930: Chapter 260: The Great Tomb and the Red Fox_2 930: Chapter 260: The Great Tomb and the Red Fox_2 It seemed that Qing detected Su He’s probing, and the phoenix turned its head toward Su He, yet its eyes remained closed.
Su He bowed his head slightly, offering a respectful salute.
This was not a Divine God Soul of a phoenix—Divine God Beasts did not have such a thing.
This was the resurrection form congealed from Life Jade at the Phoenix Tomb, but it had failed and fallen here.
A phoenix!
Su He turned his head slightly and then saw another phoenix emitting black light in the distance, its cry reaching the Nine Heavens just like the other.
This Black Phoenix, with just one glance, gave Su He the feeling of a kinship in attributes; it was a Water attribute phoenix.
Amongst Divine God Beasts, other beasts generally had uniform attributes across the species, such as Bifang all being of both Fire and Wood attributes; Houdou all being of Fire attribute, their bodies like molten magma; Sky Wolf all cultivating Star Power; Zhu Yan all following the path of war.
Only the Four Spirits had their own respective attributes, even those of the same attribute differed significantly.
The Wasteland Ancestor was of Water attribute, yet appeared almost transparent like glass, while Su He, also of Water attribute, was pitch black as ink.
Like cultivators, each possessed their own attributes.
This was the privilege of the Four Spirits.
Two great tombs, two phoenixes whose resurrection had failed—normally, even with great tombs, it was very hard for phoenixes to resurrect.
Offspring between mother and child, or father and child among the Four Spirits Divine God Beasts were rare.
Most were ordinary beasts that had achieved Proof of the Tao, and even if they fell into the Phoenix Tomb, they had no close kin to collect Life Jade.
Aside from the Phoenix Ancestor, only Yun Li had a mother above and a direct child below, and then there was Phoenix Chao Fei with her half-siblings from a different father and mother.
Only with a peculiar status could they be resurrected.
Su He looked around, unable to see farther into the distance; the place was vast.
But with Su He’s lower Boundary Status and the obscuration by Netherworld Qi, even utilizing Xuanwu Power wouldn’t allow him to see too far.
His gaze fell again on the two phoenixes, connected in a peculiar way, just like the connection between two adjacent lodges in Su He’s Xuanwu Star Lodge.
They were segmented yet hooked together, their energy flowing between them without interference.
Su He descended, his eyes filled with contemplation.
“The Southern Seven Lodges?”
Looking at the way the two great tombs were connected, it did somewhat resemble the Southern Seven Lodges.
With Xuanwu already entered, Su He naturally would not overlook the remaining three Sacred Beasts.
He had already gathered much knowledge about Star Fate.
But these two great tombs, in terms of attributes, one belonged to Wood and the other to Water; if corresponding to the Southern Seven Lodges, they should be Willow and Well, with a Ghost Lodge missing in between.
Because the phoenixes hadn’t died enough?
Su He was astonished.
Ji Feixue looked at him, her eyes filled with confusion.
Su He blinked, “Eight hundred thousand li ahead there is a great tomb, a tomb of a phoenix, and the great tomb still bears the phonetics of a phoenix in flight.
Shall we go take a look?”
Ji Feixue followed the direction he pointed, but saw nothing.
“I saw it with the Eyes of Xuanwu.”
Ji Feixue nodded, “Then let’s explore it!”
The place was mysterious, and they could not find the way back; since there was something unusual ahead, it was natural to go and check it out first.
She moved swiftly, immediately proceeding forward as she spoke.
Su He’s water waves churned beneath him as he headed toward the great tomb, but after a few steps, he felt something was amiss, as if he was missing something; he turned back to look at Ji Feixue.
“Wife, come up here!”
Ji Feixue was right beside him, yet she wasn’t sitting on his shell, which felt strangely odd.
Ji Feixue was startled, “Fairy Ji!”
Not to call her Daoist companion was already her limit.
Su He was very familiar with her, but she was seeing Su He for the first time!
“Fairy Ji, Fairy Ji!” Su He was amiable, “Aren’t you coming up?”
Ji Feixue fell silent for a moment, “You are a Dragon Turtle!
How could you allow someone to ride on you?”
Let alone a Dragon Turtle, even ordinary Divine God Beasts would never allow it!
Su He chuckled, “You are Ji Feixue!”
One’s own wife was naturally different from others.
Even Zhu Bajie could carry his wife!
The only ones who could ride on Su He’s shell were his daughters and his wife, and at most a toad.
Ji Feixue shook her head.
She was not that close to a Dragon Turtle.
A flash of sword light beneath her feet, and she soared forwards.
Having flown out three thousand li, Ji Feixue suddenly turned her head to see a point of red light shooting out from the void, heading straight for her and Su He, grasping and revealing a brocade book.
The Marriage Certificate had followed them.
It was still sparkling brightly, the characters on it flickering.
Su He, with a full head of sweat, gritted his teeth at the Marriage Certificate, “No need for your instigation!
We’ve acknowledged our kin!”
Ji Feixue: “…”
This turtle is so childish!
She looked past the Marriage Certificate, only to see the void mending itself, but it seemed like someone outside was in pursuit.
She leaped through and rapidly landed where the Marriage Certificate had entered, her sword slashing through space.
Yet behind the torn space was still the aura of the Netherworld.
She had not truly left this place.
The broken space was like moving from the bedroom to the kitchen in one’s own courtyard; the room changed but she was still within the same yard.
Ji Feixue looked at the Marriage Certificate and then at the space that had closed up.
She tried using the Marriage Certificate as a Magic Artifact, inputting a stream of True Yuan.
Instantly, the Marriage Certificate emitted a bright red glow, unfolding in front of her, making the names on it more visible.
More sounds emerged.
“Eternal companionship…”
“Indestructible through the ages…”
The voice, ethereal and genderless, echoed throughout the world, as if declaring to heaven and earth that it would protect this couple, not even the gods could split them apart!
Ji Feixue’s face was ice cold.
After several attempts, she could not use the Marriage Certificate to slash open the void—it simply didn’t have that function.
It instinctively followed the destined marriage ties, finding the two of them.
Asking it to return—sorry, impossible!
There was no master outside.
Ji Feixue’s eyes slightly dimmed as she withdrew her True Yuan, and the Marriage Certificate shrank back into an ordinary brocade book in her hand.
Ji Feixue put away the Marriage Certificate with a flip of her hand.
Just then, an elderly voice came from beside her, “Girl, put down that brocade book, and you may leave.”
Ji Feixue and Su He’s eyes widened simultaneously as they turned to look down at the ground.
Behind a rock, a patch of solid ice was hidden.
“Which fellow daoist?” Su He called out, his voice carrying a hint of vague familiarity.
Ji Feixue, however, was silent.
She had already struck with her sword.
In the Netherworld Passage where a huge suction force was present, her True Yuan and Magic skills were ineffective.
Landing in the Netherworld, she was no longer affected.
Boom!
The rocks exploded, and from within the ice leaped out a bone-white…
Bone Beast!
It was somewhat wolf-like, but Su He couldn’t quite say what it was.
It had no head, only a body.
The body itself was extremely malformed, as if it were forcibly pieced together from the bones of other living creatures into this wolf-like form.
Pale frost covered the skeleton.
As it emerged, a wave of cold air pushed both Su He and Ji Feixue back tens of feet, looming over them from above.
The more Su He looked at the skeleton, the more familiar it seemed.
Before he could take a closer look, the Bone Beast already spoke, “Two little ones, not much skill but quite the temper, daring to attack me.
If not for the fact that no humans have appeared here for ten thousand years besides you two living beings, I would have killed you both already!”
A Toad popped out of Su He’s eyebrow, blinking its big eyes at the Bone Beast.
As the Bone Beast spoke, its body “faced” Ji Feixue, “Little girl, hand over that brocade book!
I haven’t moved a hand in ten thousand years, don’t force me to break my restraint.”
Its voice was soothing, echoing like a breeze through a secluded valley, exuding the demeanor of a Greater Power.
Ji Feixue’s eyebrows furrowed together, her Immortal Sword raised.
She was about to strike when the Bone Beast unconsciously shrank back.
A wind picked up behind it.
“Thud!” A crisp sound as a smoking pipe harshly struck its backbone.
Suddenly…
“Ouch!” A crisp and utterly different youthful voice exclaimed, sounding like a thirteen or fourteen-year-old girl who had never grown up.
Following that, the Bone Beast shattered, and a streak of red light fell out, landing on the ground and transforming into a half-translucent, fiery red young fox, who looked confusedly behind at the Toad.
“Hey!
An acquaintance!” Su He laughed out, no wonder it felt familiar.
Wasn’t this that proud Red Fox?
He and the Toad both looked at Ji Feixue.
Ji Feixue looked back at them, unsure why they wore such expressions.
After a moment, she asked, “A Soul Beast?
Mine?”
This Red Fox was clearly a Soul Beast, a mere fourth-grade young Soul Beast.
Su He and the Toad nodded simultaneously.
The Red Fox on the ground immediately bristled, “Ptui!
Who wants to be a pet?
I am free!”
As it spoke, it looked disdainfully at the Toad.
A being that had willingly degraded itself, all for advancing a few grades, to become someone else’s Soul Beast, and even accepting a master, was bad enough, but to choose a Turtle!
And a Turtle Demon that hadn’t even developed a human form.
You should have picked the Fairy next to you, better than this ugly Turtle any day!
