Chapter 300: Good News, Shocking News
Mo Yuan shook his head as he picked up a steamed bun and asked the soldier, "No. What news?"
The soldiers exchanged glances before another one asked cautiously, "You don’t know that the Great General brought a young lady with him when he left the barracks this morning?"
Mo Yuan’s hand paused in midair for a brief second before he reached for his bowl of porridge. "No," he replied flatly.
At his response, the soldiers looked at one another again, doubt and disbelief clearly shown on their faces.
Finally, one of them spoke up, "Vice General Mo, didn’t General Zhan tell you anything about this young lady’s identity? With his personality, and considering how close the two of you are, he would have told you for sure, right?"
Calmly chewing his steamed bun, Mo Yuan swept his gaze over them. After swallowing his food, he narrowed his eyes and calmly asked, "Is the Great General’s affair something you can discuss so freely? Be careful, or you will lose your tongue."
A chill ran down the soldiers’ spines at his words, and they fell silent immediately.
Mo Yuan glanced over them once more and added, "If you are truly curious, go ask General Zhan yourselves."
Hearing this, the soldiers let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Though Mo Yuan was their vice general, he was far more intimidating than Zhan Qi. Given the choice, they would rather risk pestering Zhan Qi than endure Mo Yuan’s cold rebukes.
While the soldiers were discussing Feng Xiyan and the mysterious young lady, Shen Yi’s phone suddenly rang when he had just finished brushing his teeth. Seeing that the caller was his elder paternal cousin, Shen Xuan, Shen Yi quickly picked up the call.
"Hello, Elder Brother. Why are you calling me so early today?"
Shen Xuan glanced at his watch and replied, "It’s already eight in the morning. Are you still sleeping?"
"No, I’m awake." Shen Yi replied, then noticed a trace of excitement in Shen Xuan’s usually calm voice and asked, "Elder Brother, you sound excited. Did something good happen today? Have you won a lottery or something?"
Shen Xuan glanced at the stacked boxes beside him and said, "Your order was completed this morning. Do you want me to transport it to Fu Cheng Town?"
Shen Yi’s eyes lit up at the news. "Really?! That’s great! Please send it to my shop as soon as possible. I will contact Miss Bai and let her know the good news."
Hearing Shen Yi’s delighted voice, a faint smile crossed Shen Xuan’s lips. "Got it."
After ending the call, Shen Yi immediately dialed Bai Hanyun’s number. But after several attempts, all he got was the same response: the number could not be reached.
Frowning, he thoughtfully stared at his phone. ’Based on our previous transactions, Miss Bai is not the type to break her promise. Could it be... something happened to her?’
After thinking for a moment, he decided to send her a message.
[Miss Bai, the soft metal armor you ordered three days ago is on the way. Should I send it to your warehouse? If you see this message, please contact me as soon as possible.]
When he checked the screen, the message showed as pending, but he noted that Bai Hanyun hadn’t blocked his number.
Tapping the phone case in thought, Shen Yi eventually sighed. "Since I can’t contact Miss Bai, I will just wait for her to contact me."
Shen Yi then set his phone aside, turned on the television, and went to brew a cup of coffee. While the water heated, he returned to the living room to watch the news.
On the screen, a reporter stood before a police blockade and calmly reported, "After last night’s strange car incident, the police have identified the missing victim as the new chairwoman of the Bai Group, Miss Bai Hanyun."
"So far, the investigation is ongoing. However, sources suggest this was not an accident, but an attempted murder. The suspects have not yet been disclosed."
When the broadcast cut to footage of the scorched road, Shen Yi froze in place.
Moments later, he blurted out, "Oh my God! Miss Bai is missing?! No wonder she didn’t answer my call!"
Staring at the incident scene on the screen, Shen Yi’s mind raced.
Before long, his eyes flickered as he muttered, "No, I can’t just sit here doing nothing. Miss Bai must still be alive. I have to find her as soon as possible."
Making his decision, Shen Yi dialed a number and waited anxiously. As soon as the call connected, he said, "Elder Brother, can you help me find someone?"
A deep, calm voice came through the speaker a second later. "Who?"
"My business partner. She was in a car accident last night and is now missing," Shen Yi explained.
Shen Huan paused for a moment before asking, "The chairwoman of the Bai Group is your business partner?"
Shen Yi raised his brows at that. "Yes. Elder Brother, do you know Miss Bai?"
Taking a sip of coffee, Shen Huan replied, "The Shen Group had some business ties with the Bai Group in the past. But after the late Chairman Bai passed away, Bai Yansheng took over, and we stopped all business with the Bai Group.
"Besides, the Bai Group is in turmoil because of this accident right now. Even if I didn’t care, it would be hard not to know."
From his elder brother’s words, Shen Yi could tell that Shen Huan had no real interest in getting involved.
Staring at the television screen, Shen Yi pressed on anxiously. "I don’t care about those complicated matters. Miss Bai is my benefactor. She helped me when I was in my most desperate situation. Now that she is in trouble, I want to return the favor."
He gritted his teeth and asked, "Elder Brother, just tell me. Are you going to help me or not?"
It was rare for Shen Yi to beg him. Even when his business was on the brink of bankruptcy, Shen Yi had never bowed his head to ask for help from their parents or from him.
