The driver and bodyguard helped carry the goods inside. Upon seeing so many supplies, the director repeatedly thanked Ye Wan and Jiang Yan. Ye Wan said she wanted to look around for her classmates, so the director let the two of them explore on their own first.
Only after they had walked far away did Ye Wan pat her chest, "I really dislike it when people thank me. It puts too much pressure on me."
"You gave her things, so it's natural for her to thank you. Why feel pressured?" Jiang Yan disagreed.
Ye Wan knew she had a point, but she had always been someone who wasn't well-liked since childhood. Being thanked like a benevolent goddess suddenly made her unable to adapt, and she preferred to avoid it.
When it was time for the students to gather, the two found the main group. The league branch secretary saw them and announced that everyone was present and they could begin today's tasks.
The students' tasks were varied: some were responsible for cleaning the nursing home, some for cutting the elders' hair and nails, some for doing laundry, and others for helping with cooking.
Ye Wan and Jiang Yan were assigned to cut the hair and nails of a few elderly residents. They followed instructions and got to work.
The elders in the first few rooms were very cooperative, and the two completed their tasks smoothly. However, the last elder refused to even let them in, directly chasing them away.
Ye Wan and Jiang Yan exchanged glances, looking at each other in bewilderment, unsure of what to do. Ye Wan knocked on the door again, stating their purpose, "Grandpa, we are students from Jingda University, here to help you trim your hair and nails. Don't worry, we won't do anything else."
"I said I don't need it. Go away, all of you!" the elder inside shouted energetically.
Ye Wan and Jiang Yan had no choice but to leave and find the person in charge to inquire about the situation of the elder in the innermost room.
The person in charge said, "That elderly gentleman only arrived a month ago. He has a very peculiar temper and usually doesn't leave his room. We staff members deliver his meals to his door. Sometimes he eats, sometimes he doesn't. If he eats, he places the bowl back in its original spot; if he doesn't, he leaves it untouched. From what I've observed, he only eats lunch once a day. I've only seen him a few times."
"Have his family visited him?" Ye Wan asked.
"No, no one has ever visited him. With such a strange temper, his family probably doesn't like him either," the staff member left as they had other matters to attend to.
Ye Wan and Jiang Yan didn't press further. Since the elder didn't want their help, they couldn't force him. Their tasks completed, they decided to wander around. They discovered that the environment here was truly excellent, surrounded by green mountains and clear waters, with a small stream behind the nursing home.
The two of them explored the back area, took photos of each other, and also a group photo. Ye Wan, pleased with the pictures, posted them on her WeChat Moments, creating a nine-picture collage. It included a selfie of herself, a photo of her and Jiang Yan, and some pictures of flowers and plants.
Jin Lan had set up notifications for Ye Wan's WeChat Moments, so he saw the photos she posted immediately. He scrolled through all nine pictures, his gaze finally settling on the photo of her and Jiang Yan.
In the photo, Jiang Yan was smiling brightly. He gave a wry smile, understanding that she had completely moved on from him, and it was only natural for her to be happy.
He swiped forward, revealing Ye Wan's solo photo, saved it, and forwarded it to Gu Yunting.
After sending it, he put down his phone to get back to work. But a few seconds later, he picked up his phone again, reopened Ye Wan's Moments, and finally saved the photo of Ye Wan and Jiang Yan into his phone.
