Mu Lin Jing didn't quite understand what Wei Yu Meng was talking about, and her expression was just as bewildered. "Isn't it just... Young Master Zhan isn't at the company, and he hasn't come over."
Wei Yu Meng looked utterly confused. Why would Zhan Mo Han lie to her? He had said goodbye perfectly fine when he left, saying he had company matters to attend to and might be busy for several days, asking her to stay home obediently. Yet, until now, he had been deceiving her from beginning to end.
The impact of this realization left her unable to recover. It felt as if a heavy stone was stuck in her chest, neither rising nor falling, and a sense of loss washed over her, almost suffocating her.
Seeing her pale face and intense reaction, Mu Lin Jing couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong, Yu Meng? Did Young Master Zhan say something to you?"
He had done more than just say something; he had completely deceived her. But she didn't have time to explain to Mu Lin Jing now. All she wanted was to get to the bottom of it quickly.
She called Zhan Mo Han, but he didn't pick up for a long time. On the second call, he answered, and she immediately blurted out, "Where have you been?"
"Wei Yu Meng, do you need something from A Han?"
What was "heartbreaking"? Wei Yu Meng understood it perfectly at that moment. So, he hadn't been busy at the company at all. He had been with Jiang Si Yu for the past two days. What could she say? What could she possibly say? She hung up the phone.
Mu Lin Jing, noticing her face turning almost ashen, asked, "Who answered the phone? Why did I hear a woman's voice?"
"Jiang Si Yu."
When Wei Yu Meng spoke the name, there was a hint of gritted teeth in her voice.
Mu Lin Jing was taken aback. "This... How could Jiang Si Yu be with Young Master Zhan? Are they perhaps busy with work?"
"Busy with what work? Busy falling in love, more like." Her mood was utterly terrible, first deceived, then concrete proof.
Mu Lin Jing wasn't sure what had happened, but she knew she had to calm Wei Yu Meng down first. She took Wei Yu Meng's hand and said, "Yu Meng, don't overthink it. Maybe they're just working. Besides, if Young Master Zhan truly wanted to change his feelings for you, would he have allowed you to have his child?"
Wei Yu Meng was trying her best to shrink into herself, telling herself she was overthinking it. But where had Zhan Mo Han been these past few days? Why was Jiang Si Yu with him now? How could she explain this series of questions? Her emotions were getting the better of her, and she pulled away from Mu Lin Jing's hand.
"Lin Jing, I want to be alone for a while. I'm going back." With that, she turned to leave. Mu Lin Jing was still worried. She was pregnant, and her emotions were so unstable. What if something happened on the way?
"Yu Meng, I'll take you back." But Wei Yu Meng didn't want anyone to disturb her. She just wanted to go back and be alone.
"It's fine, Lin Jing. I'm not a child; I can go back by myself."
"No, I have to go back with you. Let's go." Saying this, Mu Lin Jing, without further ado, grabbed Wei Yu Meng and headed towards the roadside to hail a taxi.
Meanwhile, at the hotel, Zhan Mo Han hadn't slept for days. He had finally managed to get some sleep, and his phone was naturally not on him, carelessly tossed on the table. Jiang Si Yu put the phone back for Zhan Mo Han, but the smile on her face grew increasingly distorted. Wei Yu Meng's mother had died, and he hadn't told her. Instead, he was busy arranging someone else's funeral. Given his personality, he wasn't the type to meddle in others' affairs. This could only mean that Wei Yu Meng's importance in his heart was growing.
However, it seemed Wei Yu Meng's mother hadn't died naturally. When she came over earlier, she had overheard Fang Xun on the phone inquiring about something. As she pondered this, Zhan Mo Han gradually woke up. He saw Jiang Si Yu not far away and frowned.
"Why are you here?"
Jiang Si Yu looked at Zhan Mo Han with a helpless expression. "If I didn't come, were you planning to risk your life for Wei Yu Meng?"
Zhan Mo Han's face instantly darkened, and he sat up from the bed. "Who told you that?" He shouldn't have revealed this information to anyone. Fang Xun wouldn't have said anything either. So, how did Jiang Si Yu find out?
Jiang Si Yu didn't hide it and calmly told him, "There's someone at the hospital who's quite familiar with me. I heard it from her." Zhan Mo Han believed this part, as Jiang Si Yu couldn't have known through other channels. He had handled Gu Shu Yi's funeral simply and discreetly, precisely to prevent the news from accidentally reaching Wei Yu Meng's ears. Little did he know Jiang Si Yu would still find out.
Zhan Mo Han emphasized to Jiang Si Yu repeatedly, "You'd better not tell anyone about this, or we can't even be friends anymore."
Jiang Si Yu felt as if a knife had been plunged into her heart, almost suffocating her with pain. "What do you mean? A Han, we've known each other for so many years. Now, for Wei Yu Meng, you're threatening me with this!"
"It's not a threat; it's a warning!"
"Is it? I see you'll do anything for Wei Yu Meng now, and you don't hesitate to hurt me for her." Jiang Si Yu looked wronged, a bitter smile curving her lips. Other than herself, perhaps no one knew how deeply her heart ached at that moment.
Zhan Mo Han stood up, straightened his collar, his eyes sharp. "Think whatever you want. Since you've chosen to know, you must keep it a secret. She's pregnant now; if anything happens, you'll have to deal with the consequences." His warning was already quite clear, and Jiang Si Yu didn't need to ask further. Even if she did, it would only be humiliating herself.
Jiang Si Yu took a deep breath and forced down the grievance in her heart. She knew that she couldn't be forceful with Zhan Mo Han; he wouldn't respond to that. It couldn't be helped; she loved this man, and the fact that she couldn't have him only increased her desire to conquer him.
"I understand. Don't worry, I won't say anything." Zhan Mo Han's tightly furrowed brow finally relaxed a little.
"Then I'll be leaving."
"Wait a moment, A Han. How long do you plan to keep this a secret? Wei Yu Meng will find out eventually." The man's hand rested on the doorknob, his voice indifferent and distant.
"This has nothing to do with you." Then, all that remained was the sound of the door closing. Jiang Si Yu's heart sank to the bottom. So, what did he mean now? Had she become irrelevant to him?
Zhan Mo Han left the hotel and checked the time. It had been three days. If he didn't go back soon, Wei Yu Meng would likely be overthinking things. He first called Fang Xun.
"Fang Xun, leave the matter of Gu Shu Yi to you from now on. Also, make sure the people at the hospital keep their mouths shut. I don't care if they have acquaintances or relatives; if any of them leak the information, this hospital doesn't need to operate anymore." Fang Xun didn't know exactly what had happened, but he could probably guess that someone at the hospital had leaked the information. No wonder Young Master Zhan was so furious.
"Understood."
"I'm going back now. Call me if anything comes up." His voice sounded exhausted.
After hanging up, he drove directly back to the apartment. As soon as he opened the door, he saw Wei Yu Meng sitting on the sofa. The atmosphere in the living room seemed a little off.
