Chapter 144: Creating magic

The accumulation of mass in terrestrial form takes many shapes. From many small grams joined together to form a sandpit and used for certain types of attacks, to a rock, a mountain, something incredibly solid and difficult to break.

In addition, the most peculiar thing about earth is that many secondary elements are derived from it, such as wood, etc.

This makes studying earth magic complicated, but Louis didn’t have as many problems as Hardrial expected. In fact, he found it easier than other types of magic. He didn’t even know why, but everything he learned during classes and then in his professional life on earth served as a springboard for understanding it all.

"And to think I believed that much of that information would be of no use to me." Louis scoffed at this thought, but he took his learning seriously, as learning about this magic was indispensable for future defense.

Considering that they are not very good at defense, being Armamentalists, they needed to delve much deeper into this magic.

While learning about magic, Louis realized several things. The first is that being a pure mage, according to the grimoires, was not so different from being an Armamentalist.

In fact, he realized that perhaps being an Armamentalist was much better. They took advantage of many of the benefits of being a mage, they could even fly with advanced flight magic, as these spells did not need anything specific to activate them other than a magical catalyst, and the weapons they used were a type of magical catalyst.

The thing is, thanks to the peculiarity of the bullets and the internal mechanism of firearms, these spells come out with a great deal of penetration damage and ultimately activate, releasing all the sustained magical damage they have, although not as powerful as what a wizard can cast.

There is no magic that a mage can use that they cannot use, with the exception of healing magic, but that is very special. There are not many healing mages in the world, so it is not something that any mage out there can cast.

Generally, people only use alchemy and potions to recover. This is not magic, it is alchemy, and alchemy is simply an extensive study of the energy of plants and other raw materials that nature itself gives us and that are formed thanks to the threads of the Weave that crosses the world.

So, how does a real wizard differ from an armamentist? Only in the level of compression of magic. That is, how compressed is the magic?

The armamentist will always win in penetration power because the magic is extremely compressed into a small bullet and because it is fired with greater force.

Meanwhile, the mage will always win in terms of area coverage. Since they cannot compress it too much, they tend to use large spells. For example, there are mages capable of casting fireballs large enough to wipe out an entire city.

It would be difficult, depending on the mage, but it can be done. That makes them a mage of mass destruction, as there are even mages who could destroy an entire empire.

Meanwhile, an Armamentalist could kill that same mage with a single shot. No matter how much mana you have or how big your spells are, the Armamentalist was created to kill.

Now, the peculiar thing about this is that an Armamentalist depends on his weapon, but he is not tied to a single weapon.

His magic, as a rule, will always be compressed, but what if an Armamentalist invents nuclear weaponry? Wouldn’t that also be a weapon of mass destruction?

Having learned the four elements, Louis realized that this was not so far-fetched to achieve.

In fact...

"It would be a Final Attack," he thought.

While it might require a much larger weapon, it would have the penetrating damage of an Armamentalist and the mass destruction of a mage.

In such circumstances, an Armamentalist was much better than a mage. But that also had to be taken with a grain of salt.

While such an attack would be a Final Attack for an Armamentalist, for a mage it would only be a casual attack with more magical power than usual.

There were advantages and disadvantages to both groups, but the problem was that the path of an Armamentalist had barely been explored. It might even be better than Louis thought, so he could only draw minor conclusions at this point.

Even so, he wanted to test it out; he wasn’t going to be left wondering in this case, so he decided to have Lord Gon make a new weapon.

The hours passed without incident. During the first day, Louis learned basic earth magic and laid the foundation for the future, but he didn’t have time to continue learning these, so he decided to learn level 2 wind magic.

Although he tried level 3 spells, he gave up easily when he realized that they were a waste of time for now. He would learn them later.

"Why don’t you want to learn level 3 magic?" Hardrial asked, sitting down next to him.

Louis looked up from the grimoire and looked at him. "Why do you think I don’t want to learn it?"

"I’ve been watching you, and when you look at level 3 spells, there’s no confusion in your eyes. You can understand them and comprehend very well what they do. That makes me wonder, why don’t you want to learn higher-level spells if you already master them mentally?"

Louis smiled. "You’re very observant, Professor."

"If I weren’t, I wouldn’t be a professor at the Royal Academy."

"Hahaha, I’m afraid the other professors will be embarrassed by your abilities."

Hardrial replied with a smile. "So? Will you tell me?"

Louis sighed.

"I’m trying to create magic," he said.

"Create?" Hardrial frowned. He was confused for several seconds, until something clicked in his mind.

"You..." Astonished, he pointed at him. "Have you been studying high-level weaving so you can understand what I’m telling you about lower-level magic coming from a higher level?" he asked in shock.

"Hehe, yes. I haven’t had much success so far, but I think I understand a little," said Louis. He grabbed a brush and made a weave with ink on paper.

It was very easy to do, although it took longer than when done intentionally.

"This is one of the level 3 ones you’ve been showing me, right?"

"Yes." Hardrial confirmed and waited patiently for what he had to say.

The weave was considerably larger than any basic one. In fact, the basic ones now seemed like child’s play compared to this weave.

Then Louis smiled and created another weave with ink.

"This is one of my creations. I haven’t tested it yet, so I don’t know if it works, but it makes a lot of sense. I made it like this..." He began to slowly explain the threads chosen for each formation, the logic he believed each part would have, and finally, the overall magical logic.

That is, what would form the magic.

It was an earth-type magic that created a layered earth stake. It could be compressed quite a bit from its formulation and worked like a bullet, so putting it inside a bullet could make it more powerful.

It is a small magic, but with damage scaled at a ratio of 50-20-30, starting with powerful damage and ending with medium damage. This is not very useful, but he did it this way so that he could have variations and also to be able to explain it in its base state.

He thought of everything, recalling the complications he had encountered at the beginning when training with water bullets down there. Thanks to this, he managed to formulate the entire logic behind this magic and gave each thread a function.

Hardrial was stunned by what he was saying. A bullet like that would be interesting to create, so he didn’t hesitate for a second to start studying it and then tried to replicate it.

It was a level 2 magic, so he had no trouble learning and formulating it.

In a few minutes, it was ready and in his hand. It had come out with some imperfections, but that was normal for new magic that needed to be perfected, but the essence was still there.

The damage distribution remained intact, as did its hardness and power.

"You’ve really created a spell..." Hardrial couldn’t be more shocked, staring at the small bullet in his hand.

This could give any normal mage absurd magical penetration, without relying on a gun. But it would turn an Armamentalist into a true killing machine.

Although it was low level, thanks to the high mass compression, it had a penetration capacity of level 3 or 4 magic.

"It never occurred to me to create them like this," he thought.

Although Louis didn’t expect Hardrial to decide to create it, he felt incredibly happy to see it form correctly in the hands of an expert.

"It really is like that." Louis smiled. "Could you throw it with your hand towards that rock?" he asked, pointing to the spot.

"It will be slowed down by the wind. I don’t have enough power with my hand," he said and thought about taking out his gun, but Louis insisted.

"Use your hand, professor. I have to see if the mass distribution is correct or if it should be changed," he declared.
