Chapter 210: A slime’s life (13)
"Chief, there’s trouble!"
As I had finished inspecting the Metal Lizard mine, there was a kobold that ran into the mine screaming this.
I looked at him with one brow raised before asking, "What is it? Calm down and tell me."
The kobold didn’t seem like he was able to calm down with the way that he was panicking and waving his arms around. But since he was doing this, I wasn’t actually able to understand what he was going on about.
So in the end, the only thing that I could do was...
"Smack!"
"Are you calm now?"
There was a dazed look on the face of the kobold after he had been smacked in the back of the head, but it was effective as he soon came back to his senses and he slowly gave a nod.
After giving this nod, he took a deep breath and said, "Chief, it’s really bad."
I said with a sigh, "Stop stalling and tell me already."
With a heavy tone, he explained what the situation was.
It turned out that the scouts of the settlement had found a powerful monster coming in the direction of the settlement. Judging by the report that they gave, they made it sound like it was even stronger than the Goblin King.
But just because it was stronger than the Goblin King didn’t mean that there was a reason for me to worry.
After all, the Goblin King wasn’t even considered that strong for me.
"How far away is it and how long will it take for it to arrive?" I asked in a calm voice after hearing his report on the monster that was coming.
The kobold was caught off guard by this question and seemed to have to think about it for a bit before finally saying, "It should arrive tomorrow."
With a nod, I said, "Alright, bring me to it."
Then before the kobold could even react, I had already formed a pair of wings on my back and had grabbed him with my claws.
The kobold looked like he was terrified of something when he saw this, but he wasn’t able to do a single thing as I lifted him up into the air and flew out of the mine.
While we were flying, the kobold screamed out in terror.
It was just that no one seemed to care about the kobold as I flew off while holding him.
With the way that they ignored us, it was as if they were afraid that they would attract attention from me if they were to say something.
I didn’t care as I lifted the kobold out of the Metal Lizard mine, but I stopped once we were out since I had no idea which direction we were even supposed to go. So the only thing that I could do was prod the kobold and say, "Hurry up and tell me which way to go."
The kobold still had tears streaming down his face when I asked him this, but eventually he calmed himself down enough to point in one direction.
I didn’t waste any time flying off in that direction.
As we flew, the tears of the kobold sprinkled down onto the ground, blown off by the wind that was generated by the force that we flew at.
It didn’t take me long to find the monster that was heading towards our village.
That was because this thing was giant.
The moment that I saw this, I already knew what it was.
That was because there was only one thing that was hulking and lumbering like this.
It was a Flesh Colossus.
In the grading system of the game, this thing was considered a B Rank Monster. Though in terms of power, it could go up against A Rank Monsters.
The reason that it received a B Rank rating was all because of the lack of intelligence that it had. It had even less intelligence than a normal monster since this thing was nothing more than a moving pile of flesh.
A Flesh Colossus was formed by the gathering of flesh golems, melding together as one large mass.
Basically, this thing was just a very large zombie that moved based on instinct alone.
So it was easy for other A Rank Monsters to avoid this thing. Even B Rank Monsters would be able to avoid it and wear it down, which was why it was ranked as a B Rank Monster.
When we came close, I could feel the trembling coming from my claws.
It wasn’t that I was trembling, it was the kobold that I was holding that was trembling.
"Chief, we should go and get Miss Iris to take down this thing."
It was clear that the kobold didn’t have faith in me to take down this Flesh Colossus, but I didn’t listen to him.
After all, there was something that I wanted to test and this was the perfect target to test this.
"There’s no time. I have no idea how long it’ll take for her to come back and there’s no telling what this thing will do. So I’ll take care of it."
This was nothing more than an excuse.
Since I recognized what this monster was, I naturally knew the reason why it was lumbering towards our village.
It was simply driven by the instincts to feed.
Our village had gathered quite a few things and these were what had attracted the Flesh Colossus.
It would be easy to use those things to lure the Flesh Colossus away and stall for time until Iris came back to settle it. But I knew that they didn’t know this and took advantage of this.
Not to mention, I was the chief so I could do whatever I wanted.
The kobold looked like he wanted to say something else, but he soon swallowed his words when he saw what was happening.
It wasn’t often that one saw a bolt of black lightning fall down towards them after all.
