Chapter 323: Chapter 325: I want to live or die with you!
A soft, sweet whisper of "I’m scared" was all it took for Thomas Shannon to give in.
He pursed his thin lips into a stern line, turning his head slightly to look at her. "It’s very dangerous. Do you still want to tag along?"
Sophie Sullivan felt as if Thomas Shannon had already nodded in agreement. She nodded. "Of course! I want to be with you through thick and thin!"
With a scoff, Thomas Shannon patted her raised buttocks. "Get down."
Unlike the previous stern command, this time, there was an additional word, which implied a totally different meaning.
Sophie Sullivan eagerly slid down from his broad back, gripping the corner of his shirt tightly. "So you’re taking me with you, right?"
"Isn’t the answer already obvious?" Thomas Shannon gave her a look as if she were an idiot.
Sophie Sullivan didn’t mind his disdain. She pressed her lips into a smile. "Then I’ll go wash up now!"
Humming an unfamiliar tune, Sophie Sullivan skipped cheerfully into the bath chamber.
Before leaving, Thomas Shannon still felt uneasy, so he specifically took Sophie Sullivan to see George Stanford to ask for his opinion.
Unexpectedly, they were met with George Stanford’s stern refusal. "Nonsense! This is utter nonsense!"
Sophie Sullivan was speechless.
Thomas Shannon glanced sympathetically at Sophie Sullivan; the meaning in his cold eyes was already perfectly clear.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want her to go, but that George Stanford wouldn’t let her.
After all, she had just undergone surgery and the gauze hadn’t even been removed yet. It was best for her to rest and recuperate quietly.
She cherished this face so much; if anything happened to it en route, no one would be able to save her.
"Old Mr. Standford, can I really not go?"
"The gauze hasn’t been removed, and the wound hasn’t fully healed yet! You dare to board an airplane? Do you even want your face anymore?"
Sophie Sullivan hung her head. "Of course, I want my face, but I don’t want to stay here either..."
For a moment, she found herself in a dilemma.
On one hand, there was the recovery of her precious cheek, which she longed for.
On the other hand, staying by Thomas Shannon’s side was the safest option.
Now, these two priorities conflicted, and she had to choose one.
Sophie Sullivan found it difficult to choose. She remained silent, her head hung so low it nearly touched her chest.
"Isn’t it good to stay in the medical office? I’ll assign someone to guard you 24 hours a day. You don’t need to worry about anything else."
Feeling a twinge of pity in his heart, Thomas Shannon raised his hand and gently patted her head twice, the exact same gesture he used when teasing Harry.
"No, I just want to be with you." There was no hint of petulance in her words.
Instead, she truly understood that only by staying with Thomas Shannon would she be safest; it was the most foolproof choice.
Even if people were assigned to guard her 24 hours a day, if Minimus Hart and Amelia Shaw wanted to harm her, it would be impossible to guard against them completely.
It would be better to leave with him. While she was still in a vulnerable state, she could temporarily distance herself from them.
Later, once her face had completely healed, she would settle scores with them.
George Stanford was practically apoplectic. Pointing his index finger at the tip of her nose, he trembled with anger. "Fiona, oh Fiona! I see you’re one of those people who won’t be convinced until you’re staring disaster in the face! You won’t stay in the perfectly good medical office; you just have to go running around, don’t you? Fine! Go run around if you want! But I’m warning you now: it took every ounce of my skill for this surgery on your face. If, because of your own doing, the situation becomes despicable, then I’m washing my hands of any problems that follow! You can find someone else to fix it for all I care!"
George Stanford’s harsh words were undoubtedly a heavy blow to Sophie Sullivan.
"Old Mr. Standford, are you threatening me?"
"Good. Your wits are still about you; you can actually tell I’m threatening you."
