Chapter 74: A lot of Questions

Chapter 74: A lot of Questions

"S-Say, Roku. You never told us much about the tower, did you?" Lilly asks while trying to sound casual about it, though she the faint color in her cheeks betrays her.

The tower, huh... I never did think about talking about it all that much with them. I didn’t think it was anything crazy to discuss at the moment.

Maybe it would be good to talk about it a bit while we make our way towards Nyxhaven since we have a long walk.

Plus it’s a little hard to say no to her when she’s acting cute like that out of nowhere, I’ve never seen her like this before. I guess she did miss me too after all so it makes sense.

An hour of explaining some of my experiences in the tower went by as we continue to walk, both seem to be pretty quiet as they listen.

Imagining the pain I experienced and some of the different fights I had was definitely something to ponder on.

"Rokuro did you really fight an undead dragon?!?" Ghost asks with a bit of excitement in her voice.

"I did, it was a pretty intense fight." I lie while thinking back on it.

It wasn’t a lie that it was intense or anything but I never really dealt with the fight myself at the end of the day. Rika pretty much handled everything for me during the fight.

I don’t know what it was but something triggered the need for her help during the battle. Luckily it went a lot better in the fights after that... Mostly leaving me in control of everything instead.

I’m still pretty grateful that she helped out, just wish she would’ve asked about it instead.

Lilly seems to be quite satisfied with what I told her about the tower but the questions weren’t being asked yet.

"W...What about the Akina lady?" Ghost asks with a bit of nervousness in her voice.

"Akina was the person in charge of the tower, almost like a divine being I guess you could say." I respond with a bit of hesitation in my voice towards the end.

It felt like that was the proper answer to give to that but I’m not entirely sure myself. Akina is the one who grants the wishes and definitely has some power but I don’t know what she is.

A goddess or maybe she’s just someone with a crazy amount of power. Except I don’t think that’s the case with her at all.

"R-Roku... Can we really trust her if that’s true?" Lilly asks with the nervous tone piercing through her voice.

"I’d like to believe that we can for right now since she could’ve killed us by now if she was an enemy." I respond with a bit of confidence.

For awhile after that the two of them were pretty quiet, at least when it came to asking me anymore questions. It was nice to hear the curious side of them both, especially Lilly.

She didn’t really seem like the type to show a side like this and even blushed a bit.

The curiosity of a demon and a robot, how interesting it can be.

You can’t say that you weren’t ever curious about something before. I’m curious about a lot of things in this world so I know that I can’t deny it.

I’d say I’m curious about what will come about this world. People are just constantly adapting to the ever-changing evolution of monsters and even mysterious tower appearances.

We don’t have much of a choice but to adapt if we want to survive in a harsh world like this after all. I’ve had to do a fair amount of adapting over the last few years since this all started.

I don’t know how strong hunters really are since I haven’t met any that meet the requirements of A, S,

or even SS.

Lukas seems pretty strong but I’m not sure about where he falls on the rankings compared to the others. I also don’t personally know any hunters to be able to give a fair observation on it.

Easily with all the speed and lightning he possesses, I’d say high ’A’ rank at best.

Even for an A ranking hunter he’s pretty strong when it comes to the monsters we’ve dealt with. It makes me wonder how he’d fair against other hunters if this war really does end up starting.

A war between hunters or various guilds and cities... All over what exactly?

That is also something that I don’t remember getting an answer to when Lukas mentioned it before. I probably should’ve asked about it in the first place but we’ll find out either way.

The sun was still just barely hanging up in the sky as we continue our journey for Nyxhaven, not a whole lot was going on. Ghost and Lilly kind of talk quietly around me as we travel... no monsters bother us.

Even the road itself felt like it was starting to get a bit better as we continue to travel. Taking on more of a fresh look, something that I’ve not seen in a long time.

There wasn’t a whole lot out here though. Buildings weren’t really around so it was more like a long stretch of road with nothing but emptiness.

Roads like this were pretty common when hearing south before the collapse since nobody wanted to build along the road. Too many regulations with the newer technology for them to build how they wanted.

"How much farther do you think we have to walk?" Ghost asks with a bit of curiosity in her voice.

I look ahead while squinting my eyes, still nothing in sight. "I’d say we have a good while still is my guess." I answer with a bit of uncertainty.

Nyxhaven wouldn’t be a hard city to spot based on the type of conversation hunters were having. They’d want people to know where they are so they can fight... At least that’s the assumption at this point.
