Chapter 125 Trouble, Part Two
The doctor didn't want to cause trouble either, so he came over and explained to Jia Wenjun, "The hospital only has cameras installed in public open areas such as corridors, lobbies, the service desk, and the pharmacy. Ordinary wards, restrooms, and water rooms do not have cameras."
"The water room is also a public area. Why isn't there a camera? Now that something has happened, your hospital cannot shirk its responsibility!"
The doctor didn't want to intensify the conflict, so he could only say, "The exact situation will only be known when the patient wakes up. If it was caused by someone, the police will handle it. If the patient fainted due to their own reasons, they have received timely treatment. I understand how you feel right now, but being too emotional isn't good for your recovery."
Jia Wenjun knew that nothing would be useful until her mother woke up. Her chest rose and fell sharply, and she suppressed her anger, forcing herself to calm down.
"Is my mother awake now? I want to see her," Jia Wenjun said coldly.
"When I came over just now, the patient was still unconscious." As soon as the doctor finished speaking, his cell phone rang. After answering the phone, he turned to Jia Wenjun and said, "Your mother just woke up. I'll go with you now."
The burn unit was also in this building. When Jia Wenjun arrived, Mother Jia's injuries had already been treated and she had been moved to a regular ward.
On the way, Jia Wenjun called Wu Peng. It was not yet seven o'clock, and she knew it was inappropriate to call him so early, but she had no other choice. If someone had deliberately caused this, having a lawyer present would prevent the hospital from concealing anything.
Wu Peng had been keeping watch in the Old Master's ward last night. Although he was supposed to be keeping watch, he ended up working overtime on his laptop until late at night. Afraid of disturbing the Old Master, he took his laptop outside to work on a chair.
He worked until two in the morning. The Old Master felt sorry for his grandson, but he didn't want to say it nicely, so he irritably said that his grandson didn't want him to rest and should leave immediately if he wasn't going to sleep.
Only then did Wu Peng put away his computer and coax the Old Master to sleep.
He didn't expect his phone to ring after only three or four hours of sleep.
Wu Peng didn't know who would call him at this time, but no matter who it was, they couldn't disturb his sleep.
Especially not waking up the Old Master.
Extremely annoyed, Wu Peng reached for his phone, wanting to hang up. But he accidentally pressed the answer button.
"Attorney Wu, this is Jia Wenjun. Something happened here, can you come over right away?"
Jia Wenjun's cold voice came through, and Wu Peng opened his eyes instantly.
Although he hated being woken up, the other party was his client, and he knew about Uncle Jia's situation yesterday, so he immediately got out of bed, quietly opened the door, and left the ward. Only then did he say in a thick nasal voice, "Okay, I'll come to your ward right away."
"No, go directly to the burn unit on the fourth floor. My mother is injured and just woke up."
Wu Peng was stunned. "Aunt Jia?"
He thought something had happened to Uncle Jia, but he didn't expect it to be Aunt Jia.
Jia Wenjun quickly told Wu Peng what had happened.
Wu Peng was surprised. "Okay, I'll go to the fourth floor now."
After hanging up the phone, Wu Peng quietly opened the door and entered the room. He didn't want to wake up the Old Master, so he just wanted to grab his bag and leave, but he didn't expect the Old Master to already be sitting up.
"Why aren't you sleeping so early? What are you going to do?"
"Something happened to a client. I'm going over there." Wu Peng didn't want to tell the Old Master too much about the firm's affairs.
"Is it that Jia Wenjun?" Old Master Wang asked with a沉着脸.
Although Wu Peng didn't tell the Old Master too much, he still told the Old Master about Jia Wenjun hiring Attorney Liu as her defense lawyer in order to understand the situation on the ship in detail.
"Yes."
"That woman dares to kill people. What good can come of you getting involved? You should have less contact with her in the future. Tell Attorney Liu to have someone else take over this project."
Wu Peng popped a piece of gum into his mouth. "Why don't you just tell Attorney Liu that I quit? I think that would be easier. Otherwise, he only has a few people under him, and each of them has a pile of cases. No one will take over for me."
"Dare you!" The Old Master had finally gotten Wu Peng to become a lawyer and wouldn't let his grandson ruin his future for a woman like Jia Wenjun.
Wu Peng knew it would be like this. If the Old Master was really willing to let him resign because of this, then he would really have to thank Jia Wenjun.
"Since I can't leave, then I definitely have to work. Alright, don't worry about my work. Get some sleep, I'll come see you after work." Wu Peng slung his bag over his shoulder, opened the door, and walked out.
The Old Master thought about Jia Wenjun's nature and was afraid that she would harm his grandson, but then he thought that this wasn't the sea. Besides, she hired Attorney Liu, and his grandson was just an assistant. Whether it was for personal or professional reasons, she had no reason to do anything to Wu Peng.
Thinking of this, he sighed. He thought he could stay away from those people and that incident after getting off the ship, but he didn't expect Jia Wenjun to be so persistent.
It seemed that he had to keep a close eye on that woman and prevent her from starting any more trouble.
By the time Wu Peng found the burn unit, Jia Wenjun had already seen her mother, who had woken up, in the ward.
"Mom, how are you feeling now?" Jia Wenjun looked at the treated area on her mother's leg and choked up.
Perhaps she had gotten used to the pain, Mother Jia wasn't in as much pain as she was at the beginning. She took a breath of cold air. "It's alright, it doesn't hurt. Don't cry."
The doctor had just told Jia Wenjun that her mother's leg had deep second-degree burns. Because she had fallen to the ground, the burns covered the area from her thigh to her calf.
Deep second-degree burns were already quite serious. Even if they healed, they would leave significant aftereffects and scars. A person as beauty-conscious as her mother might never be able to wear a skirt again.
Jia Wenjun composed herself and asked the most important question first, "Mom, what exactly happened to you? Why did you fall in the water room?"
Mother Jia was about to speak, but suddenly looked at Wu Peng outside the door, her face paling.
"Aunt Jia, are you alright? What exactly happened?" Wu Peng walked to the bedside, looking at Mother Jia lying on the bed.
Mother Jia's face was not good, as if she had been frightened. After a while, she recognized the person's face. "Little Wu."
"Mom, I asked Attorney Wu to come. You suddenly fainted and were injured, and I have difficulty moving around, so I asked him to help."
Wu Peng looked at Mother Jia. "Aunt Jia, do you remember how you were injured in the water room?"
Thinking of the situation at the time, Mother Jia shrank back, looking scared.
Jia Wenjun held her hand, her voice firm. "Mom, don't be afraid. This is a society ruled by law. No matter who harmed you, we will get justice."
Mother Jia paled as she held her daughter's hand back, calming herself for a while before saying nervously, "You might not believe it if I say it, but I... I saw a ghost at the time."
