“How could that be,” Ning Wei said dismissively, while swaying her feet.
Yang Shuo watched her dangerous movements, his heart filled with trepidation.
“Since I’m here, you can come down now.” Yang Shuo took a small step forward and tentatively extended his hand to Ning Wei.
“I won’t,” Ning Wei refused, and even edged forward a little more.
Yang Shuo’s heart leaped into his throat. Another scene flashed before his eyes, and gradually, he could no longer distinguish if the person before him was truly Ning Wei’s pure and lovely face.
Qin Chang, hanging on the side, cursed furiously, “What on earth do you want!”
Unfortunately, no one but Ning Wei could hear her voice. Yang Shuo’s eyes were solely on Ning Wei now.
“Whatever you want, tell me. Please, don’t do anything so dangerous,” Yang Shuo pleaded, his voice softening.
Ning Wei turned half her face and said, “I want you to stay with me tonight. Don’t go anywhere!”
Yang Shuo had expected Ning Wei to make a demand far more difficult for him to fulfill. To his surprise, it was just this. He readily agreed, completely forgetting his dinner engagement with Dr. Zhao that night.
“I promise. Come down quickly,” Yang Shuo stepped forward again.
Ning Wei nodded lightly, then stood entirely on the stone pillar. Yang Shuo’s eyelids twitched as he watched her land before him like a butterfly.
Yang Shuo quickly reached out and grabbed Ning Wei’s wrist, saying with displeasure, “You scared me to death!”
Ning Wei easily broke free. Even if Yang Shuo had gotten angry, she wouldn’t have been upset. Instead, she leaned closer and asked him, “You promised me, you have to stay with me today. Otherwise, I really will jump!”
“You’re insane!” Yang Shuo was afraid of provoking Ning Wei, but he couldn’t suppress his frustration.
Ning Wei pulled Yang Shuo to stand by the railing. With a simple glance down, they could see Qin Chang, looking like a white butterfly.
“Dr. Yang, you’re so obedient. You came as soon as I asked.”
Yang Shuo looked at Ning Wei’s affected demeanor and subconsciously swallowed, wanting to reach out and embrace her slender waist.
Ning Wei subtly dodged. She had come for the train ticket, not to be flirted with, especially by a scumbag like him. She had no interest!
Yang Shuo, having failed to embrace the beauty, was momentarily stunned.
They stood a step apart, Ning Wei smiling brilliantly, while Yang Shuo appeared somewhat dazed.
“Dr. Yang, ever since we first met, you’ve always been looking at me. Is my face beautiful, or does it resemble someone?”
“Of course, you…”
“Of course, it’s because you’re beautiful,” Yang Shuo intended to tell the truth, but changed his words as they left his lips.
Unfortunately, Ning Wei wasn’t going to let him off so easily this time.
Her slender fingers slowly traced her face, and she murmured, “They say my sister and I look the most alike. Don’t you see it, Dr. Yang?”
Yang Shuo still hadn’t understood, “What sister?”
Down below the railing, Qin Chang knew what Ning Wei was planning. She struggled frantically. The red string on Ning Wei’s wrist tightened, already biting into her own wrist.
“Ouch,” Ning Wei softly cried out in pain.
Yang Shuo, ever the knight in shining armor, immediately noticed, “That red string is tied too tightly. Let me take it off for you.”
“Alright.”
Yang Shuo smoothly removed the red string. The next second, Ning Wei was tying it onto his wrist.
Though Yang Shuo was a man, he had fair skin. The red string wrapped around his pale wrist looked rather striking.
Seeing that the other end of the red string was now on Yang Shuo, Qin Chang dared not move recklessly.
Ning Wei watched all this, a hint of mockery in her eyes, glancing between the man and the ghost.
“Dr. Yang, take a closer look. Don’t you really think my face resembles someone?” Ning Wei placed her hand on the wrist with the red string, her eyes fixed coldly on Yang Shuo.
A chill ran down Yang Shuo’s spine. Sensing something was wrong, he turned to leave.
Ning Wei gripped his wrist tightly. Facing an adult man, her strength was no less.
Yang Shuo couldn’t break free. “I just remembered something at home. Can we talk tomorrow?”
Ning Wei didn’t reply. She flicked the red string.
Qin Chang, at the other end, flew up and landed steadily beside Ning Wei.
Bound by the red string, Qin Chang could only be led around by Ning Wei like a puppet.
This was the first time she was this close to Yang Shuo. His features, his pores, were all clearly visible.
Qin Chang grew anxious, “What exactly do you want!”
“I want the ticket!” Ning Wei looked at Yang Shuo, but was speaking to Qin Chang.
Yang Shuo couldn’t see Qin Chang, but he felt the temperature around him drop sharply, goosebumps prickling his arms.
“Ning Wei, what are you saying? I don’t understand!”
Qin Chang still refused Ning Wei’s proposal, looking as if she were ready to be slaughtered.
Ning Wei upped the stakes. She pulled Yang Shuo to the railing and pointed to the flower bed below. “Dr. Yang, do you see someone lying there?”
Yang Shuo’s legs went weak. The more he looked at Ning Wei, the more terrified he became, cursing himself for his blindness in getting involved with such a lunatic.
Yang Shuo dared not answer. Ning Wei continued, “Nine years ago, my sister Qin Chang jumped from here! Dr. Yang, can you tell me why my sister committed suicide? Did you push her?”
Hearing Qin Chang’s name, Yang Shuo was completely stunned.
“You… you are… How is that possible…”
“You want to say she was an orphan, and couldn’t possibly have a sister like me, right?”
Before Yang Shuo could react, Ning Wei pressed on, “Are orphans born from rocks? Do they have no family at all!”
Seeing the terrified, weak-kneed Yang Shuo, Ning Wei disdained him even more. She grabbed his clothes and shoved him hard. Yang Shuo’s upper body dangled over the other side of the railing.
The sudden attack startled Yang Shuo, his hands flailing, as if he had a pair of wings.
“Dr. Yang, if you keep struggling, I can’t guarantee I won’t slip…”
Upon hearing this, Yang Shuo froze. He began to beg Ning Wei, “What exactly do you want? Anything I can do!”
Ning Wei glanced at Qin Chang, motioning for her to speak.
Qin Chang shut her mouth tightly and turned her head away.
Neither of them cooperating, Ning Wei grew somewhat angry.
“Now, answer whatever I ask. If you lie, I’ll push you down!” Ning Wei told Yang Shuo.
Yang Shuo readily agreed, “Yes, yes, yes!”
“What is your relationship with Qin Chang?”
Yang Shuo froze for a moment. Ning Wei immediately gave him a push, and he quickly came to his senses, slowly recalling his past with Qin Chang.
Ten years ago, he and Qin Chang had interned at the same hospital, though he was a doctor and she was a nurse.
