Chapter 209: A slime’s life (12)

"Ah, chief, you’re finally here!"

This wood nymph happily called out to me when she saw me arrive.

I went over to where the wood nymph was and looked at the saplings that were growing in front of her before asking, "How long do you think it’ll take for these to grow?"

She didn’t hesitate as she said, "It won’t take long at all as long as I’m here. I’ve already fertilized them for today, so you’ll be able to see the growth tomorrow."

I gave a satisfied nod when I heard this.

This was the reason why I had recruited these wood nymphs in the first place.

After all, they were very important for the plan that I had.

While it would be possible for us to go around and search for materials that we needed to make things, the better idea was to grow these things ourselves. If we were self sufficient, then it would be much easier for us to grow as a settlement in the future.

After all, it was better than having to look for resources and risk clashing with other groups of monsters.

There were monsters that were all over the place in this Avon Forest, so there would almost always be a monster that would claim a spot as their territory.

To get to the resources in the territory of another monster, it would require fighting them. I would have to either subdue them or I would have to kill them before they would give up the resources in their territory.

It wasn’t as if all the monsters that were here were weak, so it was much easier to grow our own materials.

After giving this satisfied nod, I moved onto the next field.

It wasn’t just a single wood nymph that had agreed to join our settlement, it was the entire wood nymph community that agreed. They even seemed like they would fight for the right to stay here after they met Iris.

To be protected by a dragon...that was a very enticing thing in the Avon Forest.

After all, dragons were among the strongest monster races that were out there and as long as one could obtain the protection of a dragon, it would mean that they would generally be safe against other monster races.

Especially when it was a dragon that had the pressure that Iris did.

That pressure that she released was more than enough for them to recognize her as a pureblooded dragon.

This was the kind of dragon that far surpassed most things in the Avon Forest.

Perhaps only the few kings at the center of the forest would be able to match her.

Since all of these wood nymphs joined us, that meant that it wasn’t just a single field that had been created. There were several fields that had all been created by the wood nymphs and they grew all kinds of different plants.

It was my job today to inspect them all.

Though in reality, there wasn’t much for me to inspect since the wood nymphs knew what they were doing. They were a race that had a special ability that was suited for this kind of work, so it wasn’t as if they would do anything wrong.

After inspecting the work of the wood nymphs, I headed off to a different place.

This was a mountain that was near the village.

It was a mountain that none of the kobolds cared about since there weren’t any ores for them to mine from this place.

However, it was different now since there were quite a few kobolds that were in this place. At the same time, there were many things that were placed around this area, surrounding a certain cave.

It was as if all of this had been set up just to defend that one cave.

From the cave, there were kobolds coming in and out with wheelbarrows filled with ore.

It was a fact that there hadn’t been any ores to mine from this mountain previously, but now the kobolds were going in and out with ores.

It really was strange that such a change happened with this place.

But at the same time, it wasn’t strange since there was something new inside of the mines now.

It was the new tribe that I brought back with Leon a few days ago.

Other than the wood dryads, there was another race that we had convinced to come back with us.

It was just that this race of monsters wasn’t exactly intelligent.

That was why there was different treatment for this race.

Once I walked into the cave, I could see the kobolds taking care of the monsters that were in the pens that we had built.

These monsters were lizards that had ores growing on them.

The name for their race was Metal Lizards and that was a perfect name for them since it described exactly what they were and what they did.

These lizards had the ability to grow ores on their bodies from the food that they ate and that was the reason why we captured them.

Each of the lizards were placed in pens based on the metal that they grew.

The pen that had the most lizards was naturally the one that contained lizards that grew iron.

Iron was the most common kind of ore that could be grown on these Metal Lizards, so it was only natural that there were so many of them.

The least common was the one pen that had only a single Metal Lizard in it, but this one single Metal Lizard was worth more than every other Metal Lizard in this cave. If I hadn’t been lucky enough to find it, then we certainly wouldn’t have found one.

What grew on the back of this Metal Lizard was...mithril.

Mithril was a high grade metal in any game world and this game world wasn’t an exception.

With the wood nymphs, the problem of plant material was solved.

With the Metal Lizards, the problem of ores was solved.

Now all that was needed was time for this settlement to develop.
