Chapter 1472: Chapter 1472: Sylvan, don’t leave me

From the very first day he brought her back to the Cheney Residence, he upheld this principle.

He would not let her inquire into matters she shouldn’t, nor would he let her worry about things she needn’t.

All she needed to do was attend school and take good care of herself; nothing else required her concern.

He could handle all matters for her, and shield her from the winds and rains. He believed his shoulders were strong enough to bear it all.

But Jasmine Yale was different; often, she wanted to share some of his burdens.

She also wanted to hear him talk about his worries.

“I saw a piece of news this morning,” Jasmine Yale gazed into his eyes and continued, “It was international news, about a mining explosion accident.”

She told him everything she knew.

If he still didn’t want to say much to her, then she wouldn’t ask further.

A subtle sheen flickered in the depths of Sylvan Cheney’s eyes, his eyelids narrowed slightly, the sharp light of his gaze falling upon her face, his jawline taut.

“Did I hear it right that there were no survivors from the explosion?” Jasmine Yale continued to ask as he did not stop her.

Only then did Sylvan Cheney give a “hmm” in response.

“Was Zaiden Santos there?”

“Yes,” Sylvan Cheney didn’t hide it from her.

Jasmine Yale was stunned; though she had hoped to hear the words “no” from him, the truth turned out to be “yes.”

“There was a gas explosion in the diamond mine; Zaiden Santos was the overseer and went there in person,” Sylvan Cheney explained indifferently.

Jasmine Yale’s face was filled with shock.

Unlike Sylvan Cheney, who remained composed, she easily displayed her emotions on her face.

“Evan Guerrero has already arrived in Yuhannesburg. He will handle Zaiden’s affairs; after all, Zaiden is his brother.” Sylvan Cheney rubbed his temples, slowly saying, “Since Zaiden has already divorced Ann Nolan, there’s no need for you to tell her about this. Evan won’t either.”

Jasmine Yale froze; the only thing echoing in her ears was the deep voice of Sylvan Cheney, resonating repeatedly.

All of a sudden, the living room plunged into silence.

Quiet and peaceful.

Not a single sound to be heard.

Jasmine Yale realized then, Zaiden Santos had died…

The light in her pupils shattered into fragmented traces, and suddenly, the refined and handsome man reappeared in her vision.

Though she had despised him and cursed him with Ann when they were drunk, ultimately… when someone dies, it all amounts to nothing.

All the grudges, affections, joys, and sorrows become utterly unconnected.

From now on, that person no longer exists in this world.

“I understand,” Jasmine Yale recollected her thoughts, somewhat dazed.

Suddenly, she wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her head in his embrace as if she was afraid of losing him, holding him in a fearful posture.

Her arms tightly encircled his waist.

Fearful of loss.

“Sylvan, don’t leave me. Promise me, don’t leave me, please…” she called his name, her eyes instantly reddening, her voice choked with endless pain.

“Mm,” he lifted his hand, gently caressing her head.

Jasmine Yale leaned into his embrace, feeling very cold, as if she had suddenly entered an ice cellar.

A chilling coolness permeated her limbs and body.

The affairs of the world, nothing wounds the heart more than parting through life and death.

She didn’t want him to leave her.

She curled up in his arms, fearing that if she loosened her grip, he too would disappear.

But he wouldn’t; he had promised her.

The rims of Jasmine Yale’s eyes were already red.

Perhaps it’s that women are different from men; their thoughts are more delicate, more sensitive.

It’s as if a string in the heart has been touched, stirring up ripples at the pit of her stomach that refuse to settle for a long time.

The truth is, it’s a bit hard to accept.
