Chapter 317: Chapter 317: Raina Actually Loves Him So Much (1)
In the hospital room.
Casper North and Shea were leaning over the bedside.
Shea raised her hand to poke Baby Hawthorne’s face. In just six days, Baby’s once chubby face had thinned to skin and bones, making it less satisfying to poke.
Casper quickly slapped Shea’s hand away: "Dear ancestor, please have mercy, if you poke him until he’s broken, Mommy might skin me alive."
Shea straightened up and squinted at Casper.
Casper felt his hair standing on end from her gaze: "What? Why are you looking at me like that? I’m telling you, I’m your real brother, you absolutely can’t have any rebellious thoughts against me, not even the thought, got it?"
Shea let out two cold laughs: "I think you’re just trying to be a good boy in front of Mommy to avoid getting scolded!"
"Shea, you’re old enough to know the meaning of not saying something just because you know it," Casper leaned back onto the bed, "it’s not just about avoiding a scolding; the main thing is, I’m taking such good care of Baby Hawthorne that our stepdad might see it and give me a little reward for my hard work."
Shea was speechless.
Alright, that’s just so Casper.
"Hmm..."
A low murmur came from the bed.
Casper and Shea turned their heads in unison to see Baby Hawthorne’s eyelashes flutter for a moment, then slowly open his eyes.
Staring at the snow-white ceiling above him, Baby’s eyes looked blank.
Shea waved her hand in front of his eyes, noting his vacant gaze.
"Baby Hawthorne." Casper called, but there was no response.
Casper suddenly panicked: "Oh no, this is bad. Baby must have been poisoned silly."
Shea thought the same and consoled herself: "Don’t worry, don’t worry. When Mommy comes back, she can give Baby Hawthorne a thorough check-up and maybe some brain supplements. Maybe he’ll get better."
Shea sighed: "That’s all we can do." She crawled next to Casper, gently comforting: "Don’t worry, even if Baby stays silly for the rest of his life, I won’t abandon you."
Casper gave Baby Hawthorne a brotherly bear hug: "It’s okay, big brother’s got you covered."
"Go away..." Baby Hawthorne tried to push Casper off, but couldn’t.
He was about to suffocate from the hug!
"Let go! Let me go!" Shea unhesitatingly dragged Casper away.
Baby Hawthorne gratefully looked at Shea. In crucial moments, it was Shea who was reliable.
Shea smugly raised her chin. She was different from that fool Casper; she was the clever Shea.
She then prepared a cup of warm water, mixed Mommy’s nutrient solution into it, and fed it to Baby Hawthorne.
Watching Shea fuss over him, Baby Hawthorne felt incredibly touched. It seemed having this sister wasn’t in vain; look how good and considerate she was to him.
A real sister, she was his real sister from now on.
After drinking the water and resting for a while, Baby Hawthorne felt more energetic and asked, "What... what happened to me?"
"It’s a long story," Casper rattled on about everything that had happened during that time.
Shea nodded beside him: "It was really dangerous this time, Mommy almost couldn’t save you."
Baby Hawthorne blinked, surprised that it had been so perilous earlier.
Casper asked: "Baby, do you know who tried to harm you?"
"Claire North."
Shea’s eyes widened: "No way."
"Isn’t Claire North your biological mom? Why would she want to kill you?"
"Probably jealousy. Every time that woman sees Raina, she turns red with envy." Mentioning Claire North, Baby Hawthorne’s expression turned sour.
