Chapter 225: Chapter 225: Pregnancy Period

A few months have passed...

Now she’s entered her second trimester. Victoria is increasingly relieved that she’s still doing well, even though she’s been tiring easily lately after overworking herself. The T&H Real Estate development project in Yanmang is also nearly complete, so she doesn’t need to visit there anymore. She’s focused solely on D&C Group’s recovery. Since she took over as chairman, the company’s condition has improved, and the board of commissioners has consistently supported her initiatives. Some even advised her not to overwork herself while pregnant.

Although Victoria was starting to feel exhausted, she still held her usual weekly meeting. She wiped her sweaty cheeks, trying to act professionally in front of all the board members present so they wouldn’t worry.

"By the way, are you okay?" asked one of the middle-aged women with a worried look.

"It’s okay. I’m just a little tired today," Victoria said, rubbing her gradually growing belly.

"If you’re really not feeling well, we should postpone the meeting. It’s not good for you, as you’re pregnant, to push yourself too hard."

"I can still meet with you now. You don’t have to worry about me."

The handsome CEO suddenly burst into the meeting room, causing everyone’s eyes to widen and their mouths to drop open. Meanwhile, the board members were visibly relieved to see him and greeted him respectfully.

"Mr. Matthias, you finally came on time."

Matthias sat down next to his wife and quietly touched her soft hand. "Are you okay?"

Victoria nodded. "Why is everyone so worried about me today?"

"I’ll tell you later. But right now, let’s just focus on the meeting."

"But, don’t you still have business at your office?"

"I’ve finished everything. Now I want to stay here with you. You don’t need to worry anymore. I’ll take care of you."

The meeting lasted about an hour. After the meeting with the board members, Matthias gently led his wife into the leadership room. He actually wanted to reprimand her for holding the meeting while she wasn’t feeling well. However, if he got angry, would she be offended? Especially since her temper had been a bit bad since her pregnancy.

"Tory, can I get you some water?"

Victoria patted the sofa. "I want you to sit down."

Matthias sat down next to his wife and put his arm around her shoulder. "If you need water, just call me."

"Actually, I wanted to ask you a question. Why did you suddenly come to the meeting today? Did they ask you to accompany me?"

"I’ve probably noticed it since this morning. Your face is pale, but you still won’t admit it. But your guess is correct; they also asked me to attend the meeting to protect you."

Her cheeks flushed red at those unexpected words. "I still can’t believe they care about me, even though we were enemies before."

"Actually, there are many people who love you too. But all this time they were incited to the point where they had to defend the bad guys. Now the bad guys are gone. They can defend you and take care of you freely."

"But, you didn’t scold me?"

Matthias smiled casually and gently pinched his wife’s cheek. "Why would I scold you? I don’t want you to get even more stressed."

"I want you to answer honestly. You actually want to scold me, right? But you can’t bear it because I’m pregnant."

Instead of getting angry, Matthias continued to kiss her cheek enthusiastically over and over again. "I’ve told you many times, I won’t scold you because it’s natural for you to act this way. You’re getting more stubborn as time goes on, but I know this is just the nature of a pregnant woman."

Victoria lowered her head in shame, wrapping her arms around her husband’s neck. "Why are you always so patient with me? I want you to be angry with me. I don’t want you to bottle up your anger just because you feel sorry for me."

"I don’t want to be angry because not all problems can be solved by anger. If I scold you, it will only make things worse." Matthias stroked his wife’s head. "The point is, if anything happens to you, I’ll come straight to you."

"I am very sure that after our child is born, you will be the best father."

"I don’t want you to feel lonely just because I abandoned you. Besides, I miss you so much today."

A beaming smile lit up her tiny face. "Even though we’ve only been apart for a few hours, you already miss me so much."

"Because lately I’ve been craving to accompany you at the office all day."

"Then, I want to ask for your help later."

"What help do you want me to ask for?"

"I’m going shopping at the mall today after work. Would you like to accompany me?"

A weak sigh escaped her lips. "But are you sure you can do it? You looked tired during the meeting just now."

"If I were with you, I wouldn’t feel tired anymore."

"Okay, I’ll stay with you later. But if you get tired, we should go home immediately!"

Today, Matthias acts as Victoria’s personal bodyguard all day. Starting with meetings with the board of commissioners, now he accompanies his wife on her shopping trips to the mall. It’s unclear what she’ll buy, even though she had time to buy baby items on her day off.

As they walked through the department store, he could see his wife’s eyes welling up with tears as she gazed at the collection of women’s dresses suited to slim figures. He could tell what she was thinking. Her thin body, now bloated by the presence of their baby, was no longer able to wear pretty dresses.

"Tory, are you crying?"

Victoria shook her head quickly, rubbing her cheek. "I’m just sleepy."

"You can’t wear all those dresses right now. After you give birth, I’ll buy you more beautiful dresses."

"I’m not upset because I’m ugly. It’s just that I’m not confident right now."

"Victoria! Matthias!" Laura called, waving from a distance.
