Chapter 310: Black hair debut (2)

That was a set of clothes she had picked herself.

Clothes she determined were the best for a disguise. Lily and the maids had been planning something as well, but Mira knew that if she let them give her a disguise, they would create something overly flashy.

That defeated the purpose of a disguise, something normal meant to blend in with other people. So Mira had chosen to visit a clothing store herself, and pick something normal and plain.

“This way, no one will be able to tell it’s me.”

Mira quickly undressed and put on her disguise. Then she took it a step further, adding a pair of vanity glasses. She slipped them on, looked at herself in the mirror, and grinned, delighted by how perfect the look was.

“So how is it? Do you think anyone will notice it’s me?”

She turned around and asked Theresa’s opinion, full of confidence.

But Theresa awkwardly looked away, like she was trying to avoid facing reality or having to express her true impression. It took her a moment to forcefully compose herself, her cheek twitching as she tried to form a smile and reply, “No, I’m sure no one would know.”

“I know, right? I know!”

With Theresa’s support, Mira was sure she would be able to freely walk out in the open. “I’ll be seeing you then,” she said and began walking away.

Theresa watched in dismay, because in simple terms, the clothes Mira had picked were terribly out of fashion and mismatched. Obviously no one would think she was the Spirit Queen, they would all just assume she had led an unfortunate life.

“Mira! Wait!”

In the end, Theresa could not see her leave that way, so she called Mira to stop while trying to figure out a tactful way of fixing things. She did not want to hurt Mira’s feelings by calling out her poor sense of fashion, but she wanted to get her to change into a different outfit.

“Hm? What is it?”

Mira turned around, wondering why Theresa sounded so desperate, and she just forced a smile while replying.

“You know, we have a new lineup that is still being developed with the main idea being daily life. That fits perfectly with the disguise you want. So…I thought that maybe you could try it on now that you’re here? Just wait here for a moment, don’t even think of leaving!”

After Theresa explained that, and putting extra emphasis on her plea for Mira to stay, she ran out of the room.

“Hmm…I wonder what kind of outfit that is.”

Mira knew that Magical Knights was centered around the Magical Girl fashion style, so she was curious to see what they would come up with for more casual clothing. As such, she waited patiently just like Theresa had asked her to.

“I’m back, Mira!”

Some time later, Theresa returned, still rushing around like earlier. She brought with her a suitcase for clothes, which she opened and held up the contents for Mira to see.

“Ta-da! Here it is.”

It looked like a rather simple outfit. It was just a blouse decorated with a ribbon and a black skirt. Quite different from those shown off in the public event earlier.

“Ohh… You were right, this does look a lot more casual.”

There was nothing directly tying it to the Magical Girl style, simply looking like a cute and comfy regular outfit. Mira looked at it, impressed with the unexpected choice from Magical Knights.

Still, knowing that brand, she knew there had to be something more to the outfit and decided to ask Theresa about it.

“Umm…this is still an early prototype, so it’s supposed to stay secret within the company…”

With that initial warning, she spoke a little about the outfit. It was something recently suggested by the design team, based around the theme of daily clothes, but other options had gained more votes.

“The design is still being worked on to be more viable, so this is just a regular outfit stashed away. And you know…I started to think that it’d be sad if no one wore them at all, so…”

Someone had put a lot of effort into crafting that outfit, only for it to fail the next stage of production. Knowing it would end up collecting dust somewhere without ever being worn made her feel a bit guilty. Still, her main reason for bringing it was to stop Mira from stepping out in something utterly ridiculous.

That made for the perfect excuse to get Mira to wear it instead, so Theresa looked at her with pleading eyes.

“Hmm, alright. I’ll just have to wear it then!”

Mira accepted the whole story, and agreed without offering any resistance. That was partly because of the outfit, but also because she appreciated Theresa’s behavior quite a lot when compared to how the castle’s maids acted.

“Thank you, Mira!”

Seeing how happy Theresa was made Mira smile and say, “It was nothing,” before quickly changing into it.

Thanks to Theresa’s excellent skills, the outfit she brought was the perfect size for Mira and there was no need to adjust anything. And so, Mira went from clothes randomly cobbled together, into a plain yet cute outfit.

The secret behind those clothes she had refused to elaborate on was something that would only manifest once they were complete.

Namely, the ability to transform into Magical Girl style clothes. In short, they would have a built-in gimmick to perform a transformation scene.
