"Jessica, you're too kind," replied Wei Yumeng, casting a glance at the towering pile of documents. Her eyes dimmed slightly as she called her assistant to help carry them away.
Bai Qing, holding a pen, scribbled on a document, her thoughts drifting to Wei Yumeng's retreating figure. After the door closed, she leaned back with a triumphant expression. Now that she was Wei Yumeng's company secretary, it was incredibly easy to boss Wei Yumeng around.
For the next while, the landline in Wei Yumeng's office rang incessantly. As soon as she picked it up, Bai Qing's voice would emerge.
"Manager Wei, the proposal still isn't good enough. You'll have to stay late and work on it for me tonight."
"Manager Wei, this project upstairs is urgent. Please expedite communication with the other party."
"Manager Wei, please come to the secretary's office. I need your department report for this month."
Wei Yumeng's ears were practically ringing with the title "Manager Wei," especially coming from Bai Qing's mouth, it sounded particularly grating.
When Bai Qing called again, Wei Yumeng responded expressionlessly and headed upstairs to face Bai Qing. This new secretary had certainly pulled out all the stops. Wei Yumeng wouldn't have reached her current position if she couldn't handle a bit of difficulty.
"Manager Wei, that was fast?" Bai Qing looked up in surprise as a shadow fell over her. Seeing Wei Yumeng, she quickly smiled.
"Secretary Jessica, I think there are a few things you might not be fully aware of since you've just started," Wei Yumeng said, her eyes sharp and her lips slightly parted, though she maintained a polite, faint smile.
Bai Qing's heart skipped a beat. She put down her pen and looked at Wei Yumeng's serious expression, her apprehension growing. Had Wei Yumeng discovered something? Impossible, even Zhang Xinyi hadn't recognized her.
Bai Qing hummed an acknowledgment, clasped her hands on her knees, and looked leisurely at Wei Yumeng. "Manager Wei, what things are you referring to?"
"This proposal was prepared according to the company's usual conventions, aside from the style, but this has always been our company's style. Therefore, I believe there's nothing left to modify," Wei Yumeng stated, placing the proposal, which had been revised several times, in front of Bai Qing, pointedly highlighting the implicit unfairness of Bai Qing's demands.
Bai Qing was silent for a moment. She re-examined Wei Yumeng before composing herself and preparing to speak.
"And this project isn't handled by our department. It's usually under Manager Wang's department. They are already very familiar with the other company, and this company has always been negotiated by Manager Wang," Wei Yumeng interrupted Bai Qing, placing the project proposal that Bai Qing had had sent over onto the middle of the desk. Her small face was set in a stern expression.
"Then what about this month's department report?" Bai Qing interjected urgently after Wei Yumeng finished. She tapped the desk, the dull thud echoing through the entire office.
On this matter, Wei Yumeng smiled brightly and placed a calendar she had acquired from another employee on the desk. "Secretary Jessica, it's only mid-month. Without the situation for the latter half of the month, I wouldn't be able to provide this month's report even if I wanted to, would I?"
Bai Qing frowned. She looked at the calendar, feeling as though Wei Yumeng herself was mocking her for not considering the actual situation and demanding a department report without knowing the date.
"A department report every half-month is also for planning the latter half of the month," Bai Qing gritted her teeth, spreading her hands with a hint of a threat in her tone. "But are the other matters truly as you say? Perhaps I should report to the boss." She had finally found an opportunity to put Wei Yumeng in her place, how could she possibly let it go?
Wei Yumeng was unfazed by Bai Qing's words. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, casually showcasing the documents in her hand. "If Secretary Jessica needs me to, I can accompany you. After all, I feel I also need to report."
Bai Qing's face immediately fell. She knew full well that everything she had done recently was to deliberately inconvenience Wei Yumeng. If the boss found out... Absolutely not. "It's my duty, Secretary Jessica." Wei Yumeng raised her eyebrows and turned to leave.
"Manager Wei, please wait." Bai Qing called out to Wei Yumeng and pulled a document from the surrounding files, placing it before her. "Then this project is indeed under Manager Wei's department, correct?"
"Yes," Wei Yumeng looked down at the document and nodded, her expression growing a little more serious. Was this new secretary still intent on making things difficult for her?
Sensing Wei Yumeng's thoughts, Bai Qing suddenly smiled and waved her hand, signaling Wei Yumeng not to be nervous. "Then it seems I've finally guessed correctly this time. This project isn't urgent. Manager Wei, please submit the proposal to me the morning after tomorrow."

"I will submit it to you on time the morning after tomorrow." Wei Yumeng's eyes lifted slightly, a smile appearing on her delicate face. She pointed to the calendar. "I hope Secretary Jessica likes this calendar. I'll be going now."
