For the entire day, their interactions were relatively normal, at least they weren't at each other's throats anymore.
Since they both knew they couldn't stand each other, there was no need to pretend, which was for the best.
By evening, everyone gathered together. Mei Nan and Song Zhi were also served the legendary "farewell meal." They commented that the food was good, but their bodies couldn't handle it.
"With every bite I take, I feel my liver jump," Song Zhi said with a wry smile.
He had previously expressed envy for Ning Wei's good meals, only to find himself in the same situation so quickly. Song Zhi wasn't sure whether to see it as good or bad.
So now, there were two people having the farewell meal: Ning Wei and Song Zhi.
The remaining seven individuals still had to take some pills before each meal. Their skill at substitution had improved considerably, allowing them to perfectly preserve each dose of medicine.
Ning Wei and Li Ye, as usual, went together to the water dispenser to administer the drugs.
After placing the medicine, Ning Wei went to the office on the second floor.
The floor was noticeably dirtier, indicating the head nurse was very busy, lacking time to even sweep.
The floor was covered in messy footprints, evidence of the scrutinizing gazes from the day.
Ning Wei opened the filing cabinet again. The folders for Ning Wei and Song Zhi were at the very front, their papers crumpled, likely from too many people having looked at them.
Ning Wei held up her own file in front of Li Ye, waving it. "It seems I'm quite popular. There are even smudgy finger marks on it."
"Don't worry, even if they take you away, I'll follow. You won't be in trouble!"
This wasn't the first time Li Ye had said this. It had to be said, pleasant words were always welcome.
Ning Wei didn't respond. Even the sweetest words couldn't compare to actions. Who couldn't speak pleasantries?
There was nothing else interesting to see, so she just waited for the exciting moment to arrive quickly.
Initially, she had been worried, but as time passed, Ning Wei began to hope for this phase to come sooner.
Since she had nothing else to do, and the secrets here were about to be revealed, staying any longer seemed meaningless.
However, the charade of this psychiatric hospital, peddling a false facade, truly troubled Ning Wei. What could she do to avenge herself and the other innocent patients?
She felt that even burning the place down wouldn't be enough.
Tuesday arrived, and Mu Qing still hadn't shown up.
Because Wang Xia had treated Ning Wei poorly, the head nurse had also noticed. To ensure her work could proceed smoothly, she personally took charge of Ning Wei's meals.
When lunch was delivered, Ning Wei tasted it and immediately knew something was wrong; more medicine had been added.
It seemed they were ready to make their move. Ning Wei's expression remained unchanged as she finished all the food.
In less than five minutes, the familiar sensation returned.
The head nurse insisted on staying by Ning Wei's side, waiting for her to lie down in bed. "Rest well, you'll be leaving the hospital soon."
Ning Wei's eyes glazed over, showing no reaction, and she closed her eyes.
At this moment, Wang Xia approached and whispered a few words into the head nurse's ear. The two then hurriedly left the room.
Wang Xia said, "The buyers have all arrived. We can send the person over."
After they left, Ning Wei immediately opened her eyes, their clarity returning instantly.
The next second, she rushed to the restroom and vomited violently.
She felt much better after vomiting, but the drug's effects were still strong, leaving her groggy.
Maintaining a few minutes of lucidity was the most Ning Wei could manage.
To achieve these few minutes, she had bitten her tongue until it bled and pinched her legs until they were bruised and black.
After vomiting, Ning Wei leaned against the door and clapped her hands twice. This was the signal she had agreed upon with Li Ye.
As soon as she clapped, Li Ye appeared at the peephole.
Through the two doors, Li Ye looked at her and nodded resolutely. Because he couldn't make much noise, his thin lips moved slightly.
He believed Ning Wei could understand what he was saying.
Ning Wei didn't disappoint him. She knew Li Ye was saying: Trust me, I'm always here.
They shared a knowing glance. Ning Wei could no longer endure the intense fatigue. She slowly lay back down on the bed, no longer attempting to stay conscious.
She knew she would wake up once the drug's effects wore off. She only hoped she wouldn't open her eyes to find someone slicing open her stomach with a scalpel.
Li Ye no longer sat by the windowsill. He sat upright on the bed, his eyes constantly fixed in Ning Wei's direction.
Before long, someone resembling a doctor appeared.
Accompanied by nurses, Wang Xia opened the door. The doctor entered and conducted a brief examination of Ning Wei.
Then, the head nurse pushed a portable stretcher, and she and Wang Xia lifted Ning Wei onto it.
"Hurry up, get her out!" the doctor said to the head nurse as he walked out the door.
A group of people pushed Ning Wei to the elevator. The doctor used his card to swipe open the elevator doors and instructed someone below via his earpiece, "We're coming down. Press the elevator."
It turned out to be a double layer of security. Even the doctor only had the authority to open the elevator doors.
Li Ye grew anxious as he saw Ning Wei being pushed into the elevator.
He banged on the door, trying to attract the attention of others.
A nurse approached, looking at Li Ye through the peephole and shouting, "Be quiet, or I'll give you an injection."
Li Ye stared into the nurse's eyes, and the bead in his hand began to glow.
"Take me with you!"
The nurse remained unmoved. "Stay put!"
"Take me down!" The bead's glow intensified.
But the nurse completely ignored him.
It seemed one of Li Ye's abilities had weakened again. He could only watch helplessly as Ning Wei was taken away, his anger causing him to punch the wall.
The elevator descended. Upon opening, it revealed a wide corridor. At the entrance was an elevator control room, where the person who patrolled upstairs every night was seated.
Further inside were the operating rooms.
Ning Wei was pushed into one of them, where five or six people in isolation suits were already present.
They surrounded her. The head nurse lifted Ning Wei's clothes and drew the positions of her internal organs with a pen.
"This is a young body with perfectly normal organs. You've all seen her profile. If you're interested, you can continue negotiations in the office. The rest of you may leave," the head nurse said, looking at the individuals present.
Their decisions could determine a person's life or death, or rather, their sanity or idiocy.
Not a single person left, clearly indicating they were all very satisfied with Ning Wei's body.
Ning Wei was left in the operating room. Perhaps they were too confident in their management, as no one was left to watch her.
Everyone else followed the doctor and head nurse to the office. Except for the head nurse and the doctor, the other medical staff took the elevator upstairs.
Once the drug's effects wore off, Ning Wei opened her eyes.
