Chapter 153: No Marital Difficulty Lasts Longer than a Day
Yvonne had made this trip with the intention to bring Zachary back home.
So she had psyched herself up during the drive.
She decided to play the meek and obedient wife during her upcoming meeting with Zachary, no matter how sulky he was.
She knew that he meant no harm.
With this thought in mind, Yvonne arrived at the president’s office.
Because of her absent-mindedness, she pushed the door open without knocking and entered.
The moment she opened the door, the two people inside the office and Yvonne instantaneously froze.
Yvonne stared incredulously at the woman only a few feet away from Zachary.
The woman was clad in professional attire, presumably an employee of the Leinster Group.
Wearing a wrap-around skirt and a white blouse, the woman had the upper buttons of her blouse undone, revealing her deep cleavage.
"I..... I’m sorry. I forgot to knock. I’ll step outside and give you some privacy."
Yvonne’s mind had not accepted what she saw, so she did not suspect Zachary or feel upset.
What she was feeling now was shock!
She thought, "That woman’s boobs are fucking huge!"
Feeling faintly dizzy, she made for the door, intending to leave.
Zachary’s face darkened. "Stop right there!"
Yvonne stopped dead in her tracks.
"You, get out. You’re fired,"
Zachary said to the woman who had thrown herself at him.
Having realized that not only had her plan to sleep her way to a higher position fallen through, but she was also about to lose her job, the woman promptly burst into tears. "Mr. Leinster, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Getting this job hasn’t been easy for me..."
She had heard that Zachary Leinster was not dating anybody, that he had feelings for the daughter of the Taylor family’s patriarch, but the latter had rejected him. This was the version of the story that most outsiders knew about. After all, in Yvonne’s
last incarnation, the whole city was aware that she had indeed rejected him.
However, nobody knew that Yvonne was not the same person she used to be.
This woman had thought that since Zachary preferred girls like Yvonne, he must also have an appetite for beauties with curvy figures and he was as visual as the next man.
All men were visual and their sexual desires could easily get the better of them. There was no doubt Mr. Leinster also had physical needs!
So, when she had heard that Zachary would be staying in the company for the next few days, she had immediately decided to seize the opportunity.
"Out."
Zachary had an extremely ugly look on his face.
Eventually, the woman had no choice but to, embarrassedly buttoning up her blouse and weeping, trudged out.
And Yvonne was watching from start to finish. How disgraceful!
There were only two people left in the office.
At this time, it was a little late, and all those in the building who had to work overtime tonight had gone home. Zachary didn’t want to go home.
"Something wrong?" he asked.
"No.... It’s just.... You weren’t home, and I decided to come and get you back."
Yvonne’s trump card was to put it explicitly. She never beat around the bush, and there was nothing Zachary could do about it.
"Home?"
"Yeah," Yvonne said.
"Does it really matter much to you if I go home or not?"
"Of course it does!" Yvonne replied. "No marital difficulty lasts longer than a day. Although we’re not a married couple yet, we’re living together, and you can’t just go somewhere else and leave me in that house alone because of a minor disagreement!"
Zachary’s eyes lit up for no reason when he heard her words.
No marital difficulty lasts longer than a day...
Did this mean that she already thought they were like a couple?
"You got blotto last night and I saw you with another man. I forbade you to go into the show business, and yet you still went to the recording studio this morning.
"Did it cross you mind we were living under the same roof when you individualistically went out this morning?"
"I..."
Yvonne was rendered somewhat speechless.
"I didn’t remember any of that. You said you didn’t want me to enter the show business last night?"
...
She got drunk last night. She remembered quarreling with Zachary, but couldn’t recall any details.
Zachary’s face was sullen.
He thought, "So she didn’t remember my words?"
Yvonne pressed her lips together.
"But to be a singer is my dream, and I’ll be very unhappy if you deny me the chance to realize it."
The atmosphere became awkward.
If neither of them was willing to make concessions, their conversation would reach a dead end.
"But we can discuss this. We may sign an agreement about things like what I can or cannot do."
In this incarnation, Zachary was an unapproachable bigot, but he still doted on Yvonne. However, he was amenable to friendly persuasion but not to compulsion.
Now that Yvonne had put it this way, he didn’t want to let her down.
"It’s okay if you wanna enter the show business, but I have some conditions."
Yvonne blinked, "What kind of conditions?"
"No more business dinners, no drinking, no smoking, no bed scenes, or nude scenes, or kissing scenes, and no sexually explicit songs."
Yvonne, "..."
"Well, these are quite some conditions, but I think they’re fairly acceptable."
"I’m glad to hear that."
"But when I said I wanted to enter the show business, I wasn’t joking. I really meant it!" Yvonne added, "I wanna be a superstar!"
Zachary raised his eyes to look at her.
There was no denial from him, and neither was there mockery. His silence deterred Yvonne somewhat.
However, just as she was about to open her mouth to say something, Zachary said, "Then I’ll make you one."
The next day, Zachary took Yvonne to the mall.
Yvonne had been expelled from the school, but her career had started.
Her goal in this world was to change Zachary back to who he was supposed to be
and, while she was at it, enjoy the one thing that she hadn’t been able to do in the real world - singing.
As for academic knowledge, it wasn’t the ultimate goal she wanted to achieve here.
After all, she would have to return to her real life sooner or later.
In the mall.
Walking side by side with Zachary, Yvonne asked, "What did you bring me here for?"
She glanced around and found that all the stores in the vicinity were selling women’s clothes. Yvonne said, "I don’t need more clothes."
"How could you become a superstar when you don’t even have any decent attire? Start picking."
With that, he led her into a lavish designer shop which provided customized service.
A female celebrity’s clothing was different from that of common girls. Clothes for everyday life were supposed to be comfortable, gracious and pretty, but garments for a female celebrity had to be extravagant, fancy and outshine other people’s.
Yvonne looked at the row of clothes in front of her, every one of which was worth over 15,000 dollars. Though expensive, they were indeed gorgeous, much more good-looking than common attire.
"They also have fine jewelry here. You should buy some as well."
"Jewelry ... I think I’ll pass. I’ve recorded only one song, I still have a long way to go before I become a superstar. For the moment, I don’t need such things," Yvonne said honestly.
Zachary tossed her a glance and said, "No matter whether it’s a star or Mrs. Leinster you’re to become, you need some jewelry to make your identity convincing, don’t you think?"
Yvonne, "..."
"Don’t worry. They won’t cost much. To help you realize your dream, I’ve specially founded a talent agency. These things are nothing compared to that."
Yvonne, "???"
She had thought that Zachary had said "no business dinners, no drinking" with tongue in cheek. It surprised her that he was taking it seriously! He had even specially founded a talent agency for her!
Only when he became her immediate superior would he had peace in mind.
Otherwise, someone might try to get Yvonne drunk again as those men had done the other day.
At the prospect of some man might try to get Yvonne drunk, Zachary had decisively founded a talent agency for her without a second thought.
"Well, okay." She clenched her teeth. "I’ll pick some, and I swear I’ll become a superstar and earn back the money you spent on me!" she said determinedly through gritted teeth.
...
However, her words had barely left her lips than she regretted it.
Because those things that Zachary wanted her to buy were...
They were insanely expensive!
Yvonne never stinted on clothing. In fact, she was somewhat spendthrift.
But this place that Zachary had brought her to was very high-end. There was hardly anything worth less than 15,000 dollars in this store. Therefore, she was very cautious when picking clothes.
It struck her that she should buy a dress today, and some accessories at the most.
As a result, though several dresses took her fancy, she was dithering over which one of them to buy.
Having noticed that she had dawdled for quite a while, Zachary promptly said to the saleswoman behind him,
"This, this, and this one, and the three she’s holding, and the shoes she just tried on, I’ll take them all."
Astounded, Yvonne nearly dropped the clothes in her hand.
Even celebrities only wore this kind of clothing when attending a top-notch event or walking the carpet, okay?! Besides, such expensive clothes were provided by the brands, and even a superstar didn’t own many clothes of this kind, but Zachary was buying them all as though they were groceries.
"What are you doing? I don’t need so many!"
"You’re wasting time," Zachary said impatiently. Then he told the saleswoman, "I’ll take everything she tried on."
The saleswoman’s eyes widened in shock too.
The instant Zachary had walked inside, she had come to know that he was loaded, but now it seemed that his wealthiness was beyond her wildest imagination.
"Sir, the clothes we sell are made of special materials, and once you buy them, you won’t be able to return or exchange them for any reason, so maybe you should give this lady some more time to consider," said the saleswoman cautiously. Having been working in this store for quite some time, she had seen generous men before, but never once had she met a man so generous to a woman.
"It’s okay," said Zachary. "If she doesn’t like any of them, she could just hang them in the wardrobe." With that he looked at Yvonne. "There are many clothes in your wardrobe, but most of them have barely been taken out."
Yvonne thought speechlessly, "I came to this life to help you overcome what’s been haunting your mind, not to have a vacation, so stop complaining."
"Well, I’ll wear them in the future, but you really don’t have to buy me so many."
Instead of making a reply to her, Zachary shifted his gaze to a row of black and white designer clothes nearby. He pointed at a couple of white evening dresses and said, "The five white dresses in the middle, bring them here so she could try them on."
He had seen her dressing in white at the launch event the other day, and she had looked gorgeous.
Moreover, on that day, they had tongue-kissed each other for the first time. For Zachary, his memory of Yvonne dressing in white was a pleasant one.
But Yvonne was stunned as she heard him say that he was going to buy five.
How long it would take her to repay all that money? Would the money she made by singing for a year be enough to cover the expenses?
Yvonne said, "You’re buying them all? Are you sure about this?" She became somewhat wary. Was this guy setting some kind of trap for her? Would he threaten her if she couldn’t repay the money?
"Are you rejecting me?"
"I’d never dare."
In the other life, when they had been married, Zachary had been quite generous in the real life as well, but apparently, in this incarnation, he was much more extreme! The reason why he was squandering money like this was no doubt because of the terribly traumatic experience.
And if she refused, his condition would worsen further, and he would be more extreme!
Since he wanted to squander money on her, she might as well let him do it to his heart’s content!
"I’m sinning."
Yvonne was repenting inwardly.
He would never have done such things in reprisal had she not been that unkind to him previously.
