Chapter 1766: Chapter 1766: An Uninvited Guest

(Chapter 4)

“I’d rather wash my clothes myself,” Dong Xiaowan said hesitantly, “I’m afraid they’ll ruin my clothes.”

Everyone knew what Dong Xiaowan was worried about.

She was afraid they’d see her little things, so Luo Ziling didn’t insist, allowing Dong Xiaowan to decide for herself.

Tonight, Luo Ziling didn’t teach them acupuncture skill but instead assigned them to continue reading and doing other chores.

After giving these instructions, Luo Ziling was ready to leave. As he prepared to depart, he reminded Ishihara Naka, Xu Zhiyuan, and Dong Xiaowan that he would supervise their behavior following their punishment at any time.

If anyone harbored lucky thoughts, they’d face doubled punishment.

The three dared not say anything and could only agree.

But as Luo Ziling was about to leave, Dong Xiaowan chased after him.

“Mr. Luo, please stop, I have something to say to you!”

Hearing Dong Xiaowan calling him, Luo Ziling stopped his steps. “What’s the matter?”

“Why are you treating me like this?” Dong Xiaowan looked very wronged.

“If you don’t want to be punished again, don’t ask me why, just obediently go back to transcribe the manuscript. Hurry up and finish writing; you should be able to complete the task I assigned you by tomorrow morning.” Luo Ziling kindly advised, “Don’t think that just because you’re somewhat pretty, men will look at you differently. I’ve seen many beauties, and it’s just that; they don’t have more mouths or eyes, so there aren’t so many privileges to enjoy. If you want to prove you’re really great, then show your best side.”

After speaking, Luo Ziling strode away.

Naturally, Dong Xiaowan was furious at Luo Ziling’s words.

Watching Luo Ziling’s departing figure, she almost jumped and cursed him out loud but managed to hold it back.

After Luo Ziling got into the car and left, she angrily cursed under her breath, “What’s so great about being so arrogant. Hmph, just a little more handsome, a little more skilled, a little more proficient in medicine. How dare he ignore this lady’s beauty; I don’t believe he can continue to overlook me. I’ll cling to him, make him fall for me. No one can resist this lady’s charm.”

Once in the car, Luo Ziling instructed the driver, Yang Xiaodong, to head home.

As Yang Xiaodong drove off, he suddenly sneezed.

Followed by another sneeze.

“Someone must be badmouthing me,” Luo Ziling chuckled as he wiped his nose and thought to himself, “I don’t believe it yet if I can’t keep you guys in line. Wait until the Dragon Rise people arrive; you’ll get what’s coming.”

While his mind drifted with random thoughts, Yang Xiaodong suddenly hit the brake hard, stopping the car.

Unprepared, Luo Ziling’s body lurched forward, almost hitting the seat in front.

“What’s going on?” Luo Ziling asked, surprised, looking at the serious face of Yang Xiaodong.

“Someone is blocking the car,” Yang Xiaodong pointed ahead.

When Luo Ziling looked over, his eyes narrowed.

But he immediately recognized who it was.

Without asking much, he promptly pushed open the car door and got out, walking towards the person blocking the car.

“You finally came,” Luo Ziling smiled as he stood in front of the middle-aged man, “A few days later than we expected.”

The middle-aged man questioned Luo Ziling, “Did you just go to the Dragon Rise sanatorium?”

“I haven’t had dinner yet, oh, I did eat, but haven’t had supper. A father coming to see his son, treating him to a supper should be fine, right?” Luo Ziling smiled brightly, “I shouldn’t have gone to see my mom, and your dad, right?”

The person blocking the car was Luo Ziling’s father, Luo Xusheng. Although Luo Ziling didn’t know why Luo Xusheng would stop their car halfway, he knew his father was surely planning something.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t ask about it right away.

Yang Xiaodong and Wang Zhenjun also got out of the car, and as they walked towards Luo Xusheng, they stood straight.

“Boss!” Though they didn’t salute, standing on the street, they were as straight as soldiers, their expressions serious.

Luo Xusheng nodded at them and smiled, which was rare.

“Let’s find a place for supper; I haven’t had dinner yet,” Luo Xusheng agreed to Luo Ziling’s request.

Thus, the four of them found a relatively quiet cafe nearby.

Yang Xiaodong and Wang Zhenjun just joined in for a bit while Luo Xusheng ate something and then went outside.

The father and son certainly had important matters to discuss, which they couldn’t interrupt.

“Tell me about today, what happened after you went to the Dragon Rise sanatorium.” Luo Xusheng wasn’t great at talking to people, and this was true even with his son, Luo Ziling.

After Luo Ziling nodded, he roughly recounted what Li Haiyang told him and some things that happened afterward. After listening, Luo Xusheng remained silent.

Luo Ziling didn’t press and focused on eating.

“The competition for the person in charge of Dragon Rise is intense. Li Haiyang recommended me; some big shots in the military recommended others. I don’t have strong support right now.” Luo Xusheng softly said after at least five minutes of silence, “Some people want to create trouble and sling mud at Li Haiyang and us, father and son.”

“I know that,” Luo Ziling nodded, “Li Haiyang and Phoenix both warned me. However, your advantage is also significant; Li Haiyang directly recommends you, and grandfather seems to support you.”

“He can’t openly support me, at most, he won’t oppose.” Luo Xusheng sighed softly.

Luo Ziling understood who Luo Xusheng meant by “him” and acknowledged what Luo Xusheng said; it was indeed the case.

Ling Mingrui probably wouldn’t make his intentions known directly; what he could do was merely not oppose.

His willingness to let Luo Xusheng return to Yanjing for a position was already a remarkable change, but expecting him to directly manage this matter was unrealistic.

Besides, considering his status, managing such things would be making much ado about nothing.

“But he can give a heads-up to the military people; that shouldn’t be excessive,” Luo Ziling laughed, “Regarding this, we shouldn’t worry. My mom surely thought about it. I think the Fang Family shouldn’t object to your return to Yanjing; the most likely opposition might come from the Yang Family and the Chen Family. Now I’m treating Yang Yuanshan and Yang Qingye; if we bring this topic up to Yang Yuanshan now, he probably won’t strongly object, right? If he and the entire Yang Family can keep quiet, the problem won’t be big.”

“I’m back to talk to Li Haiyang face to face; schedule a meeting with him, so we can meet privately.”

“Sigh,” Luo Ziling sighed, “I should have arranged to meet him face to face before going to the sanatorium. Now, I’ll have to find another way. By the way, Grandpa said when you come, the three of us should meet the two old gentlemen of the Ling Family.”

Unexpectedly, Luo Xusheng shook his head, “I think it would be better not to meet them.”

“Why not?”
