Chapter 810 Jealousy Distorts One's Appearance

Every action leaves a trace, no matter who is involved.

After hanging up with Zhan Mohan, Fang Xun immediately began investigating the man's identity. Using fingerprint data, they located the man's personal information.

The man's name was Kai, a local, and a doctor.

However, this information alone did not explain his relationship with Catherine. After a thorough search and comparison, Fang Xun found a breakthrough.

It turned out that this man and Catherine had been classmates.

Knowing this made it much easier to uncover their connection. Fang Xun immediately contacted several of their former classmates to inquire.

This questioning revealed why the man had refused to betray Catherine under any circumstances.

Back at the villa, Zhan Mohan sat in his study with Fang Xun standing opposite him.

Upon receiving the intelligence, Fang Xun had rushed back to the villa to inform Zhan Mohan.

"Speak," Zhan Mohan urged.

Fang Xun took a breath and began, "Mr. Zhan, the young man we apprehended is named Kai. He was Catherine's classmate and, more importantly, her most devoted fan."

"Devoted fan?" Zhan Mohan frowned.

Fang Xun quickly elaborated, "This man is extremely fond of Catherine and is also a doctor. I suspect he was the one who stabbed Madam in the hospital room."

"Why would he undertake such a risky act for Catherine?" Zhan Mohan was perplexed.

Even with his admiration for her, he found it hard to believe someone would risk imprisonment for a woman unless... she offered him extremely compelling terms.

Fang Xun's next words confirmed this suspicion. "Catherine likely had a deal with him. As far as I know, she promised to be with Kai after the deed was done."

After a moment of contemplation, Zhan Mohan said, "Alright, I understand. Release him for now. We don't want to tip them off. Let's see what other moves she makes."

Receiving the directive, Fang Xun acknowledged it and left the villa.

He first went to the factory to find the man. He also brought a hypnotist, as it was crucial for things to return to normal that the man wouldn't remember being apprehended.

After wiping the man's memory, Fang Xun left him in the alley where he had been captured.

Everything seemed to have returned to its original state. Meanwhile, Catherine remained engrossed in her plan, believing it to be flawless, unaware that Zhan Mohan had already seen through it all.

In the following days, Catherine took care of Song Lijun in the hospital. However, the more she cared for her, the deeper her resentment grew.

"Linlin, you mentioned yesterday that Yumeng has been discharged and has gone home?" As Catherine returned with water from outside the hospital, Song Lijun brought up Wei Yumeng the moment she sat down.

Seeing the worry practically overflowing from Song Lijun's face, Catherine felt an urge to lash out and tear it apart.

"Yumeng? Yes, she's been discharged. I suppose she's mostly recovered now." Catherine, who was entirely responsible for the accident, felt no remorse; in fact, she harbored a sense of regret.

She had come so close to eliminating that eyesore, Wei Yumeng.

Song Lijun frowned, still concerned about Wei Yumeng. "That child, it's truly strange. How could she be discharged so quickly after such a serious injury?"

Catherine found her words irritating but could only feign reassurance. "Mom, please don't worry. Zhan Mohan is there; he will surely take good care of Yumeng."

"Yes, you're right," Song Lijun smiled, dropping the subject.

Catherine had hoped that Song Lijun would drop the matter of Wei Yumeng. However, when she arrived at the hospital that afternoon, she found Song Lijun changing her clothes, clearly preparing to go out.

She hurried in, taking Song Lijun's arm, and said nervously, "Mom, what are you doing? The doctor said your condition hasn't improved yet."

Song Lijun patted her hand and smiled. "It's alright, I'm just stepping out for a bit. I'll be back soon. Your father is with me, so it will be fine."

"Is there something urgent that requires you to leave? If you need anything, just tell me, and I'll get it for you." Catherine was confused. She was hospitalized; what could be so urgent that she had to go out?

Song Lijun glanced at Feng Zhenhua and then, avoiding Catherine's gaze, said, "I'm a little worried about Yumeng. Your father and I were thinking of going to her house to see her."

Yumeng, again, Wei Yumeng!

Catherine's face froze instantly. She had wondered why they were leaving without considering their health. It turned out they were going to see their biological daughter.

"Linlin, your father and I..." Seeing her expression darken, Song Lijun attempted to explain.

But the next moment, Catherine embraced Song Lijun and smiled. "Dad, Mom, I'll go with you. I haven't seen Yumeng in a long time either. I'll go see how she's doing."

Song Lijun and Feng Zhenhua looked pleasantly surprised, almost disbelieving.

Seeing their stunned expressions, Catherine gently pushed them towards the door, her voice cheerful. "Alright, alright, let's go."

On the way, the elderly couple finally displayed rare smiles, but to Catherine, they were utterly blinding.

She knew these two wouldn't be so kind as to let someone unrelated by blood inherit the family fortune. Now that Wei Yumeng was injured, they were too worried to even eat.

Recalling their words to her previously, Catherine found it utterly ironic.

The hospital was only a half-hour drive from Wei Yumeng's villa. Upon hearing that they were coming to visit, Wei Yumeng was already waiting at the entrance.

The moment she saw Wei Yumeng standing at the door as they exited the car, Song Lijun became anxious and urged her inside.

"My child, you're injured, why aren't you resting in bed? You're standing here at the door." Song Lijun chided.

Wei Yumeng smiled. "Mrs. Feng, I've recovered quite a bit. There's nothing serious."

At this point, Catherine approached and called out loudly, "Yumeng, you have no idea how worried my parents are about you. The doctor explicitly forbade you from leaving your room, but as soon as they knew you weren't in the hospital, they were eager to come see you."

Hearing her sarcastic words, Wei Yumeng exchanged a glance with Zhan Mohan.

As the atmosphere threatened to become awkward, Wei Yumeng stepped forward, took Song Lijun's hand, and smiled. "Mrs. Feng, you don't need to be so worried about me. I would have helped anyone in that situation. Please take good care of your own health."

Looking at her daughter, who was so close, Song Lijun's voice caught in her throat. Wei Yumeng was so dutiful.

"Yumeng, my wife and I are deeply indebted to you. We can never repay your kindness," Feng Zhenhua said, placing a hand on his wife's shoulder as she became emotional.

"You are too kind," Wei Yumeng smiled gently.
