Chapter 73: Rising to the Occasion
"Thank you for the information at least, it was better than nothing." I say before giving a slight wave to Lukas.
People are going to be rising to the occasion if a war does start because of that guild in Nyxhaven. Without a doubt in my mind I believe it will cause a surge in hunters to appear.
I think there are always people waiting in the shadows for something major like this to happen. Otherwise they would already be helping out with quests.
I didn’t hear Lukas say anything back as we walked away but I did look at the crowd that was over by the board. It was a decent mix of people over there looking at it so something has to be posted.
Oh wait, I never turned in the quest.
"Rokuro there was nothing to be given for the quest. Lukas said we needed some kind of proof so nothing is our reward." Lilly speaks up after walking back over to us.
I didn’t even realize she snuck off to see about the reward for the quest but I guess it is a good thing that she did. It completely slipped my mind when we went up there the first time.
"Damn. Maybe it’s time for us to do some digging on our own." I respond.
"Oooh Rokuro wants to go to that city. What was it called again? Nyxhaven." Lilly speaks with some excitement behind her words.
"What about the others back at the junkyard?" Ghost asks with a bit of concern.
I wait until we leave the guild hall and down the street a bit. "They’ll be fine, we just need to see what’s going on in that city." I answer calmly.
They probably had their eyes on us the moment Lilly decided to mention Nyxhaven so this is going to be interesting. Not that I expect them to follow us, most won’t waste the time unless they are getting silvite for it.
The place we need to go is clear so there’s no reason to waste anymore time here. Caelmaris will be here whenever we need to come back anyway.
"At least we might get some action when we get there." Lilly says with some hope in her voice.
"We aren’t going there to fight just yet, so don’t go thinking that way." I reply.
After leaving the city we start heading south since the city of Nyxhaven is out that way. It would be quite a walk there but it isn’t the end of the world.
We’ve not had the chance to reconnect really so I’ll be able to talk to both of them a bit while we travel again. Ghost is also looking a lot better than when I first found her which gives me hope.
Is it really wise to just go without mentioning anything to the others?
I’m sure Akina has a way of watching somehow so she probably already knows what’s going on. I don’t think she’s that concerned about it yet either since she is here to see where I end up it seems.
Mira might care or maybe Velia but I’m not entirely sure.
Velia is a bit harder to read since she doesn’t have much emotion behind her responses most of the time. Mira is probably only interested in being around Akina since that’s her master.
The group has definitely shaped up to be quite interesting.
Way too many people for me to handle, I’ll tell you that much. I still struggle being around such big groups of people in those damn guild halls.
You did just fine when you were in there and even back at Ashvalis.
Maybe because I wasn’t entirely focused on it like I was the last time we were there. Or is it possible that the power is helping with negating certain anxieties now?
You might be getting used to it finally or again, you didn’t focus on it.
At least it was something that didn’t bother me this time around, that’s what matters.
I can feel someone tugging on my right harm and it brings me back to the walk at hand. Looking to my right I can see it’s just Ghost. "What’s up?" I question with a bit of curiosity.
She seems to be pondering on what she wants to say for a moment. "I know it hasn’t been long since you woke me up but it felt like you were gone forever in that tower." She answers with a bit of sadness in her voice.
"I needed to get stronger and I’m definitely stronger than I was but not quite where I need to be yet." I say with a bit of disappointment in my voice.
Realistically I think my rank is low to middle S rank right about now. I’m strong but some enemies will still give me an issue when fighting.
That’s where I’m lacking in power... I’ve got to keep pushing myself as we continue to move forward. The being that caused the collapse will beat me if I don’t get stronger and even then I might not be strong enough.
Everyone still thinks I’m a low rank hunter too, probably even consider me trash compared to the others.
So how much has truly changed? They don’t know of my strength but that’s because I can’t use it outright. My appearance will definitely change if I use the power I’m capable of using currently.
"I’m just saying I missed you, that’s all." Ghost says with more of a shy tone to her voice.
I give her a small smile. "I’ll always come back so you don’t have to worry. I missed you both." I reply with a genuine tone.
Leaving them behind while I fought in that tower was actually quite a lot on me but I endured. I want to be able to protect the ones I care about and to find my real purpose for surviving over and over again.
God won’t let me die... And the damn star is still out there watching me.
