Wei Yumeng rubbed her temples and frowned. "I think I'm a little dizzy. If you're done applying the medicine, I'd like to rest."
Zhan Mohan held her and curved his lips upward.
"Shy?"
"I really am a bit dizzy." She had felt it earlier but hadn't paid much attention. Now that she had taken off her clothes, she felt even dizzier.
Zhan Mohan thought she was making an excuse to avoid him but didn't force her.
"Then you should rest."
"Thank you for today." Wei Yumeng was still afraid he would be unhappy, so she thanked him again.
Zhan Mohan tidied up and stood up, taking the medical kit out. Mu Linjing was bringing in the groceries. She looked up and saw Zhan Mohan's frosty expression. She really didn't want to talk to him, but she was afraid he would get even angrier, so she braced herself and greeted him.
"Mr. Zhan, have you finished applying the medicine to Yumeng?"
"Yes, she's resting."
"Then... then you can sit on the sofa and rest for a while. I'll start cooking."
"Make her some porridge."
"Okay." Mu Linjing nodded and hurried into the kitchen with the groceries, then quickly closed the door and patted her chest. Mr. Zhan was too terrifying. His gaze was almost like he could eat people. She wondered what Yumeng had said to him.
She hadn't been this dramatic when she returned. Why was it so cold now?
She took the groceries out of the bag. The doorbell rang. Mu Linjing had to put down what she was doing and go to open the door.
Who could it be at this time?
Before Mu Linjing could even walk over, Zhan Mohan had already opened the door. Seeing who it was, he frowned deeply and spoke in an unfriendly tone.
"Why are you here?"
Chu Zi'an also hadn't expected Zhan Mohan to be there. He held the things he had bought for Wei Yumeng and said sarcastically.
"Oh, Mr. Zhan is here too. What a coincidence."
"It's not a coincidence. It's normal for me to be here, but for you to be here is not normal."
Zhan Mohan stood at the doorway, his tall figure blocking the way, with no intention of letting Chu Zi'an in.
Mu Linjing watched the scene from not far away and felt a little awkward. They clearly didn't like each other and were like needles in a haystack from the moment they met. Should she go and call Wei Yumeng to come out and see?
But then she remembered how many wounds Wei Yumeng had and that she must be tired and want to rest. It didn't seem appropriate to disturb her now.
She could only grit her teeth and go up to greet Chu Zi'an awkwardly.
"Thank you for coming to see Yumeng. She's resting now. Why don't you come in and sit for a while?"
Since he had come, he was a guest. There was no reason to chase a guest out the door.
But after she said this, she clearly felt a chilling aura surround her, and her back felt cold. She shivered and looked at Zhan Mohan. A displeased expression appeared on the handsome man's face.
"Can you casually let a man enter a place where you girls live?"
Chu Zi'an sneered, "Mr. Zhan, you are also a man."
"My wife lives inside," the man said righteously.
"Heh... that's even stranger. Doesn't your wife live in your magnificent Zhan family? When did she stoop to living with others? It seems Mr. Zhan doesn't treat his wife very well."
Chu Zi'an argued with Zhan Mohan without holding back, not treating him like his boss at all.
Zhan Mohan clenched his fists tightly, his lips taut, and his sharp eyes shot towards Chu Zi'an like blades.
"Chu Zi'an, I'll give you a warning. You'd best draw a clear line between yourself and Wei Yumeng, and not tarnish her reputation."
Chu Zi'an was not to be outdone and retorted sarcastically, "Mr. Zhan, between us, who is actually tarnishing her reputation? Everyone in the outside world knows that you and Yumeng are divorced, yet you are still entangled with her."
Zhan Mohan narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint flashing within them.
"That was just to protect her from the gossip, we didn't actually divorce. I hope you won't instigate trouble between us as a couple."
"If you truly cared about her, she wouldn't have been in that state today because of Deng Xianyi."
After he had called Wei Yumeng, he had immediately inquired about her from people in her department, wanting to go find her. Who knew he would run into Zhan Mohan rushing out at the door. He thought he wouldn't need to go.
But he hadn't expected Zhan Mohan to be a step too late.
"That has nothing to do with you. She's my person, and I'll take care of her myself. Deng Xianyi won't get away with it either."
His words were always as good as his deeds. Chu Zi'an didn't doubt that, but he didn't want Wei Yumeng to be with Zhan Mohan. He felt Zhan Mohan was not worthy of being with Yumeng.
Mu Linjing, watching the two argue intensely, tried to mediate.
"Mr. Zhan, please calm down. Actually, today we have to thank Chu Zi'an. He was the one who called and reminded Yumeng, we just didn't get to finish listening."
Saying that, Mu Linjing walked up and pulled Chu Zi'an in.
This wasn't their Zhan family's residence, and Zhan Mohan had no reason to prevent Chu Zi'an from entering.
Chu Zi'an wanted to go in and see Wei Yumeng, but Mu Linjing refused.
"She's resting now, let's not disturb her. Mr. Zhan has already applied medicine for her. Fortunately, they are just superficial wounds, so it should be fine."
"We still need to find time for a check-up, after all..."
Chu Zi'an didn't finish his sentence because Zhan Mohan was present, but he believed Mu Linjing understood.
Mu Linjing nodded, "I know. We'll go for a check-up later. Why don't you sit for a while? I'll start cooking."
"I'll come in and help you." Chu Zi'an glanced at Zhan Mohan, "Anyway, I don't want to be in the same place as a certain person."
Zhan Mohan sat on the sofa, his long legs crossed, leaning back against the sofa, exuding a natural regal aura.
"That's exactly what I intend."
Mu Linjing was also afraid they would argue if they stayed together, so she said to Chu Zi'an.
"Then come into the kitchen and help me."
Zhan Mohan sat on the sofa for more than ten minutes, then got up to check on Wei Yumeng. He found her face was flushed and she seemed to be murmuring.
He walked over and gently shook her body. "Yumeng, Yumeng..."
"Zhan Mohan, Zhan Mohan, you have to believe me..."
The man then realized something was wrong. He reached out and touched her forehead. His palm felt a wave of intense heat.
She had a fever.
He bent down to pick her up. "You have a fever, I'm taking you to the hospital."
"No." Wei Yumeng seemed to still have some consciousness. She tightly clutched the man's sleeve. "I don't want to go to the hospital, don't send me to the hospital."
"You're burning up badly. We have to go to the hospital."
"I really won't go, please, don't take me to the hospital..."
Zhan Mohan looked at her flushed face and the cold sweat on her forehead. He couldn't bear it.
He gently placed her back on the bed, patted her hand, and coaxed her.
"Okay, I won't take you to the hospital. Sleep peacefully."
Wei Yumeng only stopped feeling herself being moved and fell into a deep sleep again. She felt so tired, her head was so heavy.
Zhan Mohan called Jing Yan, asking him to come over immediately.
When Jing Yan heard that Wei Yumeng had a fever, he told Zhan Mohan.
"First, use a cold towel on her forehead to help reduce her fever. I'll be there soon."
