Qing Shan Qu Zui
Let me briefly explain the upcoming update schedule.
This is already the highest speed I can achieve with my current efforts. A book of more than four million words is basically equivalent to a septuagenarian or octogenarian, so it's no longer appropriate to demand the standards of a young person... I fully understand the feelings of many readers who urge me to update more and feel that it's not enough to read, but I really don't have the strength. My primary goal now is to maintain my level and finish the book steadily, writing an ending that satisfies both myself and everyone else. So, please be considerate. If you really can't, just let it sit for a while and give me some time to carefully consider things.
As for the ending, I had already thought about it when I started writing the book, and I have absolutely no intention of changing it. It's a semi-open ending, and I personally am very satisfied with it. As for the specific reasons for writing it this way, some readers have already roughly guessed it. This is the only solution. I won't spoil it yet, and will explain it after the book is really finished.
As for the word count, the current estimate is between 500,000 and 1,000,000 words, which is more than the five million words that I initially promised.
According to the plot in the book, there will be one or two more major cycles to complete all the parts that need to be finished. In terms of time, it will be about one year after President Pei graduates, and then it will be officially completed.
Some readers may hope that this book can be written to 8 million or 10 million words, etc. I fully understand everyone's feelings of liking President Pei and Tengda, and not wanting to see the end of the story. In fact, I personally am also quite reluctant, and judging from the current data, the recent data has actually increased compared to before, which is better than I expected. If we simply look at it from the perspective of data, it would be reasonable to write another four or five million words.
However, it is precisely because of the increase in data that I feel that it should be ended in the most appropriate place, starting and ending well, and not writing indefinitely.
Why make such arrangements? There are mainly two reasons.
First of all, the formulas of every book are finite. Some people say that "writing too many anti-routines also becomes a routine." How should I put it, indeed, that's quite right, but it's a very correct but meaningless sentence...
There is no book that doesn't have formulas. Other novels go through a cycle of defeating monsters, leveling up, and earning money, and there are only so many things that go back and forth. There's nothing to be surprised about, right? Why would anyone expect anti-routine things to always bring you the initial surprise? That's impossible in itself, right?
If a book is written indefinitely, yet can always bring surprises, then that's just a load of crap.
Before, there were always readers who said that they were tired of watching anti-routines and wanted me to change routines, but I ignored them, precisely because I couldn't change them. I've explained many times why I can't change them, so I won't repeat them. The only solution is to keep the big routine unchanged, change the small routines and details, and come up with more tricks. This is the optimal solution I found, and it may also be the optimal solution for this genre. After all, I haven't seen anyone else write anti-routines that can be stable for 5 million words.
The reason why many people say that anti-routines collapse after 500,000 words, but I can write to 5 million, is because I understand this principle better than them. My mind is very clear about what should be retained and what should be abandoned.
But no matter how much you fine-tune it, there is ultimately a limit, and that is the lifespan of a book.
Before, I said that the book was approaching the end stage, and what I meant was that the wonderful plots that I could think of had been written almost completely, and the ideas I wanted to express had also been made clear. There was nothing that had to be written.
It's not that the book has to be finished because the word count has been reached, but that it has to be finished because the content is gone. This content is not about the plot, but about the wonderful plots. The plot can be extended infinitely, but the wonderful plots are very limited.
I can write about President Pei at 80 years old, but if the next fifty years or so are spent doing similar things, then what's the point?
It's like mining. The further you go, the harder it is to mine high-quality ore. When you've mined enough, it's time to stop. It's not that you have to dig to a certain depth to stop, nor is it that you have to dig out the last piece of ore to finish.
Of course, if you ask me if the anti-routine stuff has been completely mined? Has the game stuff been completely mined? I can say with certainty, no.
But I've mined everything that can be written in this book. The rest are things that this book can't write.
This leads to the second issue: the genre has reached its peak.
Some people may ridicule and say, oh, your book started out pretty good, but it's getting worse and worse as it goes on, so the fact that you didn't get 100,000 subscriptions is because you're bad, or because you wrote it wrong, or something. I have to say, how many urban books aren't high-opening and low-going?
Don't mention urban cultivation and spirit qi revival, those don't count as urban genres at all. The urban genre I'm talking about is pure urban, like entertainment, without any combat systems.
Because the urban genre itself is a genre that is strong in the early stages and weak in the later stages. Urban has a strong sense of immersion, and the refreshing points come quickly in the early stages, but the protagonist also easily loses their goals and motivations. Take entertainment as an example, it's too easy for the protagonist to earn money and win awards for filming movies. It's very refreshing at first, but it doesn't work after a few times, the refreshing points can't be raised, and it's no longer refreshing.
But in this context, it's impossible to continue to dig deeper refreshing points, so urban is destined to be a genre that is very difficult to take off in the later stages.
In fact, if you really want me to write 10 million words, can I write it? Yes, I left this interface early on, which is technological mutation, exceeding reality. This content is enough for me to write for a long time. But after careful consideration, I still chose to give up.
I foreshadowed it at the very beginning, saying that the technological development of this world is different from our real world, it will mutate and accelerate, including the AI in the game and the content of autonomous driving, I also made some attempts that exceeded reality. In fact, the initial consideration was to use this setting to expand the plot when there are still plots but the plot is used up.
But after trying it, I felt that the effect was not good. Some readers didn't approve of it, and said that this technology was too outrageous and not realistic at all. In fact, that's just the beginning, and I haven't even touched the brain-computer interface that I imagined...
But this is also normal, probably because the entire world view is relatively close to reality. The more technology is pushed up, the more a sense of tearing will happen in the world view for readers, which may cause a deviation.
So, let's stop the technology line of this book here, and not continue to go up.
If I force myself to write it, I estimate that I can still keep more than 60% to 70% of the current readers, but I have no confidence in the wonderfulness of these plots at all. I feel that it may not be very good, and that these ideas will be wasted. And the more technology is raised, and the larger the company scale, the refreshing points generated will not be increased accordingly, but will be decreased. It's still because of the limitations of the urban genre itself. Some things, for well-known reasons, just can't be written. The further you go, the harder it is to avoid them, and the more you can't get around them, which makes people very awkward.
If someone says, ah, I don't agree, there's no such thing as urban being high-opening and low-going, it's just that you're bad! I can only say that this is the consensus I've reached after discussing it with the best urban authors in recent years. In the future, you may see many successful authors who came out of urban giving up the urban genre and turning to other genres, because everyone feels that the ceiling of pure urban is not high enough. Of course, what I mean by giving up the urban genre is not giving up the urban background, but giving up the pure urban content and writing style.
The things that haven't been mined will be mined in the next book, and there will be a more suitable theme and background. I would definitely be reluctant to give up these things, so I'm leaving them for the next book. In fact, I already had a rough idea three or four months ago, but I won't reveal it for now.
Of course, everyone can rest assured that I will definitely write to a level that satisfies me before finishing the book. I won't force the progress. If it really exceeds 1 million words and I still haven't been able to transition to the ending, then I will continue to write until the transition is natural. After all, although this book has entered the late stages, the data is obviously better than I expected, better than the peak data of many books. It can often go to the top ten in sales, so I have no urgent desire to start a new book or finish it off. What I need is an ending that is satisfactory enough for me.
This is to synchronize my current status and plans with everyone. Thank you for your understanding and support, thank you!
