"The Scroll of Rivers and Mountains?" I blurted out.
Zheng Shuxuan nodded. I couldn't help but ask, "How did you know Guan Zhenwan was looking for the Scroll of Rivers and Mountains?"
She smiled and said, "When you're looking for something, you naturally have to be fully prepared. After extensive investigation, I found the connection between the Scroll of Rivers and Mountains and her family's affairs."
It made sense. With her resources, finding such information wouldn't be difficult.
As we were chatting, Fatty suddenly discovered something and called me over.
Fatty had found a flat map on the wall, which detailed the entire underground construction.
According to the map, the underground facility where we were located was truly enormous, qualifying as a massive military fortress.
It was equipped with everything: warehouses, armories, barracks, rest areas, observation rooms, command centers, armored vehicle garages, and more.
Not only that, but the place was divided into two levels, meaning there was another floor beneath where we stood.
Looking at the complex structure on the map, Fatty asked, "Xiang Ye, how big is this place?"
I was unsure, but Yang Han stepped forward and said, "Judging by the lines on the map, this place is at least several hundred square kilometers."
"Several hundred square kilometers?" Fatty clicked his tongue. "Damn it, what were the little Japs trying to do by digging such a huge underground base here? Just to hide treasure?"
I said, "It was probably more than just hiding treasure; they likely built this base to counter the Soviet army. But before they could use it, the little Japs surrendered unconditionally."
"How much manpower and resources would it take to build a place like this?" Fatty asked.
No one could answer that question.
After all, in those circumstances, to build such a massive underground base, the little Japs had probably killed countless civilians.
Given the little Japs' modus operandi, they were ruthless in achieving their goals, otherwise, they wouldn't have committed so many heinous crimes.
"Since we have a map, this should be easier," Fatty said. "Can we find the Kanto Army's treasure soon?"
I stared at the map on the wall for a while and said, "Not necessarily. With so many rooms, who knows where they hid the items?"
"We could start by searching the warehouses," Fatty suggested. "There's a high chance they hid the items in the warehouses."
I glanced at Zheng Shuxuan and Yang Han. Seeing that they had no objections, I said, "Alright, let's head out after Boss Guan gets some rest."
After Guan Zhenwan recovered, I changed her dressing again. She had a gash on her calf, which had scabbed over but still looked concerning.
After all, in this underground environment, any wound could lead to tetanus.
However, she didn't seem to mind, her mind solely focused on the treasure.
After resting, I asked Fatty to carefully take down the map from the wall. Then, our group proceeded towards the warehouse according to the map.
We encountered no dangers within the underground fortress, and with the map in hand, we reached the warehouse's location after about an hour of travel.
Along the way, we saw quite a few large cannons and missiles, but they seemed unusable.
After being left for so long and without maintenance, these items were now just scrap metal.
However, what was strange was that we didn't find any corpses along the way.
A facility this large, and not a single corpse, was quite odd.
The smaller underground facility we had visited earlier had quite a few bodies, but this place was clean to an uncanny degree.
If not for the ubiquitous dust, I would have thought someone had been active here just yesterday.
"Is this the warehouse?" Fatty asked, pointing at a sign hanging by the iron door.
The metal sign bore the Japanese characters for "Warehouse," and according to the map, it should be this place.
The iron door was locked, but fortunately, with Yang Han, the lock-picking expert, it didn't take much effort to open it.
Pushing the door open, we found it packed with an incredible amount of goods, densely filled with all sorts of supplies.
Many of the supplies were still sealed, clearly never having been opened.
Fatty casually pried open a box with his shovel. Inside were many toothbrushes and canned goods.
"Xiang Ye, can these canned goods still be eaten?" Fatty asked, picking up a can.
I took it and glanced at it. It was canned tuna. "What? Are you hungry?"
"Not really hungry, just asking."
"Logically, these military-grade canned goods have a long shelf life. If you're not worried about an upset stomach, they should still be edible," I said.
Fatty smacked his lips. "Better not then..."
With that, Fatty proceeded to open a few more wooden crates, finding gas masks and other items I couldn't identify. He grabbed anything he could carry.
I asked him if he was preparing to set up a stall at Panjiayuan.
He said, "You know, Xiang Ye, if these things could be brought out and sold at Panjiayuan, they'd be hot commodities. Look at the workmanship of this overcoat, it's not bad at all..."
I chided him, "Can you have some ambition? If we find the Kanto Army's treasure, even one item could fetch an astronomical price."
Hearing this, Fatty grinned. "You're right. How could I forget? We're here to find treasure this time!"
Since entering the warehouse, only Fatty and I were rummaging through these crates. The others had moved further in, not even glancing at these boxes.
Just as we were about to move forward, with a "ding," the fluorescent lights overhead suddenly flickered on.
It turned out Yang Han had found the backup power switch. With the lights on, everything in the place was illuminated.
I must say, this warehouse was truly massive. Just to walk around it, I estimated it would take at least half an hour.
Yang Han and Zheng Shuxuan went together towards the north. Guan Zhenwan, limping, headed east without waiting for Fatty and me.
Fatty and I watched as the three of them went in different directions, so we decided to explore the immediate vicinity.
Soon, Fatty found a pile of metal boxes. We initially thought they might contain something valuable, but upon opening them, we discovered they were all firearms.
These firearms were coated in oil and looked brand new. Fatty casually picked up a submachine gun. "Xiang Ye, have you ever used this thing?"
I shook my head. I hadn't even seen one before, let alone used it.
Fatty grinned. "My grandpa used to have one. I often played with it when I was a kid, but it was confiscated later. This thing is no joke; it was very popular in the past... Just pull back the bolt, load a magazine, and a burst from this thing has incredible power!"
