Chapter 86 Zoo Four

After Ning Wei came out, she saw the neatly made bed and smiled knowingly before happily going to work.

Since they couldn't take the patrol car, everyone no longer left together.

Because Ning Wei left work on her own yesterday, the attitude of the staff at the panda enclosure today was completely different when she arrived.

It was good that they ignored her; some were even more excessively sarcastic and critical.

Ning Wei was no pushover. She cursed back at anyone who snapped at her, and if they ignored her, she ignored them. In any case, the work content was written on the paper the director had sent. She just had to follow the requirements one by one.

Although she was isolated, she didn't feel anything at all.

At noon, Fu Chengwei, for the first time, didn't call her to eat together.

Ning Wei went to the cafeteria with a hint of doubt and didn't see Fu Chengwei's figure anywhere.

Mei Nan and the others were sitting together. When they saw Ning Wei carrying her meal tray, they quickly waved: "Over here!"

Ning Wei walked over and sat with them. "Why didn't I see Fu Chengwei today?"

Mei Nan's expression was a bit grim. "He left with the director after dinner yesterday and hasn't shown up since."

Ning Wei ate her meal in silence, but her mind was constantly thinking, "Have they made their move so soon?"

But what exactly did Fu Chengwei do yesterday to be targeted?

Ning Wei didn't know, and the others were even more clueless.

Because each of them was responsible for a different area, they only glanced at others' areas before work yesterday. There was no further communication.

The workload here was indeed not small, especially for Ning Wei.

The pregnant panda was the zoo's treasure. Now, in addition to the fixed number of visitors daily, special nutritious meals had to be prepared for it.

Mei Nan asked, "Should we go look for him?"

Ning Wei nodded. "Let's find an opportunity to check. Perhaps we can find clues about leaving."

As they walked out of the cafeteria, Zhu Yulian followed. "What if Fu Chengwei has already met with misfortune?"

"Then he can only consider himself unlucky," Ning Wei said with some regret.

Zhu Yulian didn't expect Ning Wei to answer like that. She thought... she thought Ning Wei would go looking for clues.

After speaking with Zhu Yulian, Ning Wei left, not caring what Zhu Yulian was thinking.

Since she wanted to find someone, she wouldn't drag others along. What was the point of constantly probing like this?

Fu Chengwei was responsible for caring for the wolves in the predator section. His work involved cleaning cages, feeding, and maintaining order, which was the same as everyone else's job, with no differences.

When Ning Wei returned to the panda enclosure, she saw a group of people in a frenzy outside the pregnant giant panda's enclosure. Even the director was there.

"What happened?" She had just come from eating at the cafeteria, so it was normal for her to be unaware, and no one mocked her.

Moreover, with the director present, these few people didn't dare to be arrogant.

Someone proactively told Ning Wei, "The giant panda is giving birth prematurely. We're trying to ensure the panda baby is born safely."

Ning Wei knew nothing about this, but others had relevant experience.

So, the director said to Ning Wei, "You're in charge of crowd control outside. Don't let any more tourists in."

Ning Wei nodded, looked the director up and down, and then turned to leave.

There were quite a few tourists who came to see the pregnant giant panda in the afternoon. Ning Wei's mouth was dry from persuading them all to leave.

She was solely responsible for the outside area of the enclosure all afternoon, to the point of exhaustion. She had no opportunity to sneak off to the area Fu Chengwei was responsible for. Now, she could only hope that others might discover something.

After the zoo closed in the afternoon, a meeting was held in the panda enclosure, mainly to arrange for staff to continuously monitor the pregnant giant panda's condition.

Ning Wei was assigned to monitor the surveillance feed in the latter half of the night. The director even asked specifically, "Ning Wei, can you be up during this time?"

Ning Wei nodded. "Director, rest assured, I've loved animals since I was young. I don't know how excited I am to witness the birth of a panda cub. Let alone just guarding for half the night, I can do the whole night."

The director was very pleased with Ning Wei's attitude and patted her shoulder encouragingly. "The zoo needs staff like you. Keep it up! Be at the panda enclosure's monitoring room at midnight. Don't be late."

"I guarantee to complete the mission!"

Ning Wei's back-and-forth with the director made others envious. However, in front of the director, they dared not show it.

Since the time was arranged, Ning Wei planned to return to the dormitory to rest. However, halfway there, the director suddenly caught up with her.

They walked along the small path leisurely, as if taking a stroll, chatting occasionally.

To avoid alarming anyone, Ning Wei didn't mention Fu Chengwei's matter at all, acting as if she didn't know him.

"Director, I wanted to ask when we can have a day off?"

"Why, do you have something to do?"

"I just want to go out for a stroll and maybe buy a cup of milk tea."

"You young people like milk tea and fried snacks. These things aren't healthy, and the cafeteria food is much tastier."

Ning Wei persisted, "So, how many days off do we get a month? We work quite long hours every day. I want to sleep in on my days off."

The director thought for a moment and said, "Generally, we have one day off per week. However, if there's an emergency at the zoo, the days off will be postponed. Like now, with the important matter in the panda enclosure, staff are not allowed to take leave."

"And if we do get days off, which gate do we go out from?"

"Of course, it's the main gate. You go out the way you came in. The back gate is only for goods, and employees are not allowed to use it for entry or exit."

"Alright, we're at the dormitory. Go back and rest early. Don't forget you have night duty tonight. And absolutely do not drive there. The animals are sensitive at night, so try not to make any noise."

Ning Wei nodded and smiled as she watched the director enter the dormitory, appearing like an employee who was flattering and eager to please.

Upon returning to the dormitory, Tang Tang had already showered and was reading a book.

Ning Wei glanced at it and said slowly, word by word, "Pig Farming Techniques?"

Tang Tang blushed and closed the book. "I've been assigned to the small animal section, which has miniature pigs, so I got a book from the lounge to study."

"I thought you had a special hobby. But aren't pigs easy to raise? Why would you need to study a book?"

Tang Tang retorted softly, "It's not like that. In our section, there's a particularly difficult pig that not only refuses to eat but also throws tantrums. Today, it almost broke the fence, but luckily, the fence is made of iron."

"Alright, you continue. And by the way, I'll be on night duty later. A giant panda is about to give birth."
