Chapter 9 The Spectacle of the Sea: Thaumas

Electra did not answer her sister's question, remaining silent. Tyche's doubts deepened, and without regard for anything else, she grabbed Electra and prepared to leave. A brilliant light entered the cave, the luminous jellyfish dispersed, and the white-robed sea wonder, Thaumas, appeared, his beautiful blue-purple eyes filled with sorrow.

Tyche blocked her sister's path, glaring at the newcomer with anger, and issued a warning, "Vile god, clear the way. I am here to take my sister, following the orders of the two Titan supreme gods."

Thaumas paid no attention to Tyche, his gaze fixed on Electra. Tears streamed from his eyes, solidifying into colorful pearls in the seawater. Electra, unable to bear it, turned her head away. The sorrowful Thaumas let out a low howl and transformed into a whale, swimming towards the deeper seabed. Tyche, sensing she had been drawn into some melodramatic affair, was speechless. With a headache, she took Electra's hand and they departed on the current.

Upon returning to Tethys's temple, the worried sisters crowded around to comfort Electra, while Tyche reported the details of the rescue to Tethys.

Tethys did not seem surprised. She affectionately stroked Tyche's long hair, saying, "This is a trick of fate. Thaumas failed in his promotion to demigod power, and the disintegration of his divinity deeply wounded him. Pontus used his own power to forcibly heal the cracks in his divinity. From then on, Thaumas became chaotic and mad. The wonders of the ocean turned into reefs and whirlpools that confused the spirit. The cracks in his divinity continued to inflict pain upon him, and only the serene Electra could calm him. He would always transform into a whale and quietly approach Electra. But Electra did not wish to be near the frenzied Thaumas and always refused his advances."

Tyche's toes were almost digging holes in the temple floor. What a melodramatic destined partner! Electra's serene ocean divinity perfectly soothed Thaumas's pain, filling the void in his divinity. It would be difficult to resolve this without marriage. Her gossipy spirit urged Tyche to ask the question, "Sister Electra, why doesn't she marry Thaumas?"

Tethys smiled helplessly, "She is too weak. In essence, she is merely a nymph. If she lived with Thaumas, the consumption of bearing children would cause her divinity to completely dissipate, vanishing into foam."

Tyche still didn't understand and pressed on, "This matter is not without a solution. As long as Sister Electra obtains her origin and possesses a divine position, their union would be a predestined surprise. I am willing to gift her my divine position of handicrafts as a gift."

Tethys shook her head, "You were able to obtain the divine position of handicrafts because your creations astonished the gods and gained the recognition of world laws. Even if you give this divine position to someone else, the origin it represents will still be attached to you and will not accept another. Unless one day someone's craftsmanship surpasses yours, the origin will abandon you and choose the one with higher skill."

Tyche clicked her tongue. Such operations for the divine position of art, it was practically a scoundrel!

With no other recourse, Tyche returned to the small island in her territory, lamenting how hard the gods of the artistic path truly worked, constantly needing to improve their skills lest they be abandoned by their divine positions. It was much better to have new divine positions clarified from the origin; they were loyal to a single master. As Tyche played in the pool, she sensed new visitors arriving. Her divinity perceived three deities appearing in the mist: one was her friend, the meteor goddess, and the other two were Selene, the moon goddess, and Leto, the goddess of the moonlit night. Curious, Tyche dispersed the thick fog and approached the three goddesses.

Selene, the moon goddess, was already a demigod. Leto, of the moonlit night, was also an outstanding figure among the lesser gods. The two goddesses, who often accompanied each other in the night, shared a very close relationship and considered each other best friends. Tyche envied their rare, pure friendship. She warmly welcomed the three goddesses. Selene spoke first, "Dexterous Tyche, Leto and I have come here with a request." The shy Leto also bloomed with a smile, and the meteor goddess swayed her long skirt, playing with the falling stardust. Tyche immediately understood the purpose of the goddesses' visit. Before Selene could speak further, she smiled and said, "Your Highness Selene, I am troubled about how to improve my craftsmanship. You two serene goddesses have provided me with inspiration. Please, allow me to create a beautiful gauze dress for you as a token of my gratitude."

The goddesses laughed and strolled through the forest. The two goddesses who spent their nights with the night brought various beautiful fabrics as materials, and then immediately returned to the heavens to fulfill their divine duties. Watching the two goddesses depart, Asteria, the meteor goddess, sighed, "My shy sister is far closer to the moon goddess than I am." Tyche comfortingly patted her arm and whispered, "This is due to the attraction of their divine positions. The moon and the moonlit night are so compatible. I have no doubt that if one of them were a male god, they would surely become husband and wife."

Asteria chuckled playfully, "Has the dexterous goddess of rain and mist sprouted the seeds of love? I believe that among the gods in the heavens, only Helios, the sun, can match you. The heroic sun god is the most promising among the second generation of Titans to break through the limits of demigod power and become a god of great power. The divine position of climate also matches the divine position of the sun god, who spreads light and heat. Your children will surely gain immense power from the origin."
