Chapter 828 Why Won't You Let Her Go

Wei Yumeng felt as if a century had passed. For a while, she heard Mu Linjing's voice, and then Zhan Mohan's.

But now she was starting to doubt whether what she heard was real or not.

Right, wasn't she on vacation with Mu Linjing? Then Mu Linjing's voice should be real, and Zhan Mohan, due to work, couldn't possibly be here at this time.

So was Zhan Mohan's voice her hallucination?

Zhan Mohan watched Wei Yumeng, who was still sleeping. Even with her head on his lap, she seemed restless. She would nervously clutch his clothes and sometimes let out fearful sounds.

Zhan Mohan could only gently stroke her hair to comfort her or tightly hold her hand.

If possible, Zhan Mohan wished it was himself enduring this torment, not Wei Yumeng.

Ahead was the city's most high-end psychiatric hospital. It was said that its treatment standards, equipment, and even environment were top-notch in the country.

But even so, Zhan Mohan felt uneasy. He wouldn't have wanted to send Wei Yumeng to a psychiatric hospital for examination unless absolutely necessary.

Mu Linjing sat in the front passenger seat, sighing as she looked at them. She had never expected the usually cheerful Wei Yumeng to have such an illness. She genuinely hoped that Wei Yumeng would gradually get better after this treatment.

Zhan Mohan carried Wei Yumeng out of the car. Even the weather was gloomy, seemingly mirroring Zhan Mohan's mood.

Zhan Mohan had already booked an appointment with the hospital's best doctor, so they went directly to the treatment room.

Wei Yumeng felt the bumpy ride finally stop. She could smell the distinct scent of disinfectant, which seemed to be the antidote to her slumber. She slowly opened her eyes.

The first things she saw were Zhan Mohan, the doctor, and Mu Linjing.

"Yumeng, you're finally awake. How are you feeling now?" Mu Linjing looked at her anxiously.

Although it was with Zhan Mohan's permission and they had deliberately given Wei Yumeng some medication because they were worried she might act up upon arrival, Mu Linjing still felt a pang of guilt.

Wei Yumeng's head was still groggy, and she clearly looked dazed.

Wei Yumeng was quite cooperative with the examination, without the crying and struggling they had expected. It was unclear if it was because the medication hadn't worn off yet.

"Mr. Zhan, we have conducted a comprehensive examination of Mrs. Zhan's brain and can confirm that the current problem is not caused by any head trauma."

The doctor sighed as he spoke, "However, during our psychological assessment of Mrs. Zhan, we found that she is in the early stages of schizophrenia."

"Schizophrenia?" Zhan Mohan's eyes turned even colder. He clenched his fists, his expression worsening significantly.

Mu Linjing patted his shoulder, urging him to calm down.

"Then, Doctor, what should we do next?"

"My recommendation is for Mrs. Zhan to be admitted for observation. The hospital has the most professional environment and treatment equipment, which will be very beneficial for Mrs. Zhan's recovery."

Mu Linjing glanced at Zhan Mohan. Seeing that he had no objections, she agreed.

But precisely at this moment, Wei Yumeng, who had been quiet and cooperative, suddenly became agitated.

"No, I don't want to stay here. It's not schizophrenia, I really heard those voices!"

Wei Yumeng looked at Zhan Mohan with a pleading expression, "Mohan, please, don't make me stay here. This is a psychiatric hospital, and even healthy people would go mad here."

Wei Yumeng clung tightly to Zhan Mohan's arm. She truly did not want to stay. This was no place for a sane person.

Although she felt that she might be somewhat abnormal, she couldn't be entirely sure, as no one truly wants to admit they are sick.

Zhan Mohan looked at Wei Yumeng. He really didn't want to leave her here, but only here could Wei Yumeng receive proper treatment, and that was more important than anything.

"Yumeng, be good. Nothing is more important than your recovery. I'll come to see you every day," Zhan Mohan said, forcing himself to suppress his heartache and using the gentlest voice he could to coax Wei Yumeng.

But Wei Yumeng looked at him with disappointment in her eyes. She bit her lower lip, shaking her head in disbelief.

"So you never believed me. I really don't have a mental illness." Wei Yumeng finally couldn't hold back her tears.

She knew that in this situation, she was completely isolated. No one believed her, and no one understood her.

Wei Yumeng had never been so clearly engulfed by a sense of loneliness. It was one thing for others not to believe her, but now even Zhan Mohan was going to leave her here.

She felt a fear she had never experienced before, a fear stemming from within her own heart and from others.

Even Zhan Mohan now seemed a little strange in her eyes.

Who could she trust now, and who could she rely on?

Seeing Wei Yumeng like this, Mu Linjing felt even more distressed. She stood there, caught between two difficult positions. If she could, she wouldn't want Wei Yumeng to stay here. But, just like Zhan Mohan, she believed Wei Yumeng needed treatment now.

At that moment, there was a knock on the treatment room door: "Dr. Wang, this case file needs your attention."

"Bring it in."

The moment the door opened, Wei Yumeng seized the opportunity and ran towards the exit.

"Yumeng!" Zhan Mohan was clearly taken by surprise by Wei Yumeng's sudden action. By the time he reacted, Wei Yumeng had already run out of the treatment room.

He didn't care about anything else and rushed out after her.

Although Wei Yumeng had escaped, she had no idea where to go.

Even if she went home, Zhan Mohan would still send her to the hospital. Now she had no one to rely on.

However, even though things had reached this point, she wouldn't blame anyone else.

But as she finally managed to run out of the hospital grounds, she felt that chilling sensation of being watched again.

She froze on the spot, her feet seemingly rooted to the ground, holding her in place.

That person was back. Why wouldn't they leave her alone?

Wei Yumeng finally clutched her head and squatted down.

People passing by frequently cast sideways glances, but they didn't know whether to offer help.

Wei Yumeng, however, clearly felt that the malice was getting closer and closer. Yes, wasn't that person's goal to kill her? And now she was alone. What better opportunity could there be?

Originally, the chilling sensation was only behind her, but now it completely surrounded her.
