Chapter 15 Safe Travels

This was an obvious choice. Xia Qingtian was not lacking in gifts worth thirty thousand yuan; having experienced the benefits of adrenaline, she naturally chose option A.

At this moment, the police officer also looked at Xia Qingtian, as if pondering something. Then, as if suddenly remembering, he said, “Miss Xia? It’s you!”

The crime scene had been too dimly lit. Caught off guard, he hadn’t recognized her.

Hearing the officer speak, Su Wan froze. Did he know Xia Qingtian? Was he going to disregard justice?

Just as Su Wan was about to protest, she heard the officer walk towards Xia Qingtian and say, “We were just about to contact you; we didn’t expect you to have arrived already.”

Xia Qingtian also recognized the officer before her. “We meet again. Hello.”

“Qingtian?” Xia’s father looked at Xia Qingtian, his eyes filled with confusion.

“It’s like this, Miss Xia was the one who called the emergency center from the accident scene. That’s why the victim’s life was saved in time. Otherwise, given the situation at the time, severe bleeding or hypothermia could have posed a life-threatening danger.”

The officer’s words completely cleared Xia Qingtian of any suspicion.

“I never expected my first morning jog in eighteen years to involve something like this,” Xia Qingtian said with a bitter smile to her father. “It was still dark, and I didn’t know who was hit. My mind went blank, and I just called the emergency center.”

Xia’s father was also shocked. He only knew that Xia Qingtian had slept all morning after her morning jog and had even mocked his daughter for being too lazy. He never knew she had encountered such an event during her jog.

“But that doesn’t prove you have nothing to do with this case!” Su Wan felt that this matter was somehow related to Xia Qingtian; she just had that feeling.

“There were other eyewitnesses at the time who can vouch for Miss Xia,” the officer said.

“Perhaps she bribed them, or prepared them beforehand. That’s perjury!” Su Wan blurted out without thinking.

The moment she said that, everyone’s expressions soured.

If Su Wan had said this before, they might have actually considered it possible due to Xia Qingtian’s wealth and perceived arrogance and malice.

But now that the police had investigated and cleared Xia Qingtian, Su Wan’s continued accusations made her seem like she was deliberately causing trouble.

“It’s a loss to the national judicial institutions that Miss Su didn’t study law,” Xia Qingtian said with a cold sneer. “To be able to say such things, Director Su really knows how to raise her daughter.”

Hearing Xia Qingtian’s retort, Su Wan’s face flushed red.

“How capable do I have to be to bribe Mr. Gu’s people to provide false testimony for me?” Xia Qingtian’s tone was calm, but her words were like a nuclear bomb dropped onto a calm sea.

Many high-ranking officials were aware of Mr. Gu’s subtle attitude towards the Xia Corporation. Combined with Xia Qingtian’s words, the matter of the “morning jog” became even more perplexing.

However, no one dared to question further in front of Xia’s father.

Even Su Wan wisely shut her mouth, though her eyes darted around, clearly plotting something.

After the police inquired about Song Junhan’s usual condition with the company staff and left, the colleagues also dispersed. The ward grew emptier, and medical staff came in twice.

Just as Xia’s father was about to take Xia Qingtian away, Song Junhan’s eyelids fluttered. He groggily woke up and his eyes fell on Xia Qingtian’s face.

He froze, unsure if it was the anesthetic or sheer terror, but his eyes widened, his lips trembled, and he stammered out two words: “It’s… you…”

“That’s right,” Xia Qingtian flashed a wide smile upon seeing Song Junhan awaken. “I saved you.”

“!” Song Junhan felt like cursing, but his body was completely unresponsive, and his tongue was tied.

“Recover well,” Xia Qingtian leaned slightly forward, gazing into Song Junhan’s eyes, her smile growing more enchantingly eerie. “There’s plenty of time.”

Straightening up, Xia Qingtian continued, “I know you want to thank me. No need to rush. We’ll have plenty of time in the future.”

With a subtle smile, Xia Qingtian left the ward with Xia’s father.

After Xia Qingtian left, Song Junhan twitched a few times, rolled his eyes, and fainted again.

In the car, as they neared the Xia residence, Xia’s father finally asked Xia Qingtian, “Why didn’t you mention encountering the car accident this morning?”

“ I was afraid of frightening you both,” Xia Qingtian said, looking down at her phone while internally checking her system interface and finding a new dose of adrenaline in its slots.

Xia’s father hesitated for a moment before raising his hand and awkwardly ruffling Xia Qingtian’s hair. “It’s alright, it’s all in the past.”

Xia Qingtian stiffened, then looked up at her father. Meeting his concerned eyes, she found her nose suddenly stinging.

In her past life, she had argued with her father his entire life, and they hadn't reconciled before his death.

She had missed so much.

Leaning into her father’s embrace, Xia Qingtian felt him stiffen, as if unused to his daughter’s affection after so many years.

But he quickly recovered, gently placing his arm around Xia Qingtian’s shoulders, a smile appearing on his lips.

“Dad,” Xia Qingtian called out softly.

“Mm?” Xia’s father responded.

“I want to buy a bag.”

“……”

Alright, he knew it!

However, considering the shock Xia Qingtian had experienced, the bag would have to be bought. Xia’s father’s action of transferring money was already very practiced.

Shortly after the father and daughter returned home, Aunt Liu and Xia Qingyu also learned that Xia Qingtian had witnessed a car accident during her morning jog.

Aunt Liu prepared a lavish spread of delicious food to help Xia Qingtian recover from her fright.

Although Xia Qingyu didn’t show much, she presented Xia Qingtian with a protective charm the following Sunday afternoon.

“I… I went to Qi Fu High School for good luck with my studies… and got this for you… no, not got it, it’s a… a freebie.” Xia Qingyu’s tone remained proud, her hands behind her back, her cheeks adorably flushed.

“Safe travels.”

Xia Qingtian flipped the red charm with gold thread in her hand. On the other side, it was embroidered with “Ward off evil, suppress calamity.”

“Still superstitious at such a young age,” Xia Qingtian chuckled.

“Take it or leave it! If you don’t want it, give it back!” The blush on Xia Qingyu’s face instantly spread to her ears, and she reached out to snatch it back.

“Of course, I want it!” Xia Qingtian immediately hid the charm behind her back. “Wait a moment.”

Closing the door, Xia Qingtian returned to her room. When she opened it again, she handed several notebooks to Xia Qingyu. “These are my high school notes. They’ll be much more useful than going to Qi Fu High School for good luck. Here you go.”

With a stack of notebooks in her hands, Xia Qingyu blinked in surprise. Before she could react, she saw Xia Qingtian’s room door close again.

Xia Qingyu pursed her lips, took the notebooks, and went straight back to her bedroom. She casually flipped through one, noticing a few pages with large, simple doodles in the margins. She muttered, “The drawings are really ugly.”

The smile in her eyes, however, was undeniable.
