Chapter 226: My Best Wife

Chapter 226: Chapter 226: My Best Wife

Laura wasn’t alone shopping at the department store; her boyfriend was with her, of course. She waved at a couple who looked gloomy from a distance. She was curious about what was happening to them. Were they arguing? That’s why she and Ansel decided to cancel their date and go to them.

"What’s wrong with you two?" Laura asked, looking at Victoria, whose eyes were glistening with tears. "Wait a minute! Did you two fight?"

Ansel immediately glared at Matthias and wanted to grab him by the collar. "What did you do to Victoria?"

Victoria looked at her two friends with a pleading face, her arms outstretched. "Don’t hurt my husband! He’s innocent!"

"Then why are you crying?" Ansel asked with a worried look.

"Because I don’t have confidence in myself."

Ansel and Laura widened their eyes simultaneously. "What?"

Laura rolled her eyes. "So, you guys weren’t actually fighting?"

Matthias folded his arms. "Why do you guys want us to fight so badly?"

"If you fight with your wife, I’ll beat you up!" Ansel rolled up his sleeves.

Laura looked increasingly worriedly at her still listless friend. She patted her friend’s shoulder and held her hand tightly.

"Speaking of which, how about we go shopping together? It seems like women’s affairs should be discussed among women."

Victoria nodded as she looked at her husband. "Matty, can I go shopping with Laura?"

"Okay, but if you get tired, don’t push yourself."

Victoria and Laura walked together into the department store. Victoria remembered the times she used to shop with Matthias there. Especially since Matthias often bought her beautiful clothes. Now, she couldn’t wear any of those clothes. She had to wear maternity clothes she didn’t like. That was why she’d been so gloomy all this time.

"You don’t need to be sad," Laura suggested, feeling the shirt displayed in the window.

"Actually, I still feel insecure. Even though Matthias doesn’t mind that I look ugly now, I’m worried he’s saying things like that to cheer me up."

"Victoria, I’ve been friends with Matthias for a long time. Matthias never speaks carelessly when it comes to the woman he loves."

"But, did he ever let it slip that he actually only meant to entertain us?"

"Matthias always tells the truth. Although he’s always been very cold, he has a warm and gentle heart. He always sacrifices everything for you because he has a principle that he only trusts one person, and that person trusts him very much." Laura put an enthusiastic arm around her friend’s shoulder. "Don’t give up easily. Lately, Matthias has even been asking me for my opinion."

"What opinion?"

"Matthias is nervous because he’s insecure about everything he does to you. He’s always asking what sensitive topics pregnant women hate most. I’ve never been pregnant before. It seems he’s afraid that whatever he does will disappoint you."

Victoria shook her head quickly, slowly releasing her grip. "I was never disappointed in him. I was actually worried about him."

"Then, as your friend, my advice is that you should talk to him about this in a respectful manner. If you don’t tell him the truth, he’ll feel like you’re disappointed in him."

Victoria wiped her eyes for a moment, then embraced her friend’s hand again. "I want to go back to him."

"Actually, I didn’t want to keep you there for too long. I was afraid Matthias would get mad at me for kidnapping you in the middle of your date."

Laura took the initiative to lead her friend back to the two men still waiting in front of the department store. She let go of her friend’s hand and then embraced her lover’s hand again.

Victoria immediately approached her husband and wrapped her arms around his broad back. Her eyes began to well up with tears again, making Matthias panic as well. Had something happened to his wife and Laura?

"Matty, I want to go home now."

Matthias stroked his wife’s head while looking at his two friends. "Let’s go home now. My wife seems tired."

Upon arriving at their luxurious residence, Matthias led his wife to sit on the living room sofa, then helped her take off her shoes.

Victoria couldn’t hold back her tears any longer. She finally let out a loud cry, making Matthias panic even more.

"Tory, what’s wrong with you? Did you and Laura have a fight?"

Victoria shook her head slowly. "No. I cried because I was happy."

"Are you happy? Weren’t you sad earlier?"

"You sit with me first. Doesn’t it hurt to kneel all the time?"

Matthias sat down next to his wife and put his arm around her shoulder. "Is there something you want to talk to me about?"

"Matty, I really want you to be honest with me. Aren’t you ashamed of having such an ugly wife?"

"Why do you say that? I still love you no matter what." He narrowed his eyes. "Could it be that you were feeling insecure while we were shopping? You were worried everyone would talk about me."

Her head nodded weakly. "I was worried you’d be hurt hearing everyone criticize you for having an ugly wife. And yet you still look perfect."

"There’s no way I’d be hurt! In fact, I really enjoy seeing you healthy and pregnant. You’ve also looked absolutely adorable all this time. That’s what makes me like you even more."

"Am I adorable?"

"Of course. Every night you crave something sweet, I make cookies for you. I even learned all your favorite recipes so you wouldn’t get hungry in the middle of the night. Plus, you’re so spoiled."

"But, don’t you feel tired of dealing with a troublesome wife like me?"

"If anyone dares to make fun of you again, I’ll beat them until they learn their lesson. Of course, I never thought you were ugly. As time goes by, my love for you continues to grow. I’ll try to be better so you won’t be sad or have any difficulties during your pregnancy."

Her cheeks flushed red at his sweet words. She immediately hugged him tightly. "I want to be with you right now."
