aren’t the first ones to come here, they probably deal with refugees or something. Survivors who got caught outside the city during the wrong times.

So to me it really isn’t that big of a deal to hear some whispers when people used to call me worst names.

I’m not part of the junker life anymore so this isn’t something that I should let trouble me anymore. We’re here to find out about what’s going on.

"R-Roku... I see the guild hall." Lilly speaks up with a bit of a nervous tone.

I turn to face Lilly and she wasn’t kidding, the guild hall was dead ahead. A towering citadel of black stone and alloyed obsidian, fused seamlessly with metal supports and glowing circuitry.

This gothic theme only seems to follow as I notice a bunch of spires that claw out towards the skies. Giant archways that are reinforced by metal ribs, almost like we are about to enter the mouth of a beast.

All the whispers around us tilt more towards the guild itself.

"All I ever see over there are shadows." A woman says with a bit of worry.

"Do hunters really reside within there?" Another woman asks.

The whispers went on and on about the different rumors that circle about the guild and it’s hunters. We didn’t really need to sit around listening to rumors so we made our way to the long staircase that awaits us.

Almost like climbing the steps to a castle until we finally reach the door that’s etched with various symbols of the guild itself.

An obsidian circle split by a vertical sword that seems to be glowing a faint red as I stare for a moment. Creeek. I push the door open as it creeks, alerting everyone inside that we are entering.

"I’d be ready for whatever awaits us inside." I say quietly to Ghost and Lilly.

We don’t know if they’ll be hostile inside or not so it is always better to be on the cautious side of things. I hope we don’t have to fight anyone here since we didn’t come here for a fight.

I took a step inside to be completely overwhelmed by the everything that made the hall so special. It felt as if I just entered a cathedral like chamber, the ceiling was completely clouded by darkness with only a slight glow from these strange crystal orbs.

The floor was a lot like the black marble floors Akina made us except they have some strange glowing runes that seem to form the covenant symbol.

Walls were also etched with all sorts of history, almost like they’ve been tracking everything since the start of the collapse. The hunters sitting at the chairs across the way where also watching us.

It honestly felt like I found the goth kids club for hunters here. Everything was black with light combinations of circuits that you can occasionally see.

The smell in here also seems to be some sort of incense which is odd to think about.

A man steps out from behind the counter ahead of us. "Welcome travelers. Maybe we should take a seat and talk." The man suggests with a small smile on his face.

He is wearing a completely black trench coat, black boots, pants, has long black hair that just barely goes past his shoulders, scars across his face, and piercing yellow eyes.

"Sure, I’m definitely up to talk." I respond while keeping a peaceful tone.

It felt weird being in a place like this with so many potential enemies sitting around us but this was needed. If it is possible to prevent a war... Then I’d like to try my best to do so.

We are fighting to survive in this world all the time, I’d rather not have to fight more hunters. The bloodlust would be so hard to control at that point...

I think killing humans would be a lot of fun personally. Especially when they seek such destructive means.

But the goal isn’t to kill humans, it is to work together to save our world from these damn monsters. Finding out where that damn star went or if it’ll ever come back for another round.

The man lead us over to a table outside the view of the other hunters. "My name is Lucien Veynos, I am the guild master here." He introduces himself with a slight smile across his face.

I stare for a moment as I debate how to respond. "Rokuro is the one sitting across from you, the red head is Lilly, and I’m Ghost." Ghost speaks up without any hesitation in her voice.

"It is nice to meet you all. I can imagine that you’ve come here because of the rumors of war." He says nonchalantly as he leans back.

I didn’t think it would be that obvious but I guess not a lot of people just show up conveniently after rumors like that.

"I’d say that you are pretty spot on." I reply while keeping a calm tone.

His gaze sits on me. "We have no intention of starting a war, Elyndra is the problem at hand here." Lucien speaks with a more serious expression on his face.

"What’s so special about Elyndra? Besides it floating in the sky of course." I ask with a bit of sarcasm afterwards.

"Elyndra has powerful hunters who obtained the rank of S and SS recently. They might be looking to take action against those below them." Lucien answers with a bit of concern.
