Chapter 75: Nyxhaven
A few more hours eventually pass us by as we finally can see the city in the distance. It was unlike any of the other cities I’ve seen before.
The city seems to have a gothic tone to it, massive spires, arches, and even some bridges connecting throughout the various buildings.
It looks huge from the distance with some old tech that trickles down some of the buildings, not like it makes much of a difference. It was clear that the name suits the city way more than expected.
"It definitely looks like a shady kind of city..." Ghost says with a bit of nervousness in her voice.
I look a bit closer as we continue to walk. "It’ll be the best place to find some information on what’s going on." I reply calmly.
Shady or not, this city has some vital information when it comes to this whole war situation. I’d like to know why it’s such a possibility right now when everyone should be working together.
I know that’s kind of dumb to think like that but it’s the truth in my opinion. We are all surviving against the monsters of the world so why should we be fighting each other?
Who cares about all that? They were never nice to you and they never helped you out, so why should you do that for them?
I’m just not a shitty person I guess. That would be the best possible answer I have to that question right now.
Lilly didn’t seem to have much to say about the city and was actually a bit quieter this time around. She asked about the tower while we were walking here but that was about it.
At least we are about to enter the city before the sun goes down which is always a good sign.
"We should probably stay in guard when entering this city, it could hold a lot more danger than the others." I suggest with a cautious tone.
"I’ve got my sword and Lilly is strong as is. I believe we will be okay." Ghost chimes in with some confidence.
The sword made from scrap that I found back at the shop, something I didn’t expect her to still be carrying. It has held up in battle quite well which shocks me a bit but at least she can use it.
Lilly on the other hand relies on her power like me so we both can share that burden at the very least. Would it even be considered a power when she’s a demon?
It didn’t matter since we were about to enter the city. People seem to be wandering the streets, wearing all sorts of ragged clothes with dark colors to each persons outfit.
Not a single soul seems to be wearing vibrant colors here so it is definitely going to be one of the darker cities.
"The guild building would be the best to locate." Ghost advises with a sudden monotone voice.
Maybe I should’ve examined her a bit better before we left the Junkyard again but there’s no helping it right now. She is definitely right about what we need to find.
"Yes, finding the guild would be the best course of action." I agree with her as we begin to walk through the streets.
Most of the people here seem to have their faces covered in one way or another, by gas masks or just cloth face coverings. A bandana perhaps?
All different attire as we got deeper into the city, we seemed to be in the first layer of the Nyxhaven according to the map on the side of the road. "Let’s check the map out so we can find out where to go." I say while leading the way to the board.
It was a map with 3 different layers to the city.
| Nyxhaven Map Layer Guide |
• Currently you are here. | The Veil District |This district is where most of the wealthy reside, as well as big shops and the guild hall of the Obsidian Covenant.
• Below this layer is the underground markets known as | The Obsidian Markets District. |
• Just a bit pass the Markets is the | Twilight Sprawl District | where most housing is established for the poor.
• Above them all is the | Nyxhaven Docks | Where air ships usually arrive, eventually slipping into the clouds.
| Out the Guide |
So we are already in the right district to find the guild hall, it is just a matter of finding it at this point. The obsidian covenant doesn’t sound like a very shady name necessarily but I’m sure it won’t be the best place to visit.
The docks sound like the best way to travel throughout the skies towards Elyndra so that will be something to consider at some point as well.
Being able to make it there would definitely save a lot of time on trying to climb the ranks instead.
Or you could fly there dummy.
The wings would be great to use for that purpose... Just I don’t need someone assuming I’m a monster coming to attack the great city of Elyndra. They’d probably try to kill me the moment I land in the city.
"So are we in the right layer or not?" Lilly asks with a bit of an annoyed tone to her voice.
I look back towards the both of them. "Yes. We just need to look around for the Obsidian Covenant." I answer while scratching my head.
Looking for places isn’t that hard for me lately since I’ve managed to find everything I’m looking for each time. Velia took us to the towers without me having to go out of my way to find it.
I have a lot of confidence that this will be the same exact thing.
I’ve found the guild halls with ease in each city so far... Then again I’ve only been to two other cities so I guess that isn’t much of a reason to brag yet.
Suddenly my thoughts are interrupted when I realize that I can hear everyone whispering all around me.
