Chapter 14 Slander and Defamation

After catching up on sleep, Xia Qingtian felt exhausted. She glanced at her phone and saw it was already nearing noon.

After washing up, she left the bedroom and yawned as she went downstairs, seeing her father, Xia Fu, reading the news on his tablet. She lazily greeted him.

"You haven't been up early for morning exercises in eighteen years. Now that you've finally done it once, you slept until noon upon returning. Perhaps you shouldn't bother with morning exercises next time." Xia Fu looked up at Xia Qingtian with a smile.

Mocked by her own father, Xia Qingtian merely grunted and glanced at Xia Qingyu, who was reading a book nearby.

As expected, Xia Qingyu's eyes met hers for a moment before quickly looking away, appearing a bit awkward.

Just then, Aunt Liu emerged from the kitchen holding a freshly baked cake, smiling as she said, "Your father wanted the servants to wake you for breakfast this morning. Your sister said you were up early for morning exercises, so she didn't let anyone disturb you. Who knew you'd sleep until noon."

Xia Qingtian knew Aunt Liu was explaining for Xia Qingyu, not wanting Xia Qingtian to overthink things and create further distance between them.

If it were the Xia Qingtian of her past life, she might have flipped out by now, or at least made a sarcastic remark even after Aunt Liu's explanation.

However, the current Xia Qingtian knew that Xia Qingyu and Aunt Liu meant no harm to them as father and daughter. She quickly moved past the issue and went to Aunt Liu's side, saying proactively, "This cake looks really good. Is it a rich cheesecake? Give me a big slice."

"See, Qingtian knows good quality," Aunt Liu smiled as she sliced the cake, indeed giving Xia Qingtian the largest piece. She then cut slices for Xia Qingyu and Xia Fu, calling them over to eat.

Xia Fu put his tablet aside and walked over with a smile. Midway, his phone rang.

Xia Fu answered the call, and his smile quickly disappeared. "What? A car accident? Is it serious!"

Hearing Xia Fu's words, Xia Qingtian's beautiful eyes flickered. She put down her fork after taking a bite of cake.

"Alright, I understand. I'm coming over now." Xia Fu hung up the phone, his expression grave.

"What's going on? What car accident?" Aunt Liu frowned and immediately pressed for details.

Xia Fu then recounted the incident of Song Junhan's car accident as he had heard it on the phone to his wife and daughter.

"Was it at the east gate of Xinying Park?" Xia Qingtian asked.

"How did you know?" Xia Fu looked at Xia Qingtian in surprise.

"Dad, I'll go with you." Xia Qingtian didn't answer Xia Fu's question directly. "We were colleagues, after all."

Xia Fu assumed Xia Qingtian might have seen the news on social media and didn't think much of it, nodding in agreement.

Earlier, he had heard from many people at the company that Xia Qingtian was targeting Song Junhan, and many had openly or secretly called Xia Qingtian spoiled and malicious.

However, Xia Fu knew his daughter was the most innocent and pure.

She had a temper, and was a bit spoiled, but she was definitely not a malicious person.

See, upon hearing about Song Junhan's car accident, she immediately went out with him.

If it were just an ordinary employee involved in a car accident, it wouldn't have been reported to Xia Fu. However, Song Junhan's identity was special. The HR manager knew he had some connection with Xia Fu, which was why the call was made to Xia Fu.

When Xia Qingtian and Xia Fu arrived at the hospital, the HR manager and Song Junhan's department manager were already present.

The surgery was complete. The doctor said it was a comminuted fracture of the left arm and a minor concussion, with abrasions on his legs and back. Fortunately, there was no major bleeding, and after timely treatment, there were no other issues. The police said Song Junhan was lucky, as the other party had already braked. Otherwise, the truck would have hit him head-on.

A brush with death.

Xia Qingtian looked at Song Junhan, his eyes closed, his body bandaged, his face pale, lying on the hospital bed. Her expression was blank.

Fortunately, everyone's attention was on Song Junhan, and no one noticed her.

Xia Fu sighed, "Let him rest well. I'll cover his medical expenses from my private account."

"Understood." The HR manager said, as if remembering something, "The police might need to ask a few more questions later."

This car accident also involved criminal offenses. The hit-and-run driver had a prior record for evasion, so the authorities were taking this matter very seriously.

"Junhan!" The door was pushed open abruptly, and a figure rushed in, her face full of panic. The moment her eyes fell upon the person in the hospital bed, she began to weep uncontrollably. Anyone who didn't know would think Song Junhan had passed away. The person rushing in was his intended.

The people in the ward seemed startled, and after their initial surprise, they recognized the girl as Su Wan from the company.

The daughter of Director Su.

Several colleagues from the company followed Su Wan in.

Xia Qingtian watched coldly as the HR manager and those colleagues softly comforted Su Wan, informing her of Song Junhan's condition.

Su Wan then stopped her crying and regained her composure.

Upon seeing Xia Qingtian, Su Wan nearly lost control of her emotions again, but restrained herself after seeing Xia Fu.

Everyone was chattering, and although they tried to keep their voices down, Xia Qingtian still found it somewhat noisy.

It wasn't until the police entered that everyone truly quieted down.

When the police informed them that the account of the driver responsible for the accident had received a deposit of one hundred thousand yuan recently, and they suspected it was an attempted murder-for-hire, Su Wan's emotions finally broke down: "Xia Qingtian! Are you satisfied now!"

Suddenly called out, Xia Qingtian was first taken aback, then gave Su Wan a subtle look.

"Everyone has seen how you treated Song Junhan at the company!" Su Wan looked at Xia Qingtian, her eyes seeming to spew fire. "What? Ordinary harassment wasn't enough for you to vent your anger, so you had to try and kill him before you were satisfied?"

Hearing Su Wan's words, everyone turned their gaze to Xia Qingtian.

At the company, Xia Qingtian had indeed been harassing Song Junhan. One hundred thousand yuan was not a lot for Xia Qingtian. But… would she really hire someone to kill him?

The gazes of the crowd were hesitant.

"Everyone here is saddened and worried by Song Junhan's accident, but you're acting like nothing happened! Even a stranger, after experiencing something so terrifying, would find it hard to remain indifferent. Either you're cold-blooded, or..." Su Wan's words were cut short by Xia Fu.

"Su Wan, you need to speak with evidence." Xia Fu's face immediately darkened upon hearing Su Wan's accusation.

Su Wan pursed her lips, "I don't have evidence now, but I believe the police will find out the truth!"

Everyone examined Xia Qingtian, observing her expression. She did indeed appear rather indifferent, not like someone who had just witnessed a colleague's car accident.
