"What are you doing!"
Suddenly, the dim lights of the ward blazed to life, and Catherine, like a thief in the night, was exposed under everyone's gaze.
"Catherine?"
Turning, Wei Yumeng stood at the ward door, with Zhan Mohan behind her.
Before Catherine could speak, a group of medical personnel rushed in. Even though it was only for a few seconds, Wei Anguo, whose ventilator had been removed, was once again in mortal danger.
The doctor urgently transferred Wei Anguo to the emergency room. Feng Zhenhua and Song Lijun, hearing the commotion from the adjacent ward, also rushed to the room.
Upon seeing Catherine, both of them were taken aback.
"Linlin?" Song Lijun exclaimed in surprise.
"Dad."
Seeing Feng Zhenhua and Song Lijun, Catherine ran over and hugged them tightly.
"Dad, Mom, is it really you?" she choked out.
"Linlin, it's us." Song Lijun knew she must have been frightened by the news and patted her back to comfort her.
"You have no idea how worried I was about you," Catherine said, her voice growing more distressed.
"It was our fault. Look, your dad and I are fine now. It's okay, don't cry," Song Lijun soothed her gently, like coaxing a child.
"But Linlin, why are you here?"
Glancing at the grim-faced Wei Yumeng and Zhan Mohan beside them, Feng Zhenhua asked after she had calmed down.
He and Song Lijun had not informed anyone of their whereabouts. Moreover, if she had come to find them, how could Linlin have appeared in Wei Anguo's ward?
"Miss Catherine, I believe you owe us an explanation," Zhan Mohan said coldly, his silence finally broken.
"What, what's going on?" Song Lijun anxiously looked at Wei Yumeng and Zhan Mohan.
"You two, Yumeng and I heard a commotion from the ward, and when we came in, we saw Catherine standing in the room," Zhan Mohan explained with a dark expression.
Catherine knew that the current situation could not be handled with a few casual words. She quickly squeezed out a couple of tears and looked at them aggrievedly.
"Dad, Mom," she feigned a sob, "I didn't mean to. I just... I just couldn't stand how badly Wei Anguo treated Wei Yumeng."
"I was truly possessed by a demon for a moment, thinking that this would help Wei Yumeng. Dad, Mom, you have to believe me, I really didn't mean it."
Catherine cried with tears streaming down her face, looking extremely remorseful.
"I really just wanted to help her."
Seeing her voice grow louder, Song Lijun quickly stepped forward to comfort her. "It's okay, it's okay, everything's fine."
"Mom, you believe me, right? I really didn't do it on purpose."
Catherine hugged Song Lijun, her voice trembling with sobs.
"Linlin, stop crying first. None of us blame you, but this is not the way to solve problems." Song Lijun gave Feng Zhenhua a helpless look.
Zhan Mohan was about to say something more, but Wei Yumeng stopped him.
An hour later, Wei Anguo was wheeled out of the emergency room. Fortunately, the rescue was timely, and he was no longer in mortal danger.
Looking at the man lying peacefully on the hospital bed, a murderous intent flickered in Catherine's eyes.
"Linlin?"
Song Lijun, glancing at her gaze, felt a chill run down her spine.
"Mom," Catherine snapped back to reality, quickly concealing the fierceness in her eyes and replacing it with a docile expression.
"Linlin, you should go back first."
"Mom, I'll stay here with you," Catherine said with a smile.
"Linlin, be good."
Although the incident earlier was not pursued further, they still dared not let Catherine stay in the ward any longer.
"Alright."
"Yes, your dad and I will be leaving soon too," Song Lijun said, hugging her to comfort her.
After escorting Catherine to the car, Song Lijun looked at her husband with worry. "Linlin has changed so much recently, I barely recognize her."
"I don't think this child Linlin is as simple as we thought."
No one present would have believed Catherine's explanation today. Fortunately, Wei Anguo was rescued; otherwise, even with Feng Zhenhua there, she would not have escaped responsibility.
"I think we need to get to know this child better," Song Lijun said with a frown.
She had never seen anyone with such a terrifying gaze, and this person was her own daughter, whom she had raised since childhood.
After sending Catherine away, Feng Zhenhua and Song Lijun immediately went to find Wei Yumeng.
"Mr. Zhan, Mrs. Zhan, we apologize for what happened just now," Feng Zhenhua said apologetically as soon as he entered.
"It's good that everyone is alright," Wei Yumeng said with a slight smile.
She hadn't expected Catherine to be so audacious.
"However, you two should pay more attention to Catherine. I think she's been acting a bit strange lately," Wei Yumeng advised.
"Yes, we really need to discipline this child. We are truly sorry for today," Song Lijun said, her heart aching as she looked at Wei Yumeng's troubled expression.
Due to the sudden incident, Song Lijun, who had already felt no major discomfort, quickly left the hospital with Feng Zhenhua.
Back at their residence, Song Lijun sat with a worried expression.
"Do you think Linlin might have found out the truth about what happened back then?"
Feng Zhenhua shook his head. "It doesn't look like it."
"Then why would she treat Wei Anguo like this?"
Her question left Feng Zhenhua speechless.
"By the way, call the company and ask them what Linlin has been up to recently," Song Lijun suddenly remembered and said to Feng Zhenhua.
During their absence, the company must have been in chaos.
Feng Zhenhua took out his phone and dialed the company.
"It's me," Feng Zhenhua said.
The person on the other end of the line exclaimed in shock upon hearing his voice.
"She and I are both fine, so don't worry. What has Linlin been busy with at the company lately?" Feng Zhenhua pressed.
Unsure of what was said on the other end, Feng Zhenhua's expression grew increasingly solemn, and Song Lijun's heart tightened.
"What is it? What did they say?" Song Lijun asked anxiously as soon as he hung up the phone.
Feng Zhenhua angrily slammed the phone onto the table and gritted his teeth. "They said Linlin has been busy looking for the Feng Corporation's seal lately."
They both knew very well what rushing to find the seal implied.
Upon hearing this, Song Lijun could no longer stand and staggered back onto the sofa.
"She... she found out?" Song Lijun said with a trembling voice.
"So what if she found out!" Feng Zhenhua said angrily. "We've raised her for so many years, and this is how she treats us!"
Song Lijun closed her eyes tiredly and sighed. "She's afraid we'll abandon her. What a foolish child."
Thinking back to the scene in the ward, Song Lijun's heart ached even more. How foolish could this child be to do something so terrible for power?
