"Those guys are no match for you." The goat-man spoke slowly, his gaze shifting to Lucy and her companions. "Let me play with you all for a while."

A heavy pressure bore down on them.

Meanwhile, Makarov stared, dumbfounded, at the figure before him.

"How... how is this possible? Could you be..."

His giant eyes were filled with disbelief. Hades, standing on the magic airship, smiled. In his single visible left eye, a flicker of something akin to nostalgia could be seen.

"Long time no see, kid!"

"Master Precht?!" Makarov slowly uttered the name.

It was 48 years ago. Makarov, then forty, was a boisterous young man who caused chaos. One day, he heard something from Fairy Tail’s second master, Precht, that stunned him.

"You want me to be the third Fairy Tail master?"

Makarov thought he’d misheard. How could someone who constantly caused trouble be made master?

"You deeply love your comrades and trust them," Precht replied.

"I believe you can create a great guild. This is Mavis’s legacy; I’m passing it to you. Carry on her spirit; Fairy Tail is yours!"

Those words still echoed in Makarov’s ears.

"Why... why are you..." Makarov seemed to be questioning Hades.

Hades didn’t answer, extending his right hand. Magic chains lashed out, seizing Makarov’s shoulders. With a powerful swing, Hades flung Makarov’s giant form.

BOOM!!

The massive body crashed into Tenrou Island’s cliff face, shattering rocks that fell into the sea, creating waves. Hades swung the chains again, smashing Makarov into the island.

Makarov reverted to his normal size, breaking free of the chains and landing on the ground.

"Why did you fall to the dark guild?" Makarov asked again, his voice low and filled with anger.

"What’s the meaning of good and evil?" Hades countered. "The world isn’t explained by simple morality."

"Regardless of good or evil, Fairy Tail’s spirit should remain unchanged," Makarov responded.

Hades paused, then burst into laughter.

"Hahahaha, the little kid’s become quite eloquent!"

"Don’t call me kid! You’re no longer a member of the guild!" Makarov clenched his fists, veins bulging. But he couldn’t help but remember the man’s kind face.

"But... I do feel some sympathy," Hades sighed. "I never thought I’d have to destroy Fairy Tail."

"I won’t let you destroy the guild!!" Makarov roared, golden magic surging.

"You want to fight, kid?" The regret in Hades’ eyes vanished. He was no longer Precht, but Hades, master of Grimoire Heart!

Dark magic, even stronger than Makarov’s, surged forth. The two magics clashed, creating a storm. A terrifying pressure filled the air.

They clashed.

"Banish darkness, sacred light rain!" A brilliant golden magic circle appeared before Makarov, launching golden light arrows.

"Devour the light, eternal shadow!" Hades extended his right hand; dark purple light appeared above him, blocking and absorbing Makarov’s light rain, transforming it into greater darkness that surged towards Makarov.

Makarov leaped, dodging the attack. Hades, anticipating this, manipulated his fingers.

Makarov, having just landed, was startled. Intricate magic circles appeared around him.

"The Amaterasu Twenty-Eight Style magic circle... completed instantly?"

The Amaterasu series is incredibly powerful but takes time to cast. Hades completed it instantly—he was truly strong.

"Heh, you still can’t win." Hades sneered, his fingers closing.

BOOM————

The Amaterasu explosion engulfed Makarov.

"O~~!" Makarov’s roar echoed from the explosion, which was dispersed by his light magic.

Hades again used chains to grab Makarov. Hades held the other end tightly. Makarov felt his magic flow slowing.

Hades swung the chains, sending Makarov crashing into trees.

"I can dance with magic freely," Hades laughed.

BOOM!!

Golden light severed the chains; Makarov landed on the ground, breathless from exertion. But he saw something that widened his eyes.

Even more intricate magic circles surrounded him, immense magic swirling within.

Makarov didn’t hesitate, raising his arms.

"Ultimate defense magic circle—Three Pillars!" Three giant pillars burst from the ground, protecting him.

"Humph," Hades smiled. "Amaterasu Hundred Styles!"

Who Are You?
