Chapter 829 Everything Is Because of You

Just as Wei Yumeng reached the peak of her fear, feeling that death was imminent, a warm embrace enveloped her.

"Yumeng, I'm here. Don't be afraid."

The familiar voice and comforting scent belonged to Zhan Mohan.

Zhan Mohan had finally managed to catch up to Wei Yumeng. Seeing her terrified state caused him immense heartache.

Wei Yumeng, who had been trembling with fear, suddenly felt a sense of peace. Her emotions were too turbulent to transition smoothly, so she simply clung to Zhan Mohan and sobbed uncontrollably.

Zhan Mohan gently stroked her, trying to convey through his touch that he would always be by her side.

Ultimately, Wei Yumeng was taken back to the hospital. Under Zhan Mohan's arrangements, the VIP room was redecorated to closely resemble their home in terms of size and layout.

Zhan Mohan had meticulously recreated the ambiance of their home here.

He knew Wei Yumeng disliked staying in hospitals, so he hoped this approach would help her gradually accept the environment.

Wei Yumeng, who initially didn't want to be there, saw how deeply concerned Zhan Mohan was for her. This made her reconsider her obstinacy; she didn't want to see him so distressed because of her.

The purpose of being together was to share burdens, not to add to each other's stress.

Zhan Mohan and Mu Linjing spent the entire day at the hospital, accompanying Wei Yumeng.

However, Wei Yumeng's condition was not stable. Her state fluctuated; at times she was incredibly rational and understanding, but at other moments, she would hysterically insist that her experiences were not hallucinations.

Zhan Mohan and Mu Linjing were exhausted, filled with both worry and pity.

A doctor arrived at the doorway of the ward but did not enter. Hearing the sounds from within, the corners of his lips turned up in a smile that was both sinister and dangerous.

It was not until evening that Zhan Mohan and Mu Linjing reluctantly had to leave.

"Doctor, I'm entrusting my wife to you. Please call me if there's anything you need," Zhan Mohan instructed before departing. He added, "If my wife's condition improves, I will consider a substantial investment in your hospital."

Such an offer was undeniably enticing to any hospital.

The doctor nodded excitedly, "Mr. Zhan, you can rest assured, we will do our utmost to treat Mrs. Zhan."

Although Mu Linjing had already left the ward, she kept looking back with concern. How could she possibly put her mind at ease?

Zhan Mohan did not leave the hospital immediately. Instead, he went to settle the score with the instigator of all this. Although he had let Catherine off the hook before, Wei Yumeng had not been in this state then.

But now, everything was different. Wei Yumeng's split personality was, in essence, a consequence of Catherine's foolish actions.

Catherine had been at home, diligently doing chores and chatting with Song Lijun, creating an atmosphere of domestic harmony.

Song Lijun genuinely felt that Catherine had changed, and her sustained effort for so long filled her with relief.

"Mom, let me massage your shoulders."

Song Lijun smiled and nodded.

But at that moment, the main door was violently kicked open.

Both women started slightly and looked towards the entrance. Zhan Mohan stood there, radiating an aura of cold fury, his expression clearly indicating he was there for a confrontation.

Catherine flinched, surprised that Zhan Mohan had come to her home.

She found it impossible to believe, as there was no reason for Zhan Mohan to know what had happened.

"Mr. Zhan, what brings you here at this hour?" Song Lijun asked, forcing herself to remain calm.

Zhan Mohan's icy gaze swept over Catherine. "I'm here to settle a debt."

Catherine blinked, genuinely unaware of what debt Zhan Mohan was referring to.

"Mr. Zhan, I don't know what I've done wrong. I truly don't," Catherine said, looking panicked. She clutched Song Lijun's hand, her own trembling slightly.

Song Lijun became even more flustered, unsure why Zhan Mohan was here again.

"Mr. Zhan, I hope you can explain yourself. How has our Linlin offended you this time?"

Zhan Mohan did not answer the question directly, instead shifting his focus entirely onto Catherine.

"You should ask her."

Song Lijun followed Zhan Mohan's gaze to Catherine and asked with growing urgency, "Linlin, have you done something wrong again?"

Catherine quickly shook her head. "Mom, I really haven't. I've been with you these past few days, haven't gone anywhere. How could I have caused trouble again?"

Catherine looked genuinely innocent, almost to the point of tears. "I... I truly don't know what I've done. I apologized for the previous incident, and I've really been trying to improve."

Song Lijun had witnessed Catherine's changes firsthand. Even in the face of Zhan Mohan's anger, she earnestly defended Catherine.

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding in this matter.

"Mr. Zhan, although I don't know what has happened, I can vouch for my daughter. She has been obedient and has changed a lot during this period. Most of the time, she stays home with me and hasn't done anything wrong. Therefore, I hope you will investigate everything thoroughly before coming to us."

As Song Lijun spoke, she instinctively shielded Catherine behind her.

Zhan Mohan looked at Catherine, clenching his fists. At that moment, he desperately wanted to punish Catherine directly.

However, he had to show Song Lijun some respect. He knew that if Wei Yumeng discovered that Song Lijun was her biological mother, and then found out how he treated Song Lijun, it would cause a massive uproar.

Moreover, Zhan Mohan, in his anger, could still distinguish right from wrong.

He suppressed his rage and said only one sentence to Song Lijun.

"I hope you haven't forgotten that incident."

Although Zhan Mohan did not explicitly mention it, he glanced at Catherine as he spoke. Song Lijun naturally understood what Zhan Mohan was referring to.

The words turned Song Lijun's face pale. How could she forget that Wei Yumeng was her biological daughter? But having raised Catherine for so long, she had already come to consider her as her own child.

In this situation, what could she possibly do? Whom could she favor?

Moreover, given the current circumstances, she had no idea what had transpired, and Catherine hadn't been anywhere else recently. How could she possibly judge this matter?

Zhan Mohan said nothing further. With his anger still burning, he turned and left.

He knew, of course, that while Wei Yumeng's current psychological state might have originated from that incident, Catherine was not directly responsible. However, Catherine still bore some culpability.
