Chapter 1226 Danger

Wei Yumeng felt the other person's hand tightly cover her mouth, preventing her from even turning her head to see who it was.

She couldn't help but feel nervous. She had already seen what kind of people were here.

She wriggled her body, trying to break free from the other person's grasp.

But the other person seemed startled by Wei Yumeng's reaction and reluctantly spoke.

"Shh, wait a moment longer."

The voice made Wei Yumeng pause slightly, and she felt a bit confused.

She was certain the voice was deep, magnetic, and even carried a hint of roguishness.

It didn't belong to anyone she knew, yet it somehow felt familiar.

Even the reassuring aura emanating from the person made her instinctively want to trust them.

It wasn't until the woman was taken away and the situation in front calmed down that Wei Yumeng regained her freedom.

She instinctively turned to look at the person.

The man was casually dressed, as if he wore whatever he had on.

Ripped jeans paired with a leather jacket, yet he still looked somewhat handsome.

However, he was wearing a skull-patterned mask, making it impossible to see his face.

"Are you the person Yi Chen arranged to meet me?" Wei Yumeng asked first.

The man nodded. "Yes."

Wei Yumeng breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm the one who's supposed to go in with you. What's your name?"

The man thought for a moment before replying, "My name is Kevin."

Wei Yumeng extended her hand in a friendly gesture. "I'm Wei Yumeng. In the Black Street, I'll be counting on you."

However, Kevin didn't shake her hand. Instead, he took her hand and pulled her forward.

Wei Yumeng then realized that more people were arriving.

They proceeded cautiously, Kevin pulling her along without any conversation.

Wei Yumeng followed closely, but she couldn't help but glance around.

This was her first time in a place like this.

It was already late, and the streetlights were sparse, giving the entire area a gloomy atmosphere.

On either side of the road, she saw scantily clad women soliciting customers, and even some men dressed flamboyantly.

In just ten minutes of walking, she had witnessed several fights.

If Kevin hadn't shielded her in time, she probably wouldn't have dared to pass through these areas.

Just as Wei Yumeng thought they were nearing the end of Black Street, Kevin turned and led her into an alleyway.

At the end of this alleyway was their destination.

There, stood a dilapidated factory building, which was Kevin's home here.

Upon entering, Kevin finally let go of Wei Yumeng's hand, his expression visibly relaxing.

Wei Yumeng looked at him, feeling a sense of familiarity with his eyes.

Kevin opened another door inside the building. "You'll be staying here during this time."

Wei Yumeng walked over and saw a small, partitioned room. Despite its small size, it was kept very clean and tidy.

This made Wei Yumeng glance back at her surroundings, which were truly messy.

This suggested that Kevin might have specially tidied up this space for her to live in.

Wei Yumeng's heart warmed. Although she hadn't known Kevin for long, she could feel his kindness.

"Thank you," Wei Yumeng smiled at Kevin.

Kevin, however, turned to attend to his own matters.

Wei Yumeng entered the room, put away her belongings, and began to consider her next steps.

With that thought, she opened the laptop she had brought, which contained all the clues investigated by Zhan Yichen.

However, the locations where Zhan Mohan had appeared seemed to have no connection, leaving Wei Yumeng feeling rather stumped.

Did she have to visit every place Zhan Mohan had been to find him?

But what if Zhan Mohan had only passed through those places and hadn't returned? Wouldn't that be a waste of effort?

As Wei Yumeng was feeling dejected, she didn't notice Kevin enter with food.

"Eat something."

Kevin's voice startled Wei Yumeng, and she quickly closed her laptop.

However, she immediately felt her reaction was too extreme. Since she was going to be with Kevin here, she felt she should at least trust him.

With that thought, she reopened the laptop.

"Kevin, I've only been here a short while and I'm not very familiar with these places. Can you see if you can find anything?"

As Wei Yumeng spoke, she moved the laptop closer to Kevin.

Kevin hesitated at first, but then stepped forward and handed the food to Wei Yumeng.

"You eat, I'll take a look."

Wei Yumeng nodded. Although it was just a simple sandwich, it looked delicious to her.

Kevin glanced at those locations and seemed to have reached a conclusion.

Wei Yumeng eagerly asked, "Did you find something?"

Kevin looked at Wei Yumeng and noticed a breadcrumb on the corner of her mouth, which she was unaware of.

He reached out, as if it were natural, and gently wiped it away.

Both of them froze.

Kevin then realized what he had done. "Sorry... I..."

Wei Yumeng simply looked at Kevin, feeling that he always gave her a sense of familiarity.

Even his action just now was something only someone very familiar would do so naturally.

Wei Yumeng smiled at him. "It's okay. Tell me what you found first."

Kevin coughed unnaturally and continued, "From what I know, all these places are territories of the Bd gang."

"Bd gang?" Wei Yumeng had never heard of them.

Kevin patiently explained, "Bd is the abbreviation for Black Devil, and they are the gang that controls this Black Street."

Wei Yumeng nodded, understanding it was a kind of underground syndicate.

She had heard that despite the apparent chaos of Black Street, there was a syndicate that controlled everything, which was why Black Street remained in its current state.

Since all the clues were related to that syndicate, did she just need to find a way to approach them to potentially find Zhan Mohan?

But Kevin seemed to have read her mind.

"That won't work. The situation in Black Street is more complex now than before. Besides Bd, there are two other major factions. Navigating between them will only cause more trouble. If Young Master Zhan hadn't been so headstrong, he wouldn't have encountered such a situation."

Wei Yumeng looked at Kevin again, but he seemed to realize something and stood up, preparing to leave.

"Let's rest for today. We can decide on anything tomorrow." With that, he left, not forgetting to close the door.
