The group returned to the Zhan family residence, only to find that Old Master Zhan had another surprise for everyone.
He had arranged for Cen Yuan to prepare a nursery for the house the day Wei Yumeng was confirmed to be discharged from the hospital. It was only completed yesterday.
"Since everyone is here, let's all go up and take a look."
Old Master Zhan led the way, bringing them to the room adjacent to Zhan Mohan's. "This is the nursery. I've had these two bedrooms converted into one, with a screen in the middle for your convenience in taking care of the child at night."
Wei Yumeng was both surprised and delighted. The design was precisely what she had hoped for.
"Thank you, Grandpa. I love it."
Old Master Zhan smiled upon hearing this. "This design was inspired by the layout of your apartment. You'll stay here while you recover. If you wish to return to your own place after your confinement, you may do so."
Since his illness, Old Master Zhan had become much more open-minded. He realized that with his advanced age and the arrival of his great-grandchild, it was time to relinquish some of his authority.
Zhan Mohan was already a father, and he believed that Zhan Mohan would manage both his work and personal life with good judgment.
Everyone was busy with the two babies in the nursery, except for Wen Yulan, who couldn't seem to find any joy.
Especially seeing Mu Linjing and Zhan Yichen acting so intimately made her deeply uncomfortable. No matter what, she could never accept such an ordinary daughter-in-law.
After lunch, everyone went about their own business, leaving only Wei Yumeng and Zhan Mohan in the room.
Wei Yumeng now had a habit of napping. She felt drowsy after lunch. Zhan Mohan hadn't been to the company for several days, and his workload was immense. He worked in the bedroom, staying with her and the children.
During the afternoon rest, the Zhan family was quiet, except for an annoying doorbell that broke the peace.
By the time Zhan Mohan went downstairs, the maid had already answered the door and returned with a package.
"Young Master, it's a delivery, but there's no one by this name at our house. Could it be a mistake?"
Zhan Mohan took the package and looked at the recipient: "Zhan Jin." The Zhan family indeed had no one by that name, but the address was unmistakably the Zhan family's.
He waved the maid away and opened the package.
Inside was a DNA test report, stating that he and the child were not biologically related.
Although his initial reaction to the report was one of surprise, he recalled the events of the past few days and surmised where the sample for the test might have come from.
Hah, how could he possibly have a father-son relationship with that swapped child?
It was clear that the person who ordered this report was someone within the Zhan family, intending to disrupt their relationship.
A few days ago, Zheng Yuanyuan had inexplicably caused a scene at the hospital, and he had found it perplexing. After all, how could a woman like her engage in such foolish behavior repeatedly?
Now, seeing this document, he understood everything. That outburst was merely to sow a seed of doubt in his mind.
Looking at the two pages, he smirked sarcastically. A petty trick.
Just as he was about to tear up the report and leave, Wei Yumeng, woken by the commotion downstairs, appeared groggily on the stairs. "Mohan, what are you looking at?"
He turned around sharply, instinctively hiding the DNA report behind his back. "Nothing. Why are you awake?"
As he spoke, he walked upstairs, folding the report and putting it in his pocket. Seeing Wei Yumeng's sleepy eyes, he knew she wasn't fully awake.
So, he persuaded her to go back to bed.
While Wei Yumeng was asleep, he first hid the report under the carpet in the room before going to find Old Master Zhan.
This document could not be seen by Old Master Zhan, or it would likely cause another uproar.
At that moment, Old Master Zhan was writing in his study. Seeing his grandson enter with an angry expression, he knew something had happened.
"What is it? Who was at the door just now?"
He placed the empty delivery envelope on the table. "There's someone in the Zhan family who isn't behaving, trying to sow discord between us. Yumeng's child is mine, and you've confirmed it. This matter should end here."
Although the envelope was empty, hearing his words, Old Master Zhan could guess what it contained.
Within the Zhan family, Wen Yulan was the most likely suspect. Old Master Zhan discarded the envelope, stating his position, "I will speak with her about this. You take care of your own family. It's best if she doesn't find out about this."
It was best that Old Master Zhan was willing to speak with Wen Yulan. Zhan Mohan realized that no matter how he threatened someone like Wen Yulan, she would never stop.
With Old Master Zhan's authority, she would at least consider Zhan Yichen's position within the Zhan family and refrain from acting rashly.
While they were discussing keeping this from Wei Yumeng, they were unaware that the person in question was right outside the door, having heard their entire conversation.
Wei Yumeng was quite sensitive now. Seeing Zhan Mohan hide something behind his back, she knew the item must be problematic.
So, she feigned sleep. After seeing Zhan Mohan place the item under the carpet, she left the room. She immediately lifted the carpet and found the DNA report.
She had thought Zhan Mohan still didn't trust her, hence the new paternity test. Therefore, she took the report downstairs and was about to push the door open when she heard Zhan Mohan's displeased voice.
It turned out that Zhan Mohan was seeking justice for her and had never doubted her.
While touched, she also felt self-reproach for how carelessly she had misunderstood someone. She had almost barged in just now.
Hearing Zhan Mohan preparing to come out, she quickly left the study door and returned to her room. Flustered, she put the DNA report back in its original place and then hurried back to bed to continue her pretense of sleep.
Because of this incident, Zhan Mohan felt guilty, believing he had caused her further distress. Thus, even after entering, he checked on her but didn't notice she was pretending to sleep.
Seeing him return to the sofa to work, Wei Yumeng secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Zhan Mohan looked at the stack of files, while also checking the progress of collaborative projects. Shortly after, Xin Ran called.
"I've just found out that another sum of money has been withdrawn from Jiang Siran's account. It's likely being invested in the project."
Although Jiang Siran's account was heavily encrypted, Zhan Mohan had found someone to crack her password and was monitoring her accounts. Every large expenditure could not escape his notice.
He curved his lips slightly. "How much disposable assets does she have left in her account?"
