Wei Yumeng narrowed her eyes as she watched Kevin's retreating back.
Kevin was too suspicious, not that she thought he was dangerous.
It was just that his interactions with Wei Yumeng were too natural, not at all like someone they had just met.
Thinking this, Wei Yumeng took another bite of her sandwich.
The familiar taste immediately reminded her of something, but the feeling was distant and unclear.
Wei Yumeng tried hard but couldn't come up with anything.
"Forget it, at least I can feel he's not a bad person. I'll know some things later."
With that thought, Wei Yumeng lay down and fell asleep.
Originally, Wei Yumeng thought she wouldn't sleep well in such a dangerous place, in such an unfamiliar environment.
But to her surprise, everything went more smoothly than she had imagined. She slept soundly without any dreams.
When she walked out of the room, Kevin had already prepared food.
Seeing the scene, Wei Yumeng felt a moment of dizziness, as if she had seen such a scene not long ago.
"You're awake. This is all the food I could find, make do with it."
Wei Yumeng quickly waved her hand, "It's okay, this is enough."
As Wei Yumeng was about to eat, she noticed Kevin had no intention of eating either, just watching her.
Kevin's skull mask still covered his face.
"Aren't you eating?"
Kevin shook his head, "I already ate before you woke up."
"Oh."
As Wei Yumeng ate, she couldn't help but think that Kevin was probably deliberately not eating with her.
After all, to eat, he would have to take off his mask, and then his face would be revealed.
However, what seemed like a comfortable morning was interrupted by a commotion.
"Kevin, open the door!"
A man's voice, fierce and aggressive, sounded from outside the door, making it clear he was looking for trouble.
Kevin frowned, glanced at Wei Yumeng's room, and Wei Yumeng immediately understood. She took her food and went inside.
After Wei Yumeng hid, Kevin opened the door.
"Hey, why did it take you so long to open the door?" The newcomer was a very strong man, whose muscles alone exuded a sense of danger.
Kevin's tone, however, remained unfazed, "What do you need?"
"I heard you brought a woman back with you last night, is that true?"
"I didn't," Kevin replied calmly.
But the burly man didn't believe him easily, "You should know how dangerous our situation is now. The police are always trying to round us up, and so many people have died recently. We have to be much more careful. I advise you to hand over the person as soon as possible to avoid causing trouble for yourself."
Hiding in the room, Wei Yumeng listened to the conversation outside, her heart pounding.
If those people found her now, her fate would be even worse than Zhan Yichen's.
She could only imagine how terrifying it would be for a woman to be treated like that.
But if these people did something to Kevin to force him to hand her over, could she really be so selfish as to continue hiding?
"I don't know what you're talking about." Kevin clearly intended to keep up the pretense.
"Really?" The burly man waved his hand, and several more men entered from outside, "Since you're so sure, then let my brothers search for themselves. You shouldn't have any objections, right? Of course, if I don't find anyone, I'll leave."
Without waiting for Kevin's agreement, they began to search the house.
In fact, Kevin had anticipated this when he arranged Wei Yumeng's living space. The room where Wei Yumeng was hiding, though he knew its location well, was designed so that when the door was closed, it would blend seamlessly with the adjacent staircase. One wouldn't suspect there was a room there unless they looked closely.
Wei Yumeng, hearing the footsteps outside, was terrified. She even crawled under the bed. If they found the place, she could at least hold them off for a while.
After the men searched everywhere, they indeed didn't find the hidden room.
"Boss, we didn't find anything."
"Nothing here either."
But the burly man seemed convinced that Kevin had brought someone back and wasn't going to leave. He stroked his chin and thought.
Finally, his gaze fell on the door of the room where Wei Yumeng was.
Although the door was well hidden, there was still a subtle difference between it and the surrounding wall.
"What's that?"
Kevin frowned, "That's a storage space, not usually used."
He said this and took a few steps closer to the door, "It's full of dust there, no need to investigate."
"Is that so?" The burly man had noticed something amiss.
Kevin was so nervous about that place, so the person they were looking for was probably there.
Even hiding under the bed, Wei Yumeng could hear the voices outside and her tension grew. If Kevin couldn't hold them off, she would have to deal with it herself.
But just as she was contemplating various countermeasures in her mind, the burly man's voice sounded from outside again.
"Tch, let's go!"
The voice sounded extremely unwilling, but he still led his men away.
When Wei Yumeng was certain there was no more movement outside, she emerged.
She saw Kevin putting his mask back on.
This made Wei Yumeng wonder if the situation had changed because the man had seen Kevin's face.
This seemed too coincidental.
Kevin felt her gaze from behind and turned to look at Wei Yumeng, who was regarding him with a peculiar expression.
Kevin took a few steps towards Wei Yumeng, frowned, then picked up a towel from the side, intending to wipe her.
But as he reached out, he remembered yesterday's events and said to Wei Yumeng, "Wipe yourself."
Wei Yumeng took the towel, slightly stunned, not reacting immediately.
But as she wiped her hand, she realized she had crawled under the bed, which was full of dust.
She then hurriedly cleaned herself.
Wei Yumeng's curiosity and confusion about Kevin's identity intensified. Although she had always felt that Kevin might be someone familiar to her, the events of today made her feel that Kevin's identity was anything but simple.
But Wei Yumeng couldn't think of anyone with such capabilities.
"I have to go out for a while. You stay here and don't wander around or cause trouble for me," Kevin's voice came from outside.
Wei Yumeng quickly responded, and Kevin left.
After Wei Yumeng tidied up, she came out of the bathroom and found Kevin gone.
She knew the place had just been searched, and if she ventured out now, she would cause trouble for Kevin.
So, for their safety, she decided to wait.
