Chapter 116 Ashore II
The two officers were a man and a woman. The man exuded a powerful aura and wore a constant frown. The woman was more amiable and had been gentle since they entered.
Jia Wenjun paused. "...No. But I saw her stab Lü Maowang twice in the back after taking drugs."
The male officer was silent for two seconds before saying, “Next, I will question you according to the law. I hope you will answer truthfully. Lying or fabricating facts will result in legal consequences. You are responsible for your words. Do you understand?”
This made Jia Wenjun uncomfortable. Everything she said was the truth. The male officer had informed her of her legal rights as soon as he came in, and Jia Wenjun knew that they already regarded her as a criminal suspect.
The female officer began to take notes and asked, “Name.”
“Jia Wenjun.”
Jia Wenjun spoke as she tucked her slightly disheveled hair behind her ears. She always demanded a presentable appearance, and even in this situation, she wanted to look neat and clean.
The male officer saw her tidying her hair. Although he didn't say anything, he judged in his mind that people like her were generally easy-going and upright, and wouldn't easily do things to hurt others.
“Gender.”
“Female.”
“Please provide your ID number, home address, and phone number.”
Jia Wenjun provided them one by one. She believed that the police had already investigated this information, but they still asked her to repeat it.
She knew it was their procedure and didn't dwell on it. She answered whatever they asked.
The male officer kept observing Jia Wenjun. Even on the hospital bed, she sat upright.
She didn't shrink into the blanket but folded it at the head of the bed. Instead, she sat openly on the side of the bed, her legs dangling down, wearing socks, her hands naturally hanging by her sides, facing the two officers directly.
From her habitual posture, this suspect liked to pursue perfection, was meticulous in her work, valued practicality, and disliked taking risks.
After the routine inquiries, the male officer suddenly said, “Regarding the injury to Lü Maowang, we have already understood the situation from him. According to him, you stabbed him twice.”
Jia Wenjun frowned, her voice rising, “He’s talking nonsense! I didn’t stab him. If I hadn’t taken the knife from Anna, he wouldn’t be able to lie to you now!”
As she said this, she frowned, her lips turned upwards, and her nostrils flared slightly, showing her extreme disgust and anger at Lü Maowang's words.
Jia Wenjun's chest heaved violently. She really didn't understand why Lü Maowang was still lying at this point.
“Officer, the knife I was holding when I fought the drug dealers fell on the rescue boat. I don’t know if it can still be found. Anna used that knife to stab Lü Maowang. Can you extract Anna’s fingerprints from it?”
“Whether they can be found after so long is one thing, and even if they are found, it doesn't necessarily prove that Anna stabbed him,” the female officer said.
What the police said was true. After all, the person involved didn't identify Anna but said that Jia Wenjun was the one who stabbed him.
“Can I see Lü Maowang?” Jia Wenjun really wanted to ask him clearly why Lü Maowang was still lying at this time. Didn't he see that Anna was with those drug dealers?
Or was Lü Maowang one of them? Otherwise, there was no way to explain this.
The two officers exchanged a look. The male officer said, "Not now. After confirming that there is no life-threatening danger, everyone on the ship needs to be investigated by the police first.”
Seeing that Jia Wenjun’s brow was still furrowed, the male officer looked at her, “You didn’t stab him, so did you push Zhao Di off the boat?”
Jia Wenjun took a deep breath. “Officer, I didn’t stab Lü Maowang, and I certainly didn’t push Zhao Di.”
“Then how do you explain the scene captured in the video?”
“...I can’t explain it. I don’t know what’s going on in that video. I didn’t push Zhao Di. Zhao Di’s disappearance has nothing to do with me.”
She said disappearance, not death. The male officer looked at her and continued to ask, “Did you have an emotional dispute with her over the same man before?”
Jia Wenjun took a deep breath. She wanted to explain, but this matter couldn't be explained clearly. No matter what she said, Lin Yang's matter would become the “reason” for her to kill Zhao Di.
“I don’t think this matter has anything to do with Zhao Di’s disappearance. I refuse to answer this question.” Jia Wenjun knew that their current inquiries might be related to whether her subsequent lawsuit would be beneficial. When she didn't know how to answer better, it was wise not to speak.
The male officer said coldly, "Whether it's related or not doesn't depend on your judgment."
The female officer also said, “If I were you, I would take the initiative to explain the situation. This is related to the subsequent verdict. If it’s really because of emotion, a moment of impulsiveness, choosing to surrender yourself to the police will result in leniency. This is an opportunity, and the fact that you provided the Maritime Safety Administration with clues about drug dealers may offset your crime.”
Jia Wenjun became annoyed as soon as she heard this. “You’re not me. I haven’t committed a crime. I won’t turn myself in!”
“It’s better to confess than not to confess, and it’s better to confess early than late. You’ll confess sooner or later. I advise you not to waste time.”
Jia Wenjun also saw that these two were playing good cop and bad cop. She didn’t continue to speak. Even if they treated her as a suspect, she had the right to refuse to answer.
Jia Wenjun looked at them, straightening her back, "I want to hire a lawyer. I will no longer answer your questions. If you have anything to say, talk to my lawyer then."
Even criminal suspects have the right to request a lawyer to defend them. Jia Wenjun had already decided that since she had returned from the sea, she would not allow anyone to defeat her. No matter what the cost, she would seek justice for herself.
