Chapter 154: Another Viper Trying to Break Us Up
Having no alternative, Yvonne resignedly began to try those dresses on one by one. Though feeling hot from changing clothes repeatedly, she did not dare say anything for fear of offending Zachary.
Meanwhile.
After Yvonne began to try on those dresses, Zachary leisurely walked into the area where the jewelry was.
He wanted to pick out some women’s jewelry for her.
The sales clerks, having seen how rich and generous he was, raced to recommend jewelry to him, but none of their recommendations took his fancy.
The sales clerks mistakenly believed that he, having just bought 150,000 dollars’ worth of clothes, was now on a tight budget. After all, a piece of clothing here was worth about 15,000 dollars, but a piece of jewelry was several times more expensive.
Having realized that they were not getting a chance to improve their performance from him, all the sales clerks stopped pitching products.
But then Zachary asked a question that gave them a great shudder.
"Do you have anything a bit pricier around here?"
The sales clerks were dumbfounded.
They began to exchange incredulous glances.
They had just recommended to him a necklace priced over 40,000 dollars! That, together with the bracelet and the ring, were worth over 150,000 dollars in total. Something a bit pricier? Even these things didn’t count as pricey in his eyes?
The store owner was the first to react.
"Sir, what we just recommended to you were relatively popular designs. If you want something pricier, you may take a look at our high-end customized series."
"Bring me the pamphlet," Zachary said concisely.
"Okay, sir. Would you like to go have a seat in our VIP room and wait for a minute? I’ll get the pamphlet for you right away."
"That won’t be necessary. I’ll just wait here for my girlfriend."
Purchasing this kind of extravagances was a frequent occurrence for Zachary. It was not that he went shopping very often or that he had extravagant tastes in clothing. Though he seldom visited shopping malls, luxury brands like these specially sent their employees to deliver all kinds of new styles, garments and pamphlets to him for him to choose. In other words, he didn’t even have to visit any shopping malls. People would deliver the products to his office for him to pick.
So he didn’t care about VIP rooms or VIP services. He preferred to stand there taking
his pick.
"Okay." The store owner nodded repeatedly and then hastened to have a sales clerk bring Zachary a picture book to let him pick jewelry.
Yvonne was wearing a white evening dress when she walked out of the fitting room, a fishtail-styled one, simple but not boring. It provided a perfect foil for her curvy figure.
Zachary nodded. "It kind of makes you look maturer than you are, but it’s pretty nice. We’ll take it."
"And this one."
"And this one."
He bought several other dresses in succession, and Yvonne finally lost her cool.
"Zachary!"
Zachary was just about to have the sales clerk wrap up the fourth dress when Yvonne interrupted him.
"Don’t buy me any more dresses, okay? I’ve done some calculation. Even if my new album gets popular and I sell a lot of records, I’ll probably still have to give you all the money I earn in the next year to cover the cost of these dresses." Having noticed that he showed no inclination to relent, Yvonne began to play cute.
"Please!"
Zachary might not care about the high prices, but she did.
However, Zachary was unswayed.
"It’s okay. You may take anything you want."
"I’m stressed out."
"There’s no need to feel pressured."
"I don’t want anything else!" Yvonne said earnestly. She had thought that Zachary had not checked the jewelry yet, so she decided to buy some clothes first. It struck her that these clothes were enough to last her several years, that she wouldn’t feel the need to buy clothes for three years. Of course, she was unsure as to whether or not she would stay in this world for that long.
"All right," Zachary said. Yvonne turned around and was just about to leave when a sardonic voice came from behind her.
"Eek? What a small world.
"Zachary Leinster is doing shopping with the famous Yvonne Taylor. Are you short of pocket money because of your disagreement with your parents?"
Yvonne did not know the speaker. He was tall and fairly handsome, but every piece of his clothing bore a conspicuous logo. He would probably have let the logo on his
socks showing if it were an option. Yvonne could tell at a glance that he was a no-good fop.
"Who are you?" Yvonne asked sourly.
"You’ve forgotten me already?
"The other day, when we were drinking, I hit on you and you swore you wouldn’t marry anybody but Jordan Yale, not even Zachary Leinster." With that, the foppish rich boy guffawed. After a glance at Zachary whose face was somewhat sepulchral, he added, "I can’t believe you eat your words so fast."
...
Yvonne had long since forgotten who this man was.
But judging from his words, he was very likely someone she had met when drinking at a business dinner.
Yvonne found the man a real nuisance. She was shopping with Zachary, but this man just showed up and accosted her, trying to drive a wedge between her and Zachary. She had an urge to slap his face.
Zachary had begun to trust her lately, and now someone was bringing up her past again, which would evoke those unpleasant memories of Zachary’s. Chances were that his attitude towards her would change again.
Yvonne felt Zachary’s penetrating gaze on her back, which made her rather uneasy.
Predictably, Zachary was angered again. If he kept being angry, she might not be able to return to the real world.
Teeth clenched, Yvonne eyed the stupid man indignantly.
"I can go out with whoever I want. What’s it got to do with you, huh? You know, no good ever comes out of being an interfering busybody."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," the man chuckled. "It seems you’ve grown a lot of balls since you started dating a rich guy. No wonder even Jordan Yale, a bastard son, considers you beneath him. You seriously think Zachary Leinster would develop feelings for you when even Jordan Yale thinks you’re not worthy of him?
"He would probably have long since dumped you if he knew how you used to prostitute yourself in those bars!"
"Why don’t you say that again?"
Yvonne was a fun-seeker and used to have a lot of unsavory "friends", but she had never done anything immoral.
As for the accusation of her being a whore, it was arrant slander!
Such slander was fatal to a girl’s reputation!
This stupid man’s accusation was nothing but sour grapes. Having failed to get Yvonne to date him, he was trying to destroy her by throwing mud at her. He had once chased after Yvonne, but she had rejected him in a rather humiliating way. And now, face to face with her and her boyfriend Zachary Leinster who was a much more decent man, he was bitterly jealous and indignant.
"Hey, Mr. Leinster, do you know how sluttish she used to be? That was... tsk, tsk. Everybody knows about it. Several of my drinking friends fucked-"
Slap!
Yvonne slapped his face hard. The man let out a pained cry and went berserk.
"How dare you hit me?!" he raged, lunging at Yvonne.
But before he could touch so much as the hem of Yvonne’s blouse, Zachary gave him a kick which sent him flying.
Face cold, Zachary summoned the security guards on duty at the front gate. "He tried to start a brawl in a public place. Take him to the police station!" "Yes."
The stupid man had thought that Zachary was just having a dalliance with her, that he would never resorted to violence on account of her.
For quite a while, he lay on the ground feeling dizzy. On hearing that they were taking him to the police station, he was astounded.
"The police station? Who would I go to the police station?! I didn’t do anything! She hit me!"
"Because you deserved it,"
Zachary remarked. Then he even took a step forward and stamped on the man’s shin.
The man instantly let out an anguished cry. "AAAARGH!"
Not only did he deserve a beating, but Zachary had an impulse to kill him!
Like a psychopath, Zachary enjoyed the sight of the distressed look on the man’s face which was contorting in pain.
"Remember, your filthy mouth is not fit to utter the name Yvonne!
"If you dare slander my future wife again and I find out, you’ll have to pay with your life!"
"Okay! Okay! I-I’m sorry!" The man did not dare say anything else, his face was whitish blue with anguish.
But Yvonne was still angry.
Of course she was still angry!
This man had not only tried to make mischief but also smeared her, accusing her of being a hooker!
Maybe he had slanderously told a lot of people that she used to be a prostitute!
Yvonne gave the man a kick as well and said, "Go to the police station and introspect about your behavior. After that, you are to tell the truth to every one of those to whom you’ve spread the rumors, or I’ll sue your irresponsible ass off!"
She had wondered why she had such a bad reputation in her previous incarnation. All those people seemed quite polite to her. It turned out that the existence of people like this guy was the reason!
Those double-faced bastards!
