Chapter 223: Chapter 223: Are You Questioning Me? (Part 1)
Aidan Lynch felt a chill down his back and said to Raina North with a serious face, "Apothecary North, you really should not have done that."
Upon hearing this, Chloe Jarvis shook again, strutting like a peacock showing off.
See? Even Special Assistant Lynch from The Hawthorne Consortium is standing up for her.
Aidan Lynch smiled faintly and continued, "How could you only slap one side of the face when hitting someone? It’s not symmetrical, not aesthetically pleasing at all. Truly shouldn’t have done that."
The crowd was stunned upon hearing this.
Chloe Jarvis was even more incredulous, stammering, "Special Assistant Lynch, did you say something wrong?"
"Did I speak?" Aidan Lynch said flatly, "These are the words of our President Hawthorne. If Apothecary Jarvis didn’t understand, then I’ll repeat it. My President Hawthorne says, ’Apothecary North, you really shouldn’t have done that; how could you only hit one side of the face? It’s not symmetrical and certainly not aesthetically pleasing.’
Chloe Jarvis was completely shocked, "No, impossible. How could President Hawthorne notice someone like me? He couldn’t have said that."
"At least you have some self-awareness," Aidan Lynch said calmly, "Normally, with someone as insignificant as you, President Hawthorne wouldn’t even bother to glance your way. But you insisted on jumping around to show off your existence; reluctantly, President Hawthorne had to pay you some attention."
Chloe Jarvis was speechless.
Aidan Lynch, feeling unsatisfied, looked at Wanda Woods and said, "Director Woods, President Hawthorne wants me to ask when The Veridian Institute of Medicine’s evaluation criteria became so relaxed, letting any riffraff in? If this is indeed the case, The Hawthorne Group will reconsider its funding of The Institute."
Wanda Woods broke into a cold sweat and hurriedly apologized.
Aidan Lynch said coldly, "Director Woods, apologies aren’t just expressed verbally."
Wanda Woods understood and turned to Chloe Jarvis, "You’re fired; pack your things and leave The Veridian Institute immediately."
Chloe Jarvis felt as if something exploded in her head; she couldn’t believe it, "No, this isn’t real!"
She refused to believe this was true.
She had a background, connections, real skills; how could she be fired just because of a conflict with Raina North?
Aidan Lynch didn’t even glance at her, "Director Woods, President Hawthorne has noticed your sincerity. However, President Hawthorne wishes for The Veridian Institute to be a place of tranquility. Therefore, if it’s not too inconvenient, please ask the pharmacists involved today to seek employment elsewhere."
The others erupted at once; Aaron Warren jumped out, unable to hold back, "Why are we being kicked out of The Veridian Institute? It’s Raina North who was at fault; why penalize us?"
"Why?" A magnetic male voice suddenly came from behind, saying calmly, "Are you questioning me?"
Elias Hawthorne stood there with his arm bent, holding a black suit draped over it, dressed in a white shirt and black trousers. His posture was upright, his demeanor noble, and his unparalleled handsome appearance drove many women crazy.
Claire North’s eyes flashed with obsessive frenzy.
Sometimes, she also resented why Elias Hawthorne wasn’t like the rumors; if he were truly the crippled lunatic from the rumors, she wouldn’t be so discontented, rather happily preparing to get engaged and married to Beau Shelby.
Yet, fate had other plans; moreover, the more she saw him, the more her heart fell.
Concerning a man like Elias Hawthorne, a God’s favorite, Aaron Warren didn’t even dare to be jealous; he took a deep breath and courageously said, "President Hawthorne, isn’t this punishment too severe?"
Elias Hawthorne glanced over coldly, "Are you teaching me how to do my job?"
Aaron Warren’s heart skipped a beat, momentarily rendered speechless with fear.
