"Why is it just you?" Shen Yue asked.
Luo Kai's work clothes had some dust on them. He patted them down, his fingers shrinking back awkwardly. A simple smile spread across his dark, rugged face.
"No, no, it's fine. I, I can do it alone."
He was nervous, his speech stuttering badly. Usually, due to his quiet nature, he didn't talk much, so it wasn't as noticeable.
Shen Yue didn't show any change in her expression. Her hair fell behind her ear, revealing a slender, white neck. Her eyes were clean and gentle. She frowned slightly, not entirely in agreement, "But you can't do that. You're just too nice. Don't tolerate everything, or they'll take advantage of you."
The gentle and quiet woman showed a hint of anger for the first time. Her voice, as soft as a feather, seemed to possess a certain magic, touching the heartstrings.
The tall man, whose hands and feet were awkward, seemed to have his earlobes tremble. He stared at the woman before him, his ears blushing.
He was so happy that Shen Yue worried about him and even spoke so many words to him. He immediately nodded, his inner joy evident.
Seeing Luo Kai's foolishly honest demeanor, Shen Yue sighed helplessly, knowing he wouldn't take her words to heart.
It was precisely because Luo Kai was too honest that these people bullied him.
His tall, sturdy build was enough to be intimidating.
Once or twice was enough, but it was too much to be like this every time.
Shen Yue went into the back kitchen to prepare what was needed. People began to arrive for work one after another. Customers didn't start coming until nine o'clock.
The store manager arrived at ten, unhurriedly. The morning crowd wasn't large. Finding a moment of leisure, Shen Yue walked over to chat with the manager, talking about Luo Kai and recounting everything she had seen.
Upon hearing this, the manager frowned, his expression not looking good. After all, those people were being paid wages but doing nothing. They couldn't just freeload.
After discussing these matters with the manager, Shen Yue noticed that those people no longer dared to openly bully or exploit Luo Kai. She wasn't sure what happened behind her back.
Luo Kai did all the heavy work, but he also had times to rest. His strength was great, and his movements were fast. Whether it was carrying things or doing odd jobs, he was quicker than others.
Luo Kai finished the work in his area and had a brief moment of rest. He wasn't tired at all and prepared to go out to help Shen Yue. Thinking that he would see Shen Yue soon, his footsteps became even lighter.
But some people couldn't stand it.
A male waiter, unable to bear seeing Luo Kai slack off, loudly questioned, "Luo Kai! Where are you going? You haven't finished your work, and you want to be lazy again?"
His steps halted. Luo Kai slowly turned his head. He was too tall. The warehouse also had lights hanging from above, and his sturdy build almost blocked half the light. When the male waiter met those dark pupils, he was so frightened that a chill ran down his spine.
Upon realizing he was being scared by such a pushover, he became instantly enraged.
"What are you looking at? What, you don't like being told off? Are you going to run to the manager again and talk nonsense? What a scoundrel!"
The male waiter cursed, his face flushed red. In his heart, he both looked down on and detested Luo Kai.
Even though he himself wasn't much better, he just couldn't stand someone like Luo Kai, a pushover. When he was in a bad mood, he wanted to curse him out. He didn't dare to hit him, only dared to vent through words. Moreover, he had been caught by the manager a few days ago and severely reprimanded.
Luo Kai just looked at him silently. That look was indescribable, as if he were looking at an animal, not a fellow human.
The male waiter's face turned even worse. He remembered that such a person could be so close to Shen Yue. He had also expressed his affection to Shen Yue, but she was indifferent to him. Yet, she smiled so happily at Luo Kai. He felt jealous and unwilling.
He didn't think he was any worse than Luo Kai. As he spoke, his words became increasingly unpleasant, "I really admire you. Don't you know what you're like? You still fawn over Shen Yue every day, trying to eat swan meat like a toad. Don't you see if she'd even look at you? Although, speaking of which, you two are quite a match, a pushover and a..."
He couldn't finish the rest of his sentence. He felt a chill creep up his spine, causing his hair to stand on end, and his whole body trembled uncontrollably.
The tall and sturdy man's face was expressionless. His dark eyes were fixed on him, as if churning with crimson gloom. That gaze was like looking at a dead person, filled with intense malice and bloodlust, eerie and terrifying.
The man's voice was very low. For some reason at that moment, he didn't stutter.
"Say that again."
The man who was usually a pushover, taking abuse and scolding, seemed to have completely changed.
The male waiter's lips turned pale, and fine cold sweat beaded on his forehead, trickling down his temples and wetting a few strands of hair that clung to his cheeks.
His throat felt as if it were clogged with tiny blades, and he couldn't utter a single word.
Luo Kai just watched him, his dark eyes vacant and soulless.
At that moment, he felt as if death were approaching.
His pupils constricted. Just as his legs grew weak and he was about to fall to his knees, a soft, gentle voice, as clean as the morning, came through.
"Luo Kai, are you there?"
Luo Kai's body stiffened. Almost flustered, he turned around and, without regard for the other person, strode towards the direction of the voice.
He replied hurriedly,
"I, I am!"
The male waiter left behind had trembling legs and could no longer control himself, collapsing onto the ground.
He saw Shen Yue looking around at the entrance of the warehouse.
He took two steps at a time and walked over.
The man's noticeable height allowed Shen Yue to spot him immediately. She couldn't help but show a faint smile, "Luo Kai, come here!"
Luo Kai walked over without a second thought.
Shen Yue said, "The electric valve seems to be broken. I'll take you to see it."
Luo Kai was not only strong but also knew how to fix many things, like electric valves, water pipes, light bulbs, or various other odds and ends. It was said he even knew how to fix cars.
Seeing the dust on Luo Kai's black work clothes, Shen Yue casually brushed it off for him.
The electric valve had only a minor fault. Luo Kai fiddled with it inside for a moment, and it was fixed. Shen Yue held the flashlight, shining it for him.
She couldn't help but sigh softly, "You're so amazing."
Her soft, sweet voice seemed capable of melting a person's heart.
Luo Kai turned his head, looking at Shen Yue beside him, whose skin was fair. Her beautiful young face was reflected in his dark pupils. He stared, captivated, forgetting to look away for a moment.
It wasn't until Shen Yue sensed it and asked softly that he snapped back to reality, lowering his head, not daring to look again.
The electric valve was fixed. Luo Kai thought he should leave, but Shen Yue remained crouched down. He also didn't move.
