Niu Ying
Chapter 115 Ashore
Something seemed to be blocking her eyes. She tried to open them wide, but she couldn't see clearly. Her eyelids felt like they were rubbing against rough burlap, and eventually, her eyeballs pressed against the surface, causing a stinging pain.
Through the sparse gaps in the burlap, she could piece together an incomplete picture: Baima Mountain seemed to be squatting right in front of her. Jia Wenjun touched her thigh and asked him, "How did I end up lying here?"
Baima Mountain didn't answer. Jia Wenjun felt the cold cement ground and water beneath her. She struggled a few times and found that her hands and feet wouldn't obey her. Jia Wenjun realized that she must be tied up, but why she was here, she obviously didn't remember anything.
"Woof woof woof..." The dog's roar made Jia Wenjun look in the direction of the sound. Da Huang was actually right next to her, its green eyes staring fiercely at her, and drool hanging from the corners of its mouth, slowly dripping on her.
The dog was no longer the simple and cute creature from before, but a mad dog ready to devour her at any moment.
Next to Da Huang, Baima Mountain was squatting with his back to Jia Wenjun, swaying his body back and forth, making a metallic scraping sound.
Beside him, several large wolfhounds had appeared at some point, also excitedly snarling and baring their teeth at each other, as if competing for the food and the order in which they would eat.
Baima Mountain slowly turned around, and a sharp knife appeared brightly in front of Jia Wenjun. The metallic light on the knife flashed on the blade, reflecting from the small holes in the burlap into Jia Wenjun's eyes.
"What are you going to do!" Jia Wenjun wanted to shout, but Baima Mountain preemptively stuffed something in her mouth, making it impossible to make a sound.
"Wenjun, I'm sorry. You're our biggest problem. If we don't feed you to the dogs, we'll be in trouble when the police come. We'll all go to jail." The burlap blocked Baima Mountain's face, and all she could see was the knife in Baima Mountain's hand raised high.
"There's more meat on the thighs, so let's start with the legs."
The knife fell, plunging directly into Jia Wenjun's injured leg. The intense pain shot straight to the top of Jia Wenjun's head, accompanied by an electric-like tremor.
Jia Wenjun felt like she had bounced straight up from the ground.
"Not good, the patient is awake!" a nurse shouted next to her.
A doctor wearing a mask and covered in blood appeared next to Jia Wenjun. Jia Wenjun looked at the operating room in front of her, still unable to come back to her senses: She, she was just dreaming?
"Why did the patient wake up during the operation? Anesthesiologist, where's the anesthesia?"
"Coming!" Another person in dark blue medical clothing appeared on the other side of Jia Wenjun: "Ma'am, please bear with it, it will be over soon."
"Where is this? What are you doing?" Jia Wenjun looked at the six huge light holes on the ceiling, the bright light making it difficult for her eyes to focus.
She was actually on the operating table? It seemed that the dream just now was too terrifying, and she had actually woken up even under anesthesia.
The anesthesiologist didn't answer and directly injected a needle into her body.
In a flurry, Jia Wenjun felt everything in front of her twist again, and she fell asleep once more.
This time Jia Wenjun slept soundly, and she was no longer awakened by nightmares. When she woke up again, it was already noon the next day.
Sparrows were chirping on the treetops outside the window. Jia Wenjun stared blankly at the green leaves swaying outside the window, as if she had been reborn.
She was sitting on a bed that was as stable as could be, no longer having that shaky, about-to-fall feeling. Outside the window, the birds were singing and the flowers were fragrant, and she could no longer smell the fishy smell of the sea. She had really returned to land, and she no longer had to worry about dying at sea.
She wanted to find her phone to let her parents know she was safe, but she didn't know if they knew she had returned safely.
However, there was no phone next to her bed, and even her bag was nowhere to be found.
The door to the room opened, and a doctor and a nurse walked in with a new IV bottle.
"How are you feeling? Is the wound still painful?" the doctor asked with concern.
Jia Wenjun shook her head. The situation still felt somewhat dreamlike to her.
"It's good that you're okay. You suddenly woke up during the operation yesterday, and it really startled me," the nurse said jokingly while changing Jia Wenjun's IV drip.
It was a little noisy outside the room, which caught Jia Wenjun's attention: "What's that noise outside?"
The nurse blurted out: "Police, reporters, and family members. It's a miracle that you and the rest of the people on that ship were able to return to shore safely."
The doctor looked towards the door, then said to Jia Wenjun, "Since you're feeling okay, I'll let the people outside come in. The police have some things they want to ask you. If you feel uncomfortable during the process, you can press the emergency button next to you to call us."
"Okay, please ask them to come in." Jia Wenjun didn't know who would come in first. The only thing on her mind now was her parents.
The doctor went out, and two strangers in uniform came in. The two of them had serious expressions, and Jia Wenjun inexplicably felt nervous. One of them came to Jia Wenjun.
"Hello, we are police officers. You don't need to be nervous or afraid. We just want to understand the details of the accident on the Seashell, and about Zhao Di's disappearance."
Ever since she saw the video on the ship, where someone wearing clothes identical to hers pushed Zhao Di off the ship, Jia Wenjun knew that she would definitely face a series of difficult self-proving processes after landing. Although it was difficult, in her heart, the most difficult part had already passed. After all, she had escaped from the clutches of death, and she would tell herself this every day from now on.
The two police officers who came to Jia Wenjun's ward were there to investigate the situation of Zhao Di, who had disappeared on the ship. According to the accusations of the people on the ship and the current evidence, Jia Wenjun was indeed a prime suspect.
After Jia Wenjun heard their intentions, she didn't answer immediately, but asked, "Police officers, I would like to ask, is Anna, the owner of the Seashell, also here receiving treatment? Have the accomplices who trafficked drugs with her been arrested?"
These two police officers also knew that Jia Wenjun had provided a lot of information before. Speaking of this matter, their attitude towards her had softened a lot: "They have been arrested. That Anna has also been taken into custody, and she will face multiple charges."
Hearing that those people had been arrested, Jia Wenjun breathed a sigh of relief and said, "They hid a lot of drugs on the ship, all hidden in the fibers woven from carpets produced by Anna's company. Anna herself also takes drugs. I suspect that the damage to the ship and Zhao Di's disappearance are related to her. It is very likely that Zhao Di saw her hiding drugs, so she was silenced."
