Chapter 8 The Rain God's Duty

The divine duty of clouds and mist actually belonged to the celestial divine duties. If the divine duty of rain could be obtained to cooperate with the divine duty of clouds and mist, along with the divine duty of temperature, it would be possible to sublimate into a crude divine duty of climate.

The problem lay with Zeus, who had not yet appeared! The divine duty of lightning was a crucial link in climate and celestial phenomena. Without the divine duty of lightning, the divine duty of climate could not advance further into powerful divine might! This was unacceptable to Tyche. Sacrificing future potential for present power was not the act of a wise person!

Tyche's face was filled with such distress that it was about to overflow. While encroaching upon the domain of lightning could perfect the celestial divine duties, it would also forge an irreconcilable hatred with Zeus. The dispute over divine duties would make it impossible for the two to coexist, which went against Tyche's original intentions! This would leave her with no choice but to join the doomed faction of the Titans.

With a heavy heart, Tyche pondered and decided not to dwell on these issues for the time being. She would first secure the divine duty of rainfall. Transforming into clouds and mist, Tyche arrived in the starry night sky. The divine duty of clouds and mist came into effect, summoning thick fog from the sea and gathering it in the sky. Slowly, the heavy clouds obscured the light of the moon and stars. The divine duty of temperature radiated its chilling divine power, causing the mist to condense into tiny water droplets that pattered down into the sea.

The rain gradually intensified, obscuring the moon's view. The crisp sound of raindrops attracted a group of dolphins. The dolphins frolicked and leaped in the rain, playing joyfully. The omnipresent supreme laws perceived the emergence of a new power, and a sense of joy for the world appeared in Tyche's heart. Vaguely, Tyche sensed that amidst the world's joy, the world consciousness was also conveying a sense of urgency. This urgency was like ripples on the water's surface, clearly present yet impossible to grasp. The divinity of rainfall appeared before Tyche, and the divinity of clouds and mist within Tyche's divine fire immediately emitted an attraction. The two divinities instantly merged.

The origin of water opened its gates to Tyche. In the world of origins, countless divinities related to water appeared and disappeared, slipping away from her grasp without mercy. The brief connection with the origin benefited Tyche immensely. Although she did not gain a new divine duty, Tyche's status among the sea gods had completely changed. The origin of water favored Tyche so greatly that it even revealed the mysteries of various sea divine duties to her. The sea gods held few secrets from her now.

Satisfied, Tyche returned to the pool in her temple to slumber. She needed to properly digest her gains. Although she had not elevated her divinity to the level of middle divine might, she was not far from that position. It was just that she did not know how long it would take to take that crucial step. After an unknown period, the summons from the divine duty of ocean currents awakened the slumbering Tyche. It had been some time since she had stirred the ocean currents. With this thought, Tyche emerged from the underground waterways into the ocean. The sun chariot had reached its zenith, and the scorching sunlight baked the earth. Driving the ocean currents, Tyche, on a whim, unleashed her newly acquired divine power of rainfall.

Light gray clouds rapidly spread, shielding the earth from the sun. Fine raindrops fell continuously, soaking the dry soil. The world, damaged by the King and Queen of the Gods, was repaired by the rain. Green shoots began to emerge from the barren land, and Tyche seemed to hear the Earth Mother sighing with relief.

The rain fell for a day and a night. The two deities who did not have to drive chariots to pull the sun and moon enjoyed a long-awaited relaxation. The rainwater on the ground gradually overflowed, and then the clouds in the sky dispersed, allowing bright daylight to reappear. The sky after the rain was even cleaner than usual. From the will of the laws, Tyche knew that she now possessed the identity of a celestial deity. Clouds and mist, combined with rainfall, formed an incomplete divine duty of climate. From now on, she would have to bring rain to the sky according to the arrangements of the laws.

For a long time thereafter, Tyche had to familiarize herself with the power of rainfall. Having just escaped the work of creating fog and enjoying a few days of ease, Tyche had to return to her busy life, feeling the gradual increase in her divine power. Tyche found joy amidst her hardship.

Her busy "corporate slave" life did not last long before Rhea's cries shattered the tranquility once again. The power of rainfall promoted plant growth, and the powers of agriculture and harvest stirred. The Queen of the Gods gave birth to her second daughter, Demeter, the goddess of abundance! Losing another daughter sent Rhea's grief to its peak. The mother's nature tormented the poor Queen of the Gods, and immense sorrow echoed in the goddess's heart. Responding to her was the silence of the gods.

Tyche felt deep sympathy for the Queen of the Gods' plight. However, her daughters had not been killed, and their corresponding divine powers were slowly growing. The indifferent gods would not oppose the brutal King of the Gods for this. Such was the nature of deities.

"How truly coldhearted!" Tyche thought, causing a torrential downpour to fall from the sky. The immense sound of the rain drowned out the Queen of the Gods' weeping, preserving some dignity for the goddess. It was all Tyche could do.

-------------------------------------

The dolphins brought the call of Tethys. Tyche picked a handful of lilies, lowered her head to sniff their sweet fragrance, and leaped into the sea. She arrived at her mother's temple, where Tethys was eagerly awaiting her.

"My beloved mother, great goddess of the ocean, why do you summon me?" Tyche stepped forward and bowed. Tethys, with her blue hair, had a look of obvious worry on her face. "It is because of your sorrowful sister, Electra."

Tyche quickly asked, "My sister Electra? What happened?" The other Oceanids then gathered around and chattered to Tyche, explaining the whole story.

Electra had always remained by her mother's side as a regional sea goddess. Carefree, she had accidentally strayed into the domain of Pontus, the god of the deep sea, while playing with whales. She was abducted by Thaumas, Pontus's son and the wonder of the sea. Her panicked cries were heard by the Oceanids. The master of the River Oceanus and Tethys, the pacifier of the seas, could not easily leave. Tyche was summoned because Pontus's domain was in the deep sea, and only Tyche's ocean currents could penetrate it. "The origin of water favors you, and Pontus's domain will not reject you. Furthermore, your divinity level has reached the extreme of minor divine might, so Thaumas cannot stop you."

Tyche immediately nodded and summoned the ocean currents towards the deep sea. The quiet seabed was pitch black. Relying on her divine senses, Tyche keenly sensed Electra's location and ordered the ocean currents to rush towards their destination. The powerful impact of the ocean currents stirred up a cloud of silt, scattering the creatures hiding in the mud. Arriving at a hidden cave entrance, Tyche dispersed the ocean currents and swam inside. As expected, she found Electra imprisoned in the cave by dense coral. The goddess was unharmed and was overjoyed to see her sister, swimming towards her with a flick of her tail. Unexpectedly, the coral blocking the cave entrance did not hinder the goddess; instead, it parted to the sides.

Tyche was bewildered and asked, "My dear sister, where is the brute who abducted you?"
